Flaska House

Very well equipped cottage Comfortable furniture throughout A wardrobe knob fell off in the first double bedroom on your left as you walk down the corridor - no big deal.

The only real issue was the internet - And to be perfectly honest this did not detract from my stay, but we had a few in the party that wanted to watch the F1 - we started to watch the re-run on C4 in the kitchen and then the internet went down at a semi vital moment..... ;) We moved into the lounge and all was well again - I'm thinking that the lounge TV is not via the internet? By chance I was reading some reviews of Starlink internet and it appears to be very good in rural areas so maybe something you want to consider? Overall a stunning cottage that met all our expectations and several commented that it was the best that we had stayed in - so thank you.

We were a family of 6 adults and 3 children and we found flaska House to be spacious, clean, modern and had everything that we needed.

The property is set in stunning surroundings. All the bedrooms are spacious and beds are very comfy. We had a few problems with heating but the management company did everything in their means to make it comfortable while this was fixed. The only negatives we had were with sykes themselves which is no reflection on the property, the management company or the owner. We would 100% go back to flaska House or the neighbouring property which would be suitable for a smaller group. Couldn't recommend flaska House more.

Flaska House was a superbly positioned, picturebook lakes style cottage which easily accommodated our party of six adults, two toddlers and two dogs.

Comfortably furnished and well appointed, Warm with superb views and in easy reach of many North lakes attractions. The only slight drawback was sketchy Internet.

We loved our stay at Flaska house, the location, the views and the layout of the house was perfect for our family, the heating system was perfect, the internet and tv reception excellent, beds really comfortable.

So much so, we have already booked another visit. Only slight niggles, we’re that the frying pans were a bit small for 8 people, the cups were a bit tired, and the glass selection was limited, no beer glasses other than chunky glasses, no spirit glasses and it would have been nice to have 8 matching wine glasses. However these are only small issues, and we are looking forward to returning !!

Brilliant accommodation, will absolutely be staying here again.

The house was in a great position very easy to get to and from, with fabulous views especially from the end bedrooms and conservatory.

The facilities were excellent, central heating was very good for such a large house, beds were extremely comfy, and the house easily accommodated a family of 8 plus dog. We've stayed in many Lakes cottages over the years and this rates amongst one of the best.

Beautiful home and suits large family .

The location and views are spectacular. Peaceful and lovely to sit and watch the birds around. Spent lots of time in the conservatory just admiring Blencathra in the distance . Although very clean there are some areas that need a little attention just regarding wear and tear . Furniture although comfortable is dated. That said we had a wonderful stay and would recommend Flaska house.

Flaska is a stunningly spacious property with a large enclosed gdn and ample parking space.

It is set at the end of a long single track lane next to only one other (small) property so you get a feeling of splendid isolation especially given the magnificent view of Blencathra, and only Blencathra, from the back. We spent a very happy week here as an extended family of three generations and dog and it met our every need. We were blessed by the weather so spent a lot of time in the garden which was plenty big enough for the children to run around and the dog to fetch her ball but the large conservatory would have been equally nice had the weather been inclement. Level of cleanliness was good but the one downside given the hot weather was the number of flies which the owners had tried to mitigate with zapping machines. We are already thinking of going back there next year.

We had a lovely stay, the surroundings are beautiful and the house had everything we needed.

The only thing that might have helped was bigger pots for cooking for a larger party and the mattresses could do with replacing as they were not very comfortable. But overall everything was great and it was a perfect base for exploring the lakes.

It was a wonderful place to stay - everything we needed was available.

The utility room and second fridge were very useful and a secure place for bike storage was appreciated. We were fortunate to have amazing weather, so really enjoyed the sheltered garden with fantastic views and lots of birdlife. Thank you, it was a great placefor a holiday. We walked every day on the fells, but it is within easy reach of both Penrith and Keswick too.

Flaska house was absolutely fabulous.

We were lucky with a week of dry sunny weather, so spent a lot of time in the garden, admiring the breathtaking view.....but all agreed that the house would work fantastically if the weather was cold and wet. It had everything we needed, and felt luxurious.

We had such a great time at Flaska House, great for cooking, sitting and playing games together.

Super spacious, well equipped and you can't not mention the outstanding views. It's a perfect location. Would 100% recommend X

We stayed at Flaska House for Christmas.

