“The cottage was excellent, everything possible had been thought of, with the owners very accessible (they live next door) and extremely willing to do what they can to help with any problems (which we didn't have).”
The welcome hamper is a very nice touch, but then it is just a confirmation of how keen the owners are to make sure you have the best stay possible. The area was amazing too, with every journey adding to the day rather than being a chore. Although a lot of places weren't open due to the covid-19 pandemic, there was still a lot to do and there is such a range of places to go that are all in very easy reach. From Hadrians Wall to the North, to the Lake District to the South, Newcastle to the East to Penrith and Carlisle to the West, there is something for everyone. Alston has its own steam railway, and although it wasn't running during our visit, the walk beside it was superb. You don't need to go far to get great walking as there are some great walks that start from the cottage itself. Our highlight though, was the drive to Dufton followed by a moderate climb up to see High Cup Nick. If you like good views, it definitely doesn't disappoint. I think a property is best judged on whether people would return. We definitely would, and it would appear from the visitors' book that the majority of people do go back. All in all, this was another example of a Sykes property coming up trumps for us, so thank you and well done.
