“Upon arrival we were greeted warmly by the property owner who showed us around the property and also showed us the route through their grounds down to the Lake.”

The house is beautiful and the games room with pool table was great fun in the evening. We found the location of the property great for exploring the lakes. We walked from the property to the nearby Coniston Inn, Bluebird Cafe (great for breakfast) and the village. The bus 505 stops outside the Coniston Inn and goes to Ambleside where you can pick up the open top bus. We definitely want to come back

“A lovely cottage within the grounds very friendly and informative owner and her father would stay here again if I got the chance, cottage had plenty of room was well equipped, was a little cold but with the fire on in the tv room it was snug but was chilly everywhere else even with the storage heaters on so if your visiting in winter take warm clothes although the bedroom was chilly the duvet on the bed was nice and snug once you were under it.”

We ate out a several nice pubs in coniston the Crown, the ship and bluebird cafe. We’re not really walkers just love to get away relax eat well and do nothing in front of the fire. Thankyou Kathryn and Collin

“Fabulous holiday spent with friends in The Farmhouse.”

The owners were very welcoming and friendly. The Farmhouse was really cosy and warm, sometimes a little to warm. We had access to the very extensive stunning grounds. A day could be spent just walking the grounds and admiring the beautiful flowers, plants and trees. One major criticism was the height of the bath. It was a huge issue for me as I have had 2 hip replacements. It is a huge step in to take a shower and, at times, caused me pain. A step of some kind would have been very useful. The lack of a dryer for laundry was a bit taxing but clothes airers were provided taking a good couple of days to dry wet clothes. We would love to return but unless the bath/shower issue is addressed it is doubtful. This property is a great place to stay for the young, fit and healthy.

“Thank you for your wonderfully warm welcome and hospitality at our recent stay at ‘The Farmhouse’.”

We loved the location and it was a real bonus to be able to explore your incredible garden and to walk through it practically onto the shore of Coniston water. The cottage was extremely spacious for our family of three and we spent a very happy time one rainy day reading and playing pool - an added extra which was much appreciated by our 12 year old. We like to cook for ourselves, at least for a couple of days, when we go away and the kitchen was equipped enough for us to be able to do that. All in all a very lovely place to stay and explore this part of the Lake District and we would highly recommend the property. This bit above for publication - not the bit below. Personally we found the 9am departure a little brutal - particularly with a 5pm get in.

An old cottage but work is needed to making it airtight secondary glassing or draft excluder. This was before the storms. Good views towards old man of Coniston, good location to explore.

“We had a fantastic two week stay in the farmhouse.”

The house was warm and comfortable, perfectly clean and homely. The kitchen is fully equipped, there are two wonderful reception rooms both with real fires. One downstairs bathroom with a toilet and sink and upstairs bathroom with shower over the bath. The games room is a fun little bonus. The property has many quirky period features and is very well maintained. The listing and the photographs within do not do justice to how beautiful this place is as a whole. We were greeted on arrival by the property owner and made to feel very welcome. The property is set in beautiful grounds which we were welcome to explore and it is ideally located, within a 30 minute walk to Coniston. We look forward to staying here again in future, could not fault this property and our experience there.

“Great cottage, really enjoyed our stay.”

However the process for being reunited with our lost property has been absolutely dismal. Since contacting Lakelovers on the 17th of September , and paying £15, and receiving verbal confirmation that the lost property would he collected and sent to us, we are still yet to receive our lost luggage. With near no updates from Lakelovers, we called on the 7th of Nov and we told we would have to pay an additional fee for postage. We are very disappointed by the level of service, and based on my experience to date, I would find it difficult to recommend using Lakelovers to others. To date the lost property is still unresolved.

This beautiful, charismatic 400 year old cottage is gorgeous inside and out, offering a fantastic base from which to explore the vibrant village of Coniston, the magic of Coniston Water and also the wider Lake District. Set in absolute peace and quiet, with a delightful garden, breath taking views of the surrounding mountains and Coniston Water itself. Walks straight from your doorstep including the very nearby shores of Coniston Water and a host of local inns and eateries close by, including the nearby and famous Drunken Duck Inn. This is excellent cycling territory and for mountain bikers there is access a few hundred yards from your cottage to Grizedale Forest. Adorning old oak beams and flagged floors blend perfectly with sumptuous furnishings and the warming wood burner as well as an open fire, making the ideal environment for relaxed gatherings or sociable occasions. Two couples or a family can spread out and relax without treading on any toes; the two superbly chic bedrooms are full of space and light and also enjoying the dramatic scenery and the luxurious bathroom is ideal for long soaks after a day on the fells. There are three sumptuous reception rooms including a games room and don't forget the delightful garden and raised decking, perfect for lazy days and al-fresco life. A plethora of walks are straight from your doorstep including the very nearby shores of Coniston Water and a host of local inns and eateries surround this cottage including the nearby and famous Drunken Duck Inn. This is excellent cycling territory and for mountain bikers there is access, a few hundred yards from your cottage, to Grizedale Forest. == Accommodation in detail A private driveway leads to a cluster of chocolate box cottages overlooking the lake and with 2 private parking spaces for Atkinson Ground Farmhouse. There are two entrances to this cottage, one being the old oak original door but we enter via a glass entrance porch which leads into the well equipped kitchen which overlooks the garden and has a breakfast table for any early riser. A flight of stairs leads into the dining room which is a beautiful living room also and has glimpses of the lake with a plethora of oak beams and the warming wood burner, the dining table is positioned to enjoy the view - a great place for entertaining and relaxing. The second sitting room has a sumptuous corner sofa to watch TV from or simply spread out by the open fire and then there is a games room with pool table and access to the garden and decked patio area with seating for guests to use. On this level is a cloakroom with 2nd WC / wash basin. An old oak staircase leads to the first floor and two bedrooms, each beautifully presented and one with stunning lake views. The slate and luxurious bathroom has a monsoon shower over a huge and most relaxing bath and there is even a loo with a view! Outside the rear garden is a delight and the decked patio ideal for al-fresco living - enjoy. Please note that front of the property has slate steps & terrace which will not be suitable for young children. Please note: there are no electric car charging facilities at this property. Location A Coniston holiday cottage takes you slightly away from the hustle and bustle of Bowness and Lake Windermere, to a wilder landscape full of adventure. Coniston Water is famous for its part in Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons, with Peel Island being the setting for the 'Wild Cat Island' featured in the story. The lake is also known for Donald Campbell's water speed record attempt in 'Bluebird'. But the real magic comes from the breathtaking surroundings; dramatic fells including Coniston Old Man, wild woodlands and wonderful Lake District walks. You'll have access to no end of stunning routes, from leisurely strolls to challenging ascents. You'll enjoy access to the peaceful village centre, well equipped for stocking up the kitchen with traditional butcher and supermarket. There are lovely tea rooms, cafes and traditional Lakeland pubs in Coniston village, and the Black Bull Inn is well worth a visit for its award-winning brewery the Coniston Brewing Co. For a cultured day out, head to Brantwood historic house - an impressive residence overlooking the lake, once home to John Ruskin the famous artist, writer and creative thinker. You'll find a range of events on offer, such as talks, concerts, craft workshops and even outdoor theatre.