It was a perfect place to stay - the House had everything we needed and plenty of room for all of us (5 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs!). We particularly enjoyed morning coffee in the sun room, which was cosy and had fantastic views of Blencathra. Christmas dinner around the table in the spacious kitchen / dining area was magical - a very sociable space. (Thank you also for the Christmas decorations). The House is well positioned for visiting the area - we enjoyed a visit to Patterdale (10 mins way and a beautiful drive with amazing views), we were only 15/20 mins from Penrith (great for supplies) and Keswick (went to the independent cinema which was great and also recommend a walk around the town which has some lovely independent shops). We were lucky with the weather which was very mild and mainly dry, We would highly recommend a stay at Flaska House.

We stayed in Flaska house over New Year, the views are spectacular, location is great, plenty to do nearby.

The house is well equipped, very cozy and great for a larger family or 2 families. The kitchen area was ideal for playing games and spending time together. The bedrooms spacious and the views from there also amazing. The only feedback I would give is to have a tumble dryer as the weather was very wet and cold and would have been ideal to dry our clothes after being out. We had a fantastic break and would highly recommend Flaska house.

Flaska house is lovely, in the most beautiful setting, and has the most spectacular views.

The kitchen diner has been fabulously done and is a real hub, and the sun room perfect for watching the red squirrels! The house on the whole was well kept, clean, and the kitchen well stocked. As others have said, the beds really do need attention, they're very springy and loud - good nights sleep is what you need after a day out on the fells but unfortunately wasn't what we got. We reported the bathroom sink hardly drained, and the radiator in the blue gable end room wasn't working; LL said they would send someone out, but nobody came. The gutters are extremely blocked with leaves, which I guess is leading to the leaks previous guests have reported, though we didn't experience any while we were there. If the beds get sorted we will definitely be back.

Cushions were stored in a box that was cracked it had rained the week before so we’re very wet informed the office

The property was amazing and exactly what we were looking for as a family of 8 and a dog.

It was spacious and had beautiful surrounding views just as shown in the pictures. The kitchen dining area was our favourite as we could all be together in the large and comfortable space. Just a couple things to note, on arrival there was a slight mix up with the cleaning of the property, but this was quickly sorted. We managed to find another tea towel, but only one was provided, a second definitely is needed. The beds were very soft and could do with being replaced as they have moulded to sag where people sleep. However, none of this spoilt our time at Flaska House and we would definitely recommend.

We had a fabulous stay.

Everything was perfect. Beautiful setting, beautiful cottage. Fabulous facilities from the garden to the kitchen, bedrooms and even games and books too. We will definitely be looking to come back again soon.

Flaska House is a wonderful place to stay.

The location is good with staggering views of Blencathra and Sharp Edge. I liked to sit in the conservatory watching the resident birds with the view as backdrop! The kitchen is big and well equipped. Only one tea towel is provided though so take some! Bedrooms and bathrooms were very comfortable. We did have a major problem on arrival which was not fixed until after a sleepless first night, but the house was so lovely it was soon forgotten.

Lovely cottage and perfect location - really good social space inside and out for friends and family.

Fantastic views and peaceful for a chilled out break. Very well equipped kitchen and great showers. WiFi signal not great for connecting to streaming services but manageable on phones for comms (to be expected in such a rural area). Wild swim at Bassenthwaite highly recommended (20mins drive). Great Sunday lunch at the Queens Head, Troutbeck and huge portions at The White Horse (10mins drive from cottage) Would recommend providing additional drying clothes for dishes (only 1 provided). Strong smell in downstairs hallway (damp?) but didn’t affect us in the rest of the house.

A great house for a big group with an incredible view.

May be helpful to have a Visitors Book for comment in the property - we had torrential rain for a few days during which the lobby flooded and led to a very wet carpet (and lots of very wet towels) which we reported but remained concerned that it wasn’t taken very seriously (possibly not a new issue which a visitors book may have revealed?). A tumble dryer and or a washing line would be useful to take advantage of the washing machine provided. Also there were a number of routine maintenance issues which we felt were not new - we reported them by phone and left a note listing them when we left. There is a good feeling in the area that consideration has been taken for the environment and conservation and on that note have you considered putting stickers on the conservatory windows to deter birds from flying into them? - I appreciate it doesn’t look so good but we experienced 2 distressing bird deaths on the couple of sunny days we had.

