“The views were the best we have experienced in the Lake District sitting room dining room were comfy and had amazing views some areas in the property needed some tlc.”

Was very clean apart from marks on duvet cover and one of the pillow cases which I reported but were not replaced also reported leak in en-suite shower but no one sorted. Apart from these issues enjoyed our stay.

“Took a while to find the property, the postcode takes you to a different street altogether.”

The property was overall cleanish but had a very strong horrible smell of wet dog that hit you as soon as you walked into the property. We discovered later that it was probably from the hoover. The beds were ricketery but the one downstairs was rectified with beer matts under one of the legs. There was minimal toilet roll left on the rolls, a basic need should be provided with the let especially with the price we paid. The house generally needs some care and attention which will no doubt be done by the new owners as it had a sold sign outside. I must mention the outstanding views of Keswick and surrounding mountains that made the 25min up hill walk back from the town worth it!

“We enjoyed our stay at The View.”

The house was lovely but we felt that it needed a bit of TLC, for example the front door was difficult to shut/lock (the key was actually bent when we arrived); bed in the main bedroom not great; the big window providing said view from the lounge is damaged (water inside the pane of glass which detracted a bit from the view); wallpaper peeling off walls; evidence of radiators leaking on floors. It also wasn’t as well equipped as other houses we have stayed in, for example only half a loo roll provided for 3 toilets, no cleaning fluids or spare bin bags, knives blunt (but to be fair we have found this to be an issue in most rentals) . All in all, we thought the location was great and the house was nice…..but with a little care, attention and expenditure it could have been amazing.

“Good points: Fantastic views from the lounge windows and best Ever sunsets!”

Very large garden and parking for a few cars En-suite shower lovely and warm and powerful Separate garden room that my son loved, was like having a little annexe all to himself! Bad points: Double beds all creaky and noisey every time you moved. Could do with king size for comfort and size of rooms. Need black out blinds as extremely light at 4am! Even with curtains and blinds shut. Dirty towel left in bath when we arrived. En-suite bathroom floor had hairs and dirt under radiator on the floor, (have a word with cleaner ! ) Kitchen freezer compartment had mould in and lots of ice cubes in a plastic jug! Not cleaned out, Smoke alarm kept us awake last night beeping every few seconds. Radiators downstairs leaking ( we messaged owner to inform of all these, hopefully all fixed!) Outside Bins not emptied and luckily I found the recycling dates sheet and put them all out the night before at top of drive, they were emptied. Either ask people to do this or get your cleaner or agent to do the bins weekly, if we hadn’t done this they would be overflowing now! Garden furniture very tatty and top of table filthy! We didn’t use any of this and perhaps remove swing chair as very rusty and felt unstable when my son sat on it! Tv reception not good in garden room but only free view, no sky, so perhaps always like that! 3 large mats in entrance that continuously rolled up and moved and were a real nuisance, 1 large mat would be better and perhaps stay put! Location is good for fit people, walk down into town in about 15 min different ways, but all uphill back, handy bus stop outside if you needed it, we never used so can’t comment on bus reliability! Overall we would give 7/10 but 10/10 for sunset and views ! Ps. Sat nav took us up the road and 50m and when we tried phoning number given to us by Sykes it rang continuously playing music and we couldn’t get through to speak to anyone! We had to go for a walk in the area to find the property!

“We stayed last year and the leaking radiators were still leaking , there was a musty smell in the cupboard where we had to store food, the washing machine had a really bad smell, cleanliness was poor sweet wrappers on the floor by the lounge table , hair band on the floor of the bedroom, standards were poor compared to last year , draw was full of out of date pamphlets , and a sun umbrella for the patio would be useful!”

“What a lovely house, we enjoyed our stay, didn't want to leave.”

The only downside we found was that it could have done with a vacuum throughout, carpets were very messy (if it had been vacuumed, I would suggest a new machine is required!) The bathrooms, kitchen and beds were immaculate and fresh. One note to add is that it would be helpful to have instructions for the equipment, bit of a trial and error at times. Basically, great holiday, to future guests, enjoy the view from the view, it's amazing!

“The View lives up to its name, spectacular view of the Lake District and missing having my breakfast staring out at the world below.”

The house is beautifully presented and very well appointed. A short 10 min walk into the town centre and 5 mins from the Threkhald to Keswick cycle path. Our only issue was the bins, on arrival we found the side of the house had 15 black bin bags pilled up and litter blowing around. I had to pull out all the bins and bags and tip out inappropriate black bags from the garden bin etc. I contacted both Syke’s and Lakes Cottages about this and got no reply from either. After 3 days we pulled everything to the road edge and it all was taken away on bin day. I don’t think this should have been left to a guest to have sorted out and I think looking at some way to keep to bins at the road edge so if guests don’t know to take out bins or no guests mid week it isn’t left to the next guest to sort out so much rubbish.

