“We have visited Braithwaite numerous times but had not stayed in Burnside Cottage before.”

It is in a lovely location very close to the centre of the village. It is a beautiful looking cottage with a quirky and interesting layout. We especially liked the Caracole staircase and utility room. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable. The utility room is a real boon for coming and going. It is in a lovely location very close to the centre of the village. It is a beautiful looking cottage with a quirky and interesting layout. We especially liked the Caracole staircase and utility room. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable. The utility room is a real boon for coming and going. The downstairs shower is excellent though we did have to replace a broken bulb and clean the lampshade as it was very gloomy in there when we arrived. The master bedroom is roomy and light, and the double bed is comfortable though given the space available, a larger bed would have been nicer. We didn't use the lounge much but there were plenty of chairs, tables and lights though one was wobbly. The kitchen worked well with a dual-fuel cooker and dishwasher. A fridge in the kitchen plus a second with the freezer in the utility room was a bonus. We appreciated being able to set the week’s heating schedule as many properties with Hive these days don’t allow you to do this. The cottage garden is beautiful, we loved sitting by Coledale Beck for our lunch and to relax in the afternoons after our long walks in the mornings. The old mill stream running across the garden was a nice surprise. The outdoor table and chairs were really useful as was the summer house when it got a bit chilly. There were a few niggles which if addressed would improve the cottage: 1) No washing up bowl that we could find anywhere - this was quite annoying. 2) No flow straighteners in the kitchen taps - the water runs back along the underside of the taps. 3) A short bath. 4) The OK button on the TV remote barely works making the remote hard to use. 5) A chair in the master bedroom would be useful as the dressing-table mirror is low. 6) Thanks for the ‘welcome pack’ bottle of wine but milk, a few teabags and perhaps a packet of biscuits would be more useful after a long journey. 7) The shortest dishwasher cycle was 2.5 hours but unusually you are required to empty it before leaving. This means putting your final breakfast wash on no later than 7:20am. To wash by hand would be less hygienic for the next guests. None of these niggles would prevent us from booking again in the future.

Thank you very much and we hope you do rebook in the future. Highlighting the few niggles is very useful and will be attended to. Property Owner

Although much of the original character has been preserved, there are contemporary additions and homey decor throughout. The open kitchen/diner features exposed beams, a rustic table for six, and everything you'll need to prepare your favourite meals, including an electric oven, gas hob, and a coffee machine to get you going in the morning. Find the delightful sitting area with a bay window, gorgeous wooden beams, leather seats, and a Smart TV with DVD player for evening entertainment when it's time to unwind. On colder nights, make sure to light the open fire for added ambience! Climb the traditional spiral staircase to find three welcoming bedrooms; you'll enjoy sipping your morning coffee on the master bedroom's balcony with views of Skiddaw, while the second double has storage space and a window seat, and the twin is furnished with blue tones and a bedside lamp. Make a bubble bath or take a shower in the family bathroom before pulling on your pyjamas and catching your rest. Outside, a lovely garden with a babbling brook, summer house, and outdoor seating awaits, so why not crack open a bottle of bubbly and relax in the evening sun? If you fancy a break from the kitchen, a stroll through Braithwaite's village will lead you to the Royal Oak tavern, Ivy House Restaurant, as well as a convenience store for the essentials. The lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, trekking up Grisedale, Skiddaw, or Blencathra, and a delightful bridleway along Newlands Beck are just a few of the surrounding walks and outdoor activities. With miles of cycling and walking trails, a cafe, a play park, and a 'Go-Ape' high ropes course in the forest canopy, Whinlatter Forest is a must!