Perfect house for a large group with three generations.

The conservatory with sofa and chairs was our main living area as the views are outstanding.The garden could do with a good tidy up and grass cut but it was enclosed which was a bonus for our dog. Garden furniture was great and fire pit perfect for toasting marshmallows! A really lovely place for a great family holiday .

We’ve just spent a week in the lakes at Flaska house, Wow!

!..what a stunning property with the most incredible views I think I’ve ever seen From a holiday property. The house was very spacious and clean and Was very well equipped with everything you needed really even a good utility room . It was great for the dog with a beautiful enclosed garden. We even had a fire pit and sat and toasted marshmallows. We would definitely go back again. If I had to say how it could be improved it would just be that we all found the beds very soft which made them very difficult to get out of. Also shortly after we arrived one of the smoke detectors started bleeping every minute as the battery was low which would’ve kept us awake had we not Changed the batteries and Then One of the other detectors started to beep so we had to change those too but nothing major. We also had a fab meal at a local pub ( the mill inn Mungrisdale). Would definitely go back.

The views are stunning where ever you are in this property.

It has been decorated to a high standard, loved the art work. Layout of the house is great. Negative points were the neighbour just walking into the garden without knocking at first to check if we were in, the garden could of been maintained better. We had a day of heavy rain which caused a couple of leaks in the sun room. I would also say it would be difficult to fit 4 cars as you share the drive with the cottage next door. Despite these points we would love to stay at the house again in the future.

Perfect property for 4 adult couples.

Spacious and well equipped. So much so that we hardly used the lounge. Fabulous views of Blencathra to enjoy from the conservatory. Lake lovers were great in unblocking the main sewage drain on the same day we reported it. Woukd happily return

We had a lovely break to Flaska House as a family of six and two dogs!

The house was cosy and comfortable. It had lots of living spaces so that we didn’t feel on top of one another. The conservatory room has the most incredible views over Blencathra. It’s a perfect location for exploring the Lake District with Keswick being just a short car journey away. Also two wonderful pubs just a short drive away. We wouldn’t hesitate to return!

The house is lovely - very comfortable and well equipped, and we really enjoyed our stay there.

There are a few things which could be improved: - the freezer didn't work very well - the lock on the front door is quite stiff and a couple of times we struggled to get in - information about the house was not great - I specifically asked about where to buy wood for the house, and it would have been very helpful to know that logs/kindling were available at Base Camp nearby rather than being advised to buy in Ambleside. I asked about ramekins and was advised that there weren't any - only to find that there were ramekins in the house - there weren't any extra bin bags It's a lovely house and these are small niggles, which didn't affect our holiday, but I wanted to point them out as things which could easily be improved.

Beautiful property, spacious and the kitchen is just stunning.

The glass on the fire door was broken by thr previous guests and nit mentioned so we weren't able to use the fire but it was warm enough with just the heating. Peter did try his best to have this fixed while we were there. We left a few days earlier than intended but this was only due to the weather as it was flooding in places and we had done all the walks possible so all good.

Absolutely loved the house and the location too, had a wonderful time here with family and dogs The living room/snug was great but most of the time we were in the kitchen around the table, in the conservatory or outside, it was very relaxing but with loads of activities on the doorstep We were blessed with the weather, the road to the house *might* be tricky in snow and ice so bare that in mind if you’re booking in for Christmas but this is the Lakes !

We had a lovely stay at Flaska house, it's huge and very comfortable.

Easy to find, easy drive there (no windy mountain roads!) and parking easy too. The view from the garden / back room is stunning. Would definitely stay again.

Firstly a beautifully positioned and equipped cottage - the best we have stayed in.

Love the solid roof on the conservatory. It would be helpful to provide milk and tea on arrival or say on the booking form that you don't. The front steps are a bit uneven if you are unsteady on your feet. The glass plate in the microwave had been broken by the cleaner (note left on microwave) making the microwave fairly unusable. Not a problem for us but might be for some. The wifi is slow (c.3mbps download, 0.3 mbps upload). It failed completely once during the week . A family member that was going to stay with us could not as the wifi was too slow to support the work they needed to do.

We had a lovely stay in Flaska House this Easter.