“Absolutely gorgeous home.”

We loved it and felt really relaxed. The ‘view’ was exceptional and so calming. The ability to properly live in the house was really easy. We had all we needed. Even though the walk to town is a little hike, it was a lovely hike! Will definitely recommend - in fact we already have. We will absolutely come back. The only comment I have would be given the size of the bedrooms, a bigger bed would be a lovely addition.

“The property and view were amazing and my family and I enjoyed this home very much.”

A few very small details of feedback, my parents are elderly and one of the reasons I chose the property was for the bedroom downstairs, and en-suite would have been a good idea so they did not have to go up the stairs to shower. The dryer filter was blocked and prevented us from using this facility, the kitchen needs some larger bowls for salad and soup. The quilt was light and as the season change a warmer one would be required. These are small points of feedback. We had a wonderful time in the house and really have no complaints, Keswick is magical and the property is in a prefect stop, close to the railway for long walks with my husband and little dog, and popping into Keswick. Would definitely stay again.

“The property was immaculately presented, spotlessly clean, I didn't feel I needed to clean anything which is amazing.”

Beautiful views from the windows and ideally situated for Keswick. The downstairs cloakroom was very well thought out with plenty of space for hanging coats and space for shoes. The only thing we had a bit of a problem with was the bed in the ensuite. As soon as you sit on it it creaks, meaning any turning in the night makes a noise. It took us about 4 nights to get used to it so we didn't wake each other up. This is just a minor problem which maynot affect others unless you are a light sleeper. There was a large bowl in the kitchen containing single use coffee, tea bags, sugar and hot chocolate, so very nice touch. Would definitely return.

“Lovely property and The View is amazing!”

Very comfortable and plenty of room. It is a fair walk into town and up on a fairly steep hill if you have mobility issues. There is a bus but service stops quite early. Taxi’s can be busy at peak times. Owner extremely helpful for any problems you may have, we had a couple of problems with the fire alarms (beware very loud!) so make sure you open windows and have extractor fan on when cooking, they are quite sensitive. Also plumbing… but owner/Sykes dealt with them swiftly. Definitely recommend especially if you enjoy walking/biking/canoing in the area. Lots of space in the garage for bikes/canoes etc. But also great for relaxing and enjoying the view.

“Lovely cottage with outstanding views.”

Only one drawback during our stay was the white decor throughout and white blinds which we found impractical and which made it impossible to sleep after 4:30am it was so bright with the early morning sunshine during June. Having said that, we had a week of wall to wall sunshine so that was a bonus. On balance a very pleasant stay.

“A couple of minor issues - crumbs in food cupboards and hairs in the bath / sinks so had to be cleaned on arrival.”

A couple of safety issues, no oven gloves at property so an accident waiting to happen. All the knives are really blunt so need to provide a knife sharpener. Postives, a spacious property with just the best views of the surrounding fells. From sunrise to sunset the views will blow you away. Good size rooms so plenty of space for a family. Big garden, ideal for children or dog. Couldn't be 100% sure it was secure for a small dog so I kept mine on a lead as it is a busy main road outside the property.

“We had a really enjoyable week at The View, it was exactly what we were looking for.”

It really is a great property and we loved it. The only thing we haven’t given top rating for was cleanliness, as we found a used disposable nappy on the floor behind the curtains in the upstairs yellow bedroom. We also found a mobile phone down between the cushions of one of the sofas, plus a toy bus on the floor underneath the same sofa and we left both these items with a note for the cleaner, but we threw the disposable nappy away! There were a few small items which we thought could have been useful - a large coffee cafetière (we ended up using coffee bags instead of ground coffee), a serrated bread knife (as we had difficulty trying to slice whole loaves with chopping knives), a tray and a squeegee for wiping down the glass shower doors after use. Apart from these few minor points, we can highly recommend The View and would love to visit the Lakes again in the future. Excellent location, beautiful outlook, great house and garden, what’s not to love!

“When we booked The View the property was listed as pet friendly.”

Between our booking and our stay the owners changed their minds and did not want to accept pets, but agreed to honour our booking. The property was decorated to a high standard, well equipped, and very comfortable. Much as we would like to book The View again the prohibition on pets means that we will have to look elsewhere in the future.

“The house, the location & the view were outstanding.”

