In a really difficult start to the year, we’ve come up with 10 Things to do in the Outdoors,...
Here at Lakelovers we are all for celebrating what the beautiful Lake District has to offer. As you may know if you follow us on Facebook or Twitter tea and cake is a topic that is never far from our minds. In the Lakes we have an abundance of brilliant café’s that serve some of the best cake around. Though we wish we could come and show you for ourselves, we thought we would mention a few personal favourites that are worth a visit.
Established in 1985 Chesters needs little introduction, named after a beloved dog this unique café and shop probably serves the biggest slices of cake in the Lakes. Chesters is located on the bank of the river at Skelwith Bridge, in between Ambleside and Langdale. Full of character and run by friendly staff it is definitely worth a visit on rainy and sunny days alike. Lunch is served from 12 until it’s gone, we recommend you get there early. The menu is full of interesting international cuisines, our favourite is the selection of pizzas available from their newly installed pizza oven, truly rustic and full of flavour. It is a great place to indulge after a walk over Loughrigg.
Waterhead Coffee Shop is run by the lovely Richard and Jane and has one of the most beautiful views of any café we have visited. Situated on the shore of Lake Windermere this coffee shop is a must for coffee lovers. With an array of freshly made cakes and their renown blueberry scones with lashings of fresh cream you will find it hard to choose. Now the days are getting a little cooler we would suggest warming yourselves up with some of their homemade soup followed by a warm scone and rum butter. With their new terrace overlooking the Lake we guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Please find the link to Richard and Jane’s new website below, they also serve fantastic chocolate dipped ice creams and duck food for the kids.
So go on, tell them we sent you, and don’t forget to bring us back a slice of something tasty!