The weather wasn't exactly with us, but it was an excellent base for hikes around Blencathra, Ullswater and Helvellyn. The house is well set up - we all particularly enjoyed sitting in the sunroom looking at the view!

Flaska House is a beautiful house with great facilities and lovely layout & setting and accommodated us very well.

The rooms are a lovely size and the conservatory is lovely to sit in in the morning to enjoy the spectacular views of Blencathra! The bedrooms are a good size and the main bedroom is lovely with plenty of wardrobe space and en-suite. Our only complaint was that it looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned very well as in one of the bathrooms ( downstairs) the toilet hadn’t been flushed & cleaned and someone had used it to go to the toilet properly and there were dirty splash marks under the toilet rim! The wash bowl was dirty with toothpaste all around the bowl & even in the en-suite where the bin hadn’t been emptied. When we removed the sheets as we were leaving the mattress protector had stains on & was very tired looking & some of them needed replacing. We would return again if these things were sorted & it would be nice if there were waste paper bins in each room as the only ones in the bathrooms weren’t big enough! Apart from these things we loved the property & area.

We stayed at Flaska house for the Christmas period.

We was blown away from pulling up to the gate and seeing the Xmas trees lit up in the windows to opening the front door. The house is within a beautiful setting with stunning views of the open fields and Blencathra. Some parts of the house have been recently renovated including the kitchen and the garden room which were done to a high standard (It is even nicer the the pictures previously shown). We absolutely loved waking up in the morning having a cuppa looking out to the sheep and mountains and loved the large space in the kitchen for entertaining at night. The living room was so cosy, watching Xmas films in front of the log fire and opening presents on Xmas day morning. The bedrooms are all spacious and nicely decorated- love the beams! We loved taking the dogs for a walk down the country Lane and seeing the horses and the sheep. We had one day of light snow which made the views even more stunning. Everything you need is supplied from cutlery, utensils, towels, blankets, iron, hairdryers etc. We loved the welcome card and Prosecco on arrival too, such a lovely personal gesture. We honestly had the most amazing time at Flaska and my only grumble is that it is already booked for Christmas next year because we would have loved to have visited again. The owners have made a real gem! TIPS * Aldi/ Iceland/ Morrisons/ B&M are a 15minute drive away in Penrith. *Aira Force waterfall is definitely worth a visit, only 15 minute drive away. *Giannis in Penrith is a great Italian restaurant if you’re looking to eat out but book in advance as it does get busy. *Dont forget wood for the fire.

The cottage was stunning and the perfect setting for our girls weekend away.

It had everything we needed and more! Highlights include the fantastic open plan kitchen where we enjoyed our cheese and wine evening, the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the easy to use log burner making the evenings extra cosy! The cottage was also in a great location within easy reach of Keswick, and we enjoyed walks around Lowther castle, Aria force and Pooley bridge and along the Threlkeld to Keswick railway track. We were also lucky enough to spot the resident red squirrel foraging around the adjoining woodlands.

Flaska House is a lovely, comfortable home with tremendous views .

We loved our stay. Our only complaint - and this may seem minor in the big scheme of things - is that the bed pillows are in serious need of replacement: very thin and very lumpy! Completely worn out. Please add better pillows to the bedroom beds! It was disappointing especially when the beds themselves were very comfortable and the rest of the house was so luxurious ! Next time I would bring my own pillows. Other than that one oversight, the owners have done a terrific job and we would definitely stay again!

Thank you for providing an excellent cottage for our holidays.

There were only two things that could have made our stay better. The WiFi buffered during the few times we watched Netflix and the foul smell from the septic tank marred the experience of sitting outside to enjoy the sun and the fire pit. Otherwise our stay was wonderful. Many thanks.

The house was beautiful along with the setting.

Had everything we needed. Good range of furniture etc. just a little disappointed with the cleanliness of the kitchen in particular. Appreciated the Prosecco. Good range of local trips etc. we left a few more of things we did. Would love to return and perfect with the dogs.

Lovely property set in a picturesque location with the mountain views surrounding you.

House was spacious and clean and had plenty of room. I would say the house is shabby chic rather than luxury but a nice space to relax in. We didn’t have the best weather but I can see how lovely it would be in the spring time. The location is pretty remote, no shops and pubs nearby, at least a 15 min drive so that may put some people off. Great if you have a dog, as walks straight from the door.
