The property

Long Crag Annexe, located in the heart of the Lake District at Ambleside, offers an excellent view over Wansfell and any number of local amenities make this a real home away from home. This ground-floor apartment offers spacious and affordable accommodation for a couple wanting to recharge their batteries in the Lakes at any time of year. The spacious living room has beautiful views, a feature flame effect electric stove and a large flat-screen TV and DVD player. The kitchen diner is highly functional: equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, large fridge, freezer and all necessary kitchen utensils. There is a high chair and a travel cot that would suit a young couple with a small child. The bright and airy king-size bedroom has a large picture window making the most of the marvellous view, and the sleek shower room has a vanity unit and WC. The apartment is bright and spacious throughout, decorated in a contemporary style. The garden has an elevated patio area with garden seating – a good spot (at the right time of year!) for a morning coffee or a cool drink after a day of walking. One off-road parking space is available in the driveway, which is shared with the owners who live upstairs from Long Crag Annexe. Well-trained pets are welcome, but pet owners should be aware that there is no lawn immediately outside the property: the garden is largely made up of terraces and raised beds. This has not stopped several pet owners from having an enjoyable stay – a short walk up past the Health Centre leads to a small open-access woodland. The real advantage of staying at Long Crag Annexe is its location right at the heart of the Lake District. A new experience is available wherever you look, with walking and cycling trails virtually on the doorstep. Ambleside itself is packed with independent shops, friendly and cosy pubs and fabulous restaurants with a wide range of different cuisines including vegetarian easily available. There are three cinemas within walking distance, and the proximity of good local transport links means you can leave the car at home. Take a walk to Waterhead Pier and catch one of the steamers to Bowness, or take a scenic drive over the magnificent Kirkstone Pass to romantic Ullswater and Wordsworth Country around Keswick and Grasmere. Visit the original gastropub, the renowned Drunken Duck at Hawkshead, or enjoy the spectacular views from the summit of Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. Whether you're visiting the Lakes to recharge your batteries, climb the highest peaks or walk in the footsteps of Wainwright, Long Crag Annexe is an excellent base for a couple exploring this beautiful part of the world, whatever the time of year.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
