“As a whole we found our stay to be enjoyable and comfortable.”

However, for us, there were just a couple of niggling points that I would like to bring to your attention. Firstly, the shower head in the downstairs bathroom is fairly corroded with a constant leak from the shower hose joint. Nothing too serious obviously, but it somewhat spoiled the overall feel of what is a nice bathroom. On the up side, the water pressure for the shower is excellent so it was most enjoyable. Secondly, we were slightly disappointed with the communal area. The way it was portrayed in the advert led us to believe that it would be a place to sit just outside the front of the house. With two children, we didn’t really want to be separated from them whilst we were sitting in the grassed area. Again, nothing serious, but we felt that the wording of the advert could have been a little more accurate. All in all, we found our stay to be comfortable and enjoyable with enough facilities in the house to cater for our needs. The cat was very sweet and an added bonus!

“We enjoy cooking meals as a way to save money and tailor meals to our needs, and that's one reason we choose to stay in a self-catering cottage.”

With that in mind, here are a few items that would be helpful to have in the kitchen in Tithe Cottage: ice cube trays to make ice for drinks (i.e. gin and tonic); a hand whisk for beating eggs; lids for the skillets (to keep splatters to a minimum.) Additionally, one of the skillets needs replacing, as the non-stick coating is peeling off. A new spatula (turner) would also be helpful, as the one currently there is very worn and quite small. These are simply suggestions that would enhance the kitchen for your guests. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in your lovely cottage!

.. very peaceful but with good connections to the northern lakes and Cumbria coast. Ideal for a multi generational holiday. Well equipped with good facilities. Only downside was poor WiFi but to be expected so far off the beaten track. We would stay again.

Felt very relaxed and comfortable. Lovely quiet area but handy for walks and for Cockermouth. Sykes as an agency left a lot to be desired. Very unhelpful when covid struck. I would consider booking the cottage again but not through this agency.

“Lovely cottage in very rural location.”

Easy access to the North Western lake district. Warm and cosy with good self catering facilities. I would say that some parts of the cottage are in need of update, the sofas are worn and the beds are not comfortable, the double bed especially was like sleeping on a plank of wood. Apart from that it was an enjoyable week.

Tithe Cottage is a delightful Lakeland retreat situated in a peaceful and tranquil location in the western Lake District, close to Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater. The cottage which sleeps 6 has been sympathetically converted from a barn and now provides fabulous, comfortable and cosy accommodation perfect for a family holiday at any time of year. Wood Farm Cottages are nestled in the rural hamlet of Brandlingill in the western Lake District, close to one of Britain's most picturesque valleys the Lorton Vale. The historic market town of Cockermouth which is the birth place of William Wordsworth is only 4 miles away and boasts a castle, lovely parks, shops, visitor attractions and Jennings Brewery which is open all year round for tours. A scenic drive over Whinlatter Pass (the only mountain forest in England) will take you to the stunning market town of Keswick where you will find many speciality shops, cinema, galleries and much more. The harbour towns of Maryport and Whitehaven are twelve miles west and a little further afield is the Solway Firth. The lakes of Bassenthwaite, Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater are all within a ten mile radius and there are walks of varying degrees of difficulty from the door or within a short drive. Wood Farm dates back to the 17th century. In it's heyday it was one of the larger more prosperous farms in the area, no longer a working farm it now provides a country way of life for the owners and holidaymakers alike. The holiday cottages have been converted from a disused farm barn and now create two very spacious, delightful and comfortable self catering cottages which have been furnished and equipped to a high standard.

COCKERMOUTH

Bassenthwaite Lake 7 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
