“Overall, the cottage was fine, but it really needed a deep clean.”

Surfaces were very dusty, there were cobwebs, and the floors felt gritty, which wasn’t great. The bathrooms, however, were lovely and spotless. We encountered two issues during our stay. Surfaces were very dusty, there were cobwebs, and the floors felt gritty, which wasn’t great. The bathrooms, however, were lovely and spotless. We encountered two issues during our stay. First, the glass front of the fire was loose and fell in a couple of times—extremely dangerous when hot. We reported this to the letting agent. More concerning was a leak through the master bedroom ceiling. During rainfall, we were woken by the sound of water coming in, leading to a panicked scramble to place a jug under the leak to protect our belongings. This made for a few stressful nights. Although we flagged this with the agent, the issue was already known, and we feel we should have been informed before arrival. On the positive side, the cottage is in a lovely location, with the nearby villages of Sedbergh and Hawes offering plenty to do. Unfortunately, we decided to leave a night early as rain was forecast, and we didn’t want to endure another night with the “indoor water feature.”

Thank you for your helpful feedback and we are sorry that the issues you raised detracted from the enjoyment of your stay. We have addressed the cleaning issues with our cleaner. We do a deep clean several times a year but that can be hard to do during a busy period with back to back bookings, and we apologies that you found the cottage not be sparkling throughout. We were aware of the roof leak in the bedroom and had scheduled for a builder to come in to repair this during a break between bookings. It was truly unfortunate that you had heavy rain during your stay that found its way in. The leak has now been repaired. And thank you for noting the loose glass in the door of the solid fuel stove that we were not aware of. This has alo been repaired. Property Owner