Also, the effort made to welcome us with Xmas decorations, etc was very much appreciated. However, this was the only property we’ve ever been to where there was no information folder or guest book. A few too many niggles to award 5 stars. eg. baking tray in kitchen that doesn’t fit in either of the ovens, no foil or cling film in kitchen, TV badly positioned in the living room and we couldn’t work out how to use the one in the bedroom. The bed in the downstairs bedroom had to be moved and propped as it didn’t sit right on the floor and therefore rocked and made a racket every time you moved. Also the shower in the main bathroom was cold. Finally, there was a lack of bins inside the property.

“Despite the comments below, we had a really good holiday.”

The property has been recently refurbished to a high standard, but lacked some basic equipment usually found in self catering cottages. Hence the rating. In our opinion these are: A whisk A lemon squeezer Kitchen scissors A dust pan and brush A clothes line or drying rack There was a microwave, but no suitable bowls to use with it. Rather than a tumble dryer, we would have preferred a dish washer! The property was clean with the exception of the oven shelves and trays and some of the pans which were greasy, hence the cleanliness rating. When I booked the property with Lakelovers, a DVD player was listed, and dogs were allowed. Since the original booking, Lakelovers seem to have been taken over by Sykes. The new Sykes listing does not allow dogs and there was not a DVD player. We are very grateful that the owner of the property honoured our original booking which included bringing our dog. We are sad that we won’t be able to return unless we leave our dog in kennels. At the start of the holiday Sykes sent an email enquiring whether everything was in order. I replied that the lobby door lock needed attention. Sykes did not reply. On leaving the property I phoned one of the numbers on the booking information, to report this, a helpful lady (possibly local Lakelovers staff have been retained??) said she would pass this on. We have booked several holidays with Sykes in the past and found them to be very helpful but I wonder if Sykes themselves have been taken over by a larger company and so have lost the personal touch? We hope not.

“Beautiful property.”

Located within easy walking access to Keswick. Very spacious, clean and well equipped. Views amazing and so restorative! Would not hesitate to recommend. Only 2 minor things to improve would be: a dishwasher would have been great (especially in view of Covid situation) and also ensuring that the garden was fully enclosed and a front gate present due to a very busy main road (especially important in view of the property being pet friendly on booking). It is a shame as it now appears non-pet friendly, we may not be able to return.

The property

The View is a spacious holiday accommodation resting in one of the most sought-after locations within the Lake District National Park, with spectacular views of Skiddaw, Latrigg, Catbells and Bassenthwaite Lake in the distance to enjoy. With two first floor double bedrooms, fantastic views and a plethora of great things to see and do, this property is ideal for families couples or groups of friends seeking a base to call home. You will find a well-equipped kitchen, with the added benefit of dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. Enjoy the company of your loved ones within the spacious living/dining room, where a dining table is perfectly positioned for savouring the views as you tuck into a home-cooked dish, or the plush seating arrangement that invites you to relax in front of the TV at the end of a bracing day exploring the fells, there is also a work station with desk lamps for those who may need to work a little whilst on holiday. Concluding the ground floor is a beautiful garden room suite with King size bed, dining table, sofa's and French doors leading out onto a sunny lakeland slate patio, you can look forward to further admiring the views from the comfort of the sofa, with a cup of tea in hand. If you can tear yourself away from this exceptional base, head into the centre of Keswick, where there is a whole host of bistros, restaurants, pubs and wine bars to choose from, in addition to a vast array of interesting shops to browse, a market is held every week in the Market Square. The town also plays host to a number of interesting attractions including the unusual Puzzling Place, Keswick Museum and Derwent Pencil Museum, perfect for brushing up on the local area’s history. Avid ramblers can look forward to exploring the surroundings peaks which include Catbells, Skiddaw, Coledale Horseshoe and Blencathra, each one varying in length and difficulty. Please note there is a section at the bottom of the garden which has been left overgown on purpose to attract wildlife. The patio is raised therefore small children will require supervision at all times.

The popular town of Keswick is the holiday centre of the North of the Lake District and has plenty to offer the visitor at any time of year. The town boasts numerous shops and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering miniature golf, excellent parks, the famous Theatre by the Lake, a charming cinema, the Pencil Museum, a climbing wall, fishing and great mountain biking opportunities, whilst the beautiful lake of Derwentwater at the head of the stunning Borrowdale Valley is only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nearby, between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw or the famous Catbells, there really is something for everyone. Visit Castlerigg Stone Circle, the Jennings Brewery and Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Bassenthwaite Lake, or take a fabulous boat trip around Derwentwater.
