“Overall we had a great stay at Rothay 18.”

The location was very convenient for access to the town and walking routes with plenty of restaurants and shops too. The facilities were as described: well appointed kitchen, linen, towels and comfortable lounge. Nice outdoor seating area to soak up the beautiful views, which we never tired of. The proximity to the town does pose a down side - noisy bars on Friday and Saturday night clearly heard from the apartment. Ear plugs are recommended for light sleepers! Being on the ground floor we also encountered some noisy neighbours from the floor above on the first night, but thankfully it was for just one night. Again, ear plugs would be beneficial. The mattress on the king size bed was a bit soft for us - personal preference. The pillows were not great at all. Could do with replacing in our opinion. Wobbly single bed frame was fixed with a tighten of a couple bolts. Mouldy sink plug hole in upstairs bathroom needs attention. We arrived quite late having spent 6 hours getting there - we would have appreciated hand-wash or soap in a bathroom as we hadn't packed any. Overall though we enjoyed our stay and would be happy to stay again and recommend to others.

Hi Jane. We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit to Rothay18 and appreciate you taking time to make us aware of any concerns you had. We fortunately havent experienced much noise from the town except perhaps freshers week! Even then it's only been if bedroom windows are open. As you say mattresses are very much a subjective personal view and we usually are complimented on their comfort. Indeed a review in our guest book for the week you were there stated how comfortable they were! Incidentally all beds have the same medium firm rated mattresses on. We also supply a range of pillows including spares to accommodate personal preferences. We have pointed out your comment re the plug to housekeeping and apologise for this shortcoming. Finally we decided to not ordinarily supply hand wash given personal preferences of guests and previous reviews commenting on potential microplastics and allergies! Again thanks for reviewing and we hope you can visit us again. Kind regards Frank and Lesley Property Owner

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
