Parking a bit restricted but a lovely cottage and area. Although nearest supermarket/shop is in Carlisle. (only a short scenic drive away) We would certainly book again if in the area.

Could have done with a wee garden to sit out with dogs but lovely beach at bottom of the road. Great village and everyone is friendly. Dog friendly pub literally 30 secs away. Very handy if you like me and only driver. The tea room is amazing. Cakes are lovely. Lovely relaxing holiday. X

We had a wonderful weeks break in a beautiful part of Cumbria. The cakes and wine were a lovely treat. Unfortunately when we walked in, the kitchen smelt strongly of wet dog as did the lounge area, once the house warmed up. We were able to override this with Febreeze in three bowls around the downstairs.. We chose to leave our dog with our son due to the wet weather forecast. I know the house is dog friendly but not wet dog smelly.

Off road parking also misleading, not off road still on the highway. Kitchen would benifit from some weighing scales & a milk saucepan. Pictures on agents site are out of date, kitchen has more wall units & ensuite room has more drawer units. In spite of the above coments a comfortable property and a good base for exploring the area. The Kings Arms was a delight, a true asset to the locality with good food & a great welcome.

The village is friendly and the pub is also good. This was our second visit and we will go again. A great base for exploring northern lakes and the borders and of course Hadrians Wall. Good cycling and dog walking from the door. The cottage is equipped well for all seasons and whatever the weather decides .

The property was ideal for us with 2 dogs the only drawback being no courtyard/garden for any outside off lead play. The owners were extremely warm and welcoming, thanks for the cake and wine. I would also recommend popping into the tea room. Every person we met was friendly, couldn't have had a better welcome and the atmosphere and food in both local pubs was excellent, we were welcomed by owners in both. Relaxing week with some great walks.

I think it was the little touches which made it special. E.g. ice cubes and ice packs in the fridge, cake and wine. Everything you needed to have the perfect holiday was provided down to dog towels. A multigenerational family was very happy.

The owners were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed Bowness on Solway, the people were very welcoming, and we enjoyed our visit to the local pub, good food and we were able to get the morning papers, we were made very welcome.

The tea room next door is run by the owner and we had lunch there twice as the cakes were so good! The pub is a short stroll away and you can either eat in or ask for a takeaway. The food is reasonable. Asked our three year old grandson what he liked best about his holiday and he said 'the big comfy bed'!

Not too far to venture into the lake district or even southern Scotland. On arrival, we got a very warm welcome from the owners, with a personal message to us on a post card, telling us about the area. A great week away.

In five days we did the boarders to Melrose. All of western Lakeland and Keswick to Whitehaven. Brompton and beyond is wonderful. The roads around Bowness-on-Solway are great for dog walking and for cycling. The cottage is warm and comfortable and very well equipped.. The refurbished Co-op In Wigton is all that you will need..We came at the end of November so I would recommend this as a year round destination. A few yards from the cottage is the start of Hadrians Wall. The Solway coast at this point is both historic and at sunset, very atmospheric. Don’t forget your camara.

There is also some amazing walking locally. The cottage is ideal and very comfortable, though it took my 6. 5 son some time to learn to duck. All part of the character. The pub was welcoming and the food was excellent. Would definitely stay again.

Extra sofa in the lounge area would be appreciated to enable comfortable seating for 6. Only comment is that reception and WiFi limited which is not clear from the listing description.

Lots of room. Has everything you need if not more. Only met Steve who was very helpful. Not much parking space as we had two cars. Great pub across the road. Undergoing renovation but did not both us. Greeted warmingly very time we called on. We had a lovely week

Hosts friendly and welcoming. The Kings Arms is just down the rd,and is also very welcoming,and does some great food as well. Bowness on Solway is a small rural village,emphasis on small,right on the Solway coast,therefore some points to note,( that in no way is a criticism or detracted from our stay) ...... Internet access is rural ....so if you’re used to high speed broadband you’ll be in for a shock ... Sat nav says nearest supermarket is 2 miles away....... well it is if you have a boat ! We went to Carlisle,a half hour drive away,so no biggie! Which is also a good place to visit anyway,so bonus ..... Cottage is a typical cottage from the 1700’s .... thick walls to keep weather out,low doorways to keep taller persons on their toes , ( or bent over whimpering cos they’ve cracked their head ....... again ........ i gave up counting after 3 collisions lol) and yes i would go again. Only a 40 minute drive to the Lakes, half hour or so to the west coastal areas so ideally situated without having to deal with the congestion the lakes suffer with nowadays. Very highly recommended.

