Camellia Cottage is a picture perfect Lakeland Cottage, set in the quite hamlet of Crook just a few minutes’ drive from the shores of Lake Windermere and within relatively easy reach of the Central Lakes. The Cottage is an ideal place to relax or engage in a wide range of activities. You may want to sail on the lakes, play golf (a 13 hole course is available in the village and two 18 hole courses are nearby), fish, cycle or simply walk from the door or on accessible Lakeland fells. The range of activities, together with access to great places to eat and drink make Camellia Cottage a prefect Lakeland retreat.
With attention to detail, the current owners have created a wonderful cottage that is bright and airy, well appointed and a real treat. The open plan living space is focused around the dual aspect log burning stove and a spiral staircase that leads to the two bedrooms and bathroom on the first floor.
To the side of the property you can relax in the courtyard overlooked by the pretty cottage garden. To the front of the cottage and across the quiet lane the view is of the neighbouring orchard and the meadows beyond.
Whatever the season, Camellia Cottage is a charming cottage that will create fond memories for years to come.
Accommodation in detail:
The front door opens to the open plan living accommodation. In the centre of the room the feature, double sided, log burning stove is a cosy and welcoming feature. Comfortable sofa and armchairs are arranged around the fire in the sitting area, perfect for watching your favourite television programme or talking together. On the other side of the stove the antique family dining table is the place to relax with family and friends over dinner. To the side is the pleasant kitchen, with feature antique tile worktop. The kitchen is well equipped with electric hob, double oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washer drier.
A stone step from both the kitchen and living room leads to a narrow spiral staircase to the first floor where the cottage character continues with beautiful oak beams exposed to reveal the true history of the cottage. Choose from two bedrooms, a welcoming double, and a bright and airy twin room to the front. There is a pretty dressing room to the rear which also features additional wardrobe space. The bedrooms are complimented by a smart family bathroom with bath with shower over, basin and WC.
Back down stairs, the side porch opens onto the delightful courtyard which is a real suntrap on a summer's afternoon. Beyond the courtyard is an elevated and sloping, cottage garden. There is private parking adjacent to the cottage for two cars.
The owners welcome one medium sized dog at Camellia Cottage but respectfully point out that due to the proximity of livestock all dogs must be kept under close control at all times.
Whilst the spiral staircase is an attractive feature the owners would not recommend the cottage as suitable for young children (under 7) or elderly people with mobility problems. The property also features a stone step leading to the staircase.
Camellia Cottage is set in the village of Crook on the edge of the Lyth Valley. Whilst the location takes you away from busier Lake District holiday locations, and into a divine rural landscape all of your own that has been included by Lonely Planet in the list of the most beautiful places on earth, it also offers relatively easy access to the central Lakes. The village of Staveley is a ten-minute drive away and there you will find a good range of shops and places to eat.
There are a number of footpaths that lead directly from the village, giving easy access to the beautiful surrounding countryside. The dramatic Kentmere fells are only some twenty minutes drive away providing access to high level Lakeland routes.
The Lyth Valley lies behind Cartmel Fell to the east of Lake Windermere. The valley is known for its serene agricultural landscapes, its vibrant damson blossom (and harvest look out for locally made damson jam and damson gin from the valley in the local artisan food and farm shops) in spring, and its widely-acclaimed Lake District gastropubs including The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite, The Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank and Hare and Hounds at Bowland Bridge.
This unspoilt medieval village of Cartmel is situated in a quiet valley in one of England's most outstanding areas of natural beauty on the fringe of the Lake District National Park is only a twenty minute drive from Camellia Cottage. Although steeped in history, Cartmel is not trapped in time and the village offers today's visitors many modern surprises in the form of fine quality attractions, shops, a wide variety of traditional Lakeland inns and cutting edge gourmet restaurants including the internationally acclaimed Michelin Star restaurant, L'Enclume. Around the village square you will discover a delightful assortment of genuine 16th - 18th century buildings.
Ten minutes west of the cottage the bustling village of Bowness sits on the shores of Lake Windermere and again offers a wealth of places to eat and drink, a great selection of shops and visitor attractions for all the family.
