Within minutes from Lingmell you can be enjoying walks with magnificent views such as to Biskey Howe, Brant Fell and School Knott. Stroll to the lake shore to hire a rowboat or power boat, or take an elegant cruise on one of the Lake Windermere steamers. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly to Ambleside and Lakeside; a wonderful way to explore without even using your car.
There are many excellent restaurants in Bowness and Windermere, all within walking distance of Lingmell including champagne bars, contemporary wine bars and traditional pubs offering a range of great British and international cuisine. There is something for everyone, both in the village centre and the surrounding countryside.
Windermere Golf Club is just outside Bowness village, on the way to the Lyth Valley. This area is also renowned for gentle but very scenic walking, with a wealth of acclaimed Lake District country pubs to choose from at the end of the day.
Close to the village, you'll find Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House. This impressive property takes a stunning position overlooking Lake Windermere, and has a range of interesting exhibitions. What guests are saying
A group of four of us stayed at Lingmell House for a long weekend break in September.
The house was perfect for our needs and served as a cosy base from which we could head out and explore. The house was clean, well equipped, and the kitchen and living room were perfect social spaces. Would highly recommend.
Lovely house … great strolling distance to both Windermere and to Bowness.
Clean, comfortable and all amenities for a family of 5. (I never get on with holiday cottage beds, but this one was great). Super easy to park on road outside. We read the poor review dated July 2026 the night before we arrived and so were worried … we really needn’t have been!
First impressions weren’t great, windows were filthy and window sill paint peeling off.
The porch hadn’t seen a clean in months and floor tiles broken/loose. There is no outside space apart from approx 1.5m strip in front of house but the bench supplied was completely broken and unusable. Entering the house it smelled musty/damp and there was clear water damage to the hall ceiling. Whole property in need of paintwork refreshing which is disappointing at start of busy season. All walls were marked especially in kitchen where cooker wall was covered in grease and food stains and the gloss paint was chipped badly. The furnishings are nice and the dining table is impressive but impractical and we struggled with the weight of the chairs to move them to use the table. This was impossible for my elderly mother. Some of the cooking equipment was unhygienic as non stick coating peeling off . and dishes chipped. On second day used the bath and when it drained it poured through ceiling below which was previously water damaged. To give Sykes credit the maintenance team came same day and “fixed it” but we were left to deal with a full bath worth of water on the stair and hall carpet. The third day the “fixed” bath did exactly the same thing again and again maintenance came out same day but again we were left to deal with the water damage. The state of the ceiling when we arrived made it clear that the problem was i going and neglected. We have booked with Sykes before and thought we would be assured decent quality accommodation, unfortunately this one didn’t quite meet our expectations nor did Sykes response to the problem. It wouldn’t take much to bring this up to scratch but a disappointing first impression.
