Kerri “We have just returned from a week at the Old Shippon and had a fantastic time.”
The property was clean and beautifully presented. It has quality facilities with lovely en-suites to all the bedrooms and a huge and well equipped kitchen diner/living area. The only negative we have to mention is that this property is advertised as having an EV charger, and as we have an electric car, this was the main reason we booked it. There is no EV charger. The property was clean and beautifully presented. It has quality facilities with lovely en-suites to all the bedrooms and a huge and well equipped kitchen diner/living area. The area is peaceful and tranquil for a quiet get away. The only negative we have to mention is that this property is advertised as having an EV charger, and as we have an electric car, this was the main reason we booked it. There is no EV charger. There is simply an external power point. The owners themselves admitted it would take all day to charge a vehicle and be very costly and we’d be better off going to the local Booths supermarket where there are fast chargers. Which is what we did. This was very disappointing. However, we would highly recommend this property and stay again - but please put in a proper charger! (or don’t advertise one). Thanks for a super weeks holiday.

David “Just one small point, could do with more coat hangers in the wardrobe”
- David, September 2024Liz “Lovely place in a beautiful peaceful setting close to lots of amenities.”
The old shippon is very well maintained and has everything you need. Thankyou for the wine and cakes, this was a thoughtful idea and we enjoyed very much. Would recommend this property and location for a relaxing break. Hope to stay again soon.
- Liz, September 2024Craig “OMG this is an amazing place to stay.”
It's huge it's beautiful and well equipped. If your looking for the quiet life then this is the place to go. Secluded down a narrow country lane with parking spaces for 2 cars its perfectly located for tranquility and calm. The back garden backs onto a field full of calming sheep who are now our buddies. The owners are amazing and communication is first class. We would definitely stay again. Thanks for an amazing experience
- Craig, August 2024Craig, it was an absolute pleasure - we loved having you and the family to stay. Thank you for such a very positive review :) Come back soon! Mark and Lynne Property Owner
Merle “A beautiful location.”
Lovely scenery and countryside all around. The facilities and fixtures in all rooms and the architecture were very modern and comfortable. It was a very relaxing stay, which we all enjoyed from a 75-year-old down to a 12-year-old.
- Merle, August 2024Thank you, Merle for such a lovely review. We're very glad that you enjoyed your stay and found the accommodation to be comfortable. Mark and Lynne Property Owner

Matt “A very enjoyable few days, thank you.”
A lovely place to stay, feels quite remote, very peaceful. A lack of tea towels was our only problem but they were soon delivered to us.

David “Wonderful barn conversion to a very spacious, homely, comfortable 3xdouble ensuite holiday home.”
Quiet and well equipped accommodation with outside West facing patio and enclosed lawn area and great views all round. We loved everything about it! Walks from the front door and lots to visit by car. Superb!
- David, May 2024That's wonderful, David. We like to think we have something unusual in the property, and local area so that's lonely to hear. Regards, Mark and Lynne Property Owner
Mary “Beautiful clean property in a quiet, idyllic location.”
We were very grateful for everything being as described- travelling with two less mobile relatives and the property was so easy for them to move around. Parking was fabulous. Kitchen was well equipped and the tea and milk was appreciated as our food delivery was a little late. I also enjoyed your brownie and a glass of wine. Thank you for instructions as it was a very complicated microwave- easy when you know how though! Smart TVs were excellent for family movies. We had a lovely stay. Intended purely as helpful advice - a grab rail in the downstairs shower would make this room even more suitable for less able.
- Mary, May 2024Thanks Mary for leaving us such a positive review. We're glad that the property worked well for people of all ages (exactly what we had in mind when we planned it!) so that's particularly gratifying. We'll look into getting a grab rail fitted as you suggested. Thanks once again, Mark and Lynne Property Owner

Julia “We had a fantastic stay at The Old Shippon, visiting from Canada to see family in the area!”
Barbon and its surroundings are picturesque and the cottage has been impeccably renovated, with modern kitchen, two living areas, three en suites and an additional washroom. It had plenty of lovely space - a perfect cosy home base to come back to each day! Thank you so much, Mark and Lynne, we hope to stay at the Old Shippon again in the future!
- Julia, March 2024You would be very welcome indeed, Julia and we are very pleased indeed that your stay was all you had hoped. Mark and Lynne Property Owner
Cheryl “Fantastic property.”
We are already going to book again for next year. Great having the separate lounge where we sent the men to watch football whilst us girls had some female time. Kitchen was well equipped and a bonus of a bottle of wine and milk to greet us. A real bonus having an ensuite for each bedroom. (No sharing facilities) and a separate toilet. We had a disabled person with us so the downstairs bedroom was essential. Short walk to the pub for a great Saturday night meal. Didn't have time to visit the cafe/bistro but it looked good. Short drive to Kirby Lonsdale and all it has to offer. Would highly recommend. We will be back. Thank you to our lovely hosts.
- Cheryl, February 2024Cheryl, Thank you so much for leaving such a complimentary review. We really enjoyed meeting you and your family & friends and look forward to seeing you again soon! Mark and Lynne Property Owner
Catherine “The Old Shippon is a lovely well equipped and modern property.”
The large comfortable cottage was everything we hoped it would be and had everything we needed for a delightful Christmas break. The hosts Mark and Lynne were on hand if we needed them and welcomed us on arrival. There were Christmas trees and decorations and we had an excellent family Christmas holiday and hope to return in the future.
- Catherine, December 2023Thank you Catherine. We are delighted you had a great break in the Old Shippon and enjoyed Christmas in Barbon. We hope to welcome you again in the future. Property Owner
Rebecca “The Old Shippon is an absolutely stunning property, surrounded by beautiful landscape.”
We had such a comfortable stay here and the property had everything you could possibly need. Lynne and Mark were such kind and considerate hosts. They left us some really lovely flap jack's and a bottle of wine, along with some goodies for my daughter and the dog, which went down a treat after our long journey. They also set up a bed for the dog and a water and food bowl for her, which was so unexpected but really appreciated! Thank you so much! The village was so picturesque and very quiet. We only met a few people here and there on our dog walks but everyone we ran into was so friendly and welcoming. We would definitely come back to stay in the future and would highly recommend the house to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in a beautiful house! Thanks again!
- Rebecca, November 2023Thank you Rebecca for a wonderful review. We're so pleased that you liked the Old Shippon and hope you'll come back and see us again one day! Regards, Mark and Lynne Property Owner

About the location
KIRKBY LONSDALE
Kendal 9 miles.
An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country".