Having to drive the fifteen miles into the city each day was the only drawback in an otherwise terrific week spent at Pear Tree Farm Cottage in Bowness on Solway. The cottage was warm and comfortable with all the facilities one would expect. Our thanks to Morag and Steve for a very happy stay there. Fifty yards down the road was the Kings Arms pub, under extensive renovation at the time. We had been warned of the work in progress and if there had been another pub in the village, we probably would not have gone there, but thank goodness we did! Every single one of the staff was so welcoming, friendly and helpful, and the locals were great. Going there as often as we did, it was a completely mad, surreal experience, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. Top class food and fun in a bombsite, fantastic! Bowness is a lovely village in a quiet, remote corner of the country, I can't wait to go back. Thank you to Morag and Steve, everyone at the Kings Arms, and to Sykes for a memorable week.

The property
This characterful original farmhouse, rests on the site of the second largest Fort on Hadrian's Wall in the little hamlet of Bowness on Solway. Wrapped in fine detail and boasting three bedrooms; this cottage is perfect for families looking for an all round peaceful escape. Wander into the magnificent hallway, home to a wooden arch which sets the tone on arrival. Across the way, a sitting room hosts leather seating, and an inglenook fireplace with a woodburner. In the evening you can cosy up in the warmth and read a good book amongst it all. The dining room makes a charming place to sit down with your loved ones under wooden beams and next to the electric woodburner-effect fire. Close by, a utility room holds those extras you may need during your stay. The well-equipped kitchen is pretty and homely, fitted with dark wood units and cream marble effect counter tops, ideal for baking in the afternoon, or preparing breakfast in the morning time. Take the stairs up to two double bedrooms, one overlooked by a Velux window and elevated by sloped ceilings, whilst the second comes complete with a small two seater sofa. You will enjoy relaxing here, before drifting into a good nights sleep. The third bedroom is a king-size double, tied together with bedside tables and a wardrobe for your convenience. The beautiful bespoke en-suite compliments the room well, with a walk-in shower and stunning black and white décor. If this isn't enough, a spacious family bathroom is perfect for relaxing after a long day, stylish and well presented for a glimpse of luxury. To the front of the cottage is a small paved sunny garden, where you can unwind on the bench and embrace some 'me time'. Bowness on Solway offers much to admire, being home to a pub and a tea room, whilst Hadrian’s Wall stretches from the village to Wallsend. The Victorian seaside resort of Silloth is 16 miles away, whilst Keswick and the heart of the Lake District are easily reached by car. Make the most of this desirable getaway.

The village of Bowness-on-Solway lies within the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, to the west of the city of Carlisle. The village has a pub and a tea room and Hadrian’s Wall stretches from the village to Wallsend near Newcastle for some 73 miles, with the walk being defined as a ‘National Trail’. The surrounding area is rich in bird life visiting the sand dunes, salt marsh, shingle beds, and peat mosses, and there are many viewpoints and lay-bys, perfect for spotting the waders: oystercatchers, curlew, golden and grey plover, lapwing, knot, dunlin, bar-tailed and black-tailed godwit, redshank, and turnstone. In 1869 a rail line, the Solway Junction Railway, was opened between Bowness and Annan in Scotland, connecting to the Maryport and Carlisle railway. The 1 mile and 176 yard long iron girder viaduct across the water was damaged by an ice build-up in 1875, and again in 1881. It was repaired and continued as a passenger train until 1914 when it became a freight train until 1921, before finally being demolished in 1934. Nearby, the market town of Wigton and the city of Carlisle are popular centres for shopping, pubs and restaurants. Wigton also has a weekly market taking place every Friday and also boasts a theatre. The Victorian seaside resort of Silloth is 16 miles away, whilst Keswick and the heart of the Lake District are reached in 40 minutes' by car. A wonderful base for exploring Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.
