Ian “We have stayed at several cottages.”
All have been pleasant but this is the first where we have thought that we would like to come again. So much space both inside and outside and so calm. A very enjoyable week.
- Ian, August 2025Diane “A Wonderful Stay on the Outskirts of the Lake District National Park.”
We had a fantastic three-generations holiday at this lovely cottage. The location was perfect—surrounded by beautiful countryside with easy access to everything the Lake District has to offer. The cottage itself was spotless, comfortable, and exceptionally well-equipped. From the cozy interiors to the relaxing hot tub, everything was thoughtfully arranged to make our stay enjoyable. The secure garden was a real plus giving both the children and dogs a safe space to play freely. Our host, Emma, was responsive and helpful throughout, making the whole experience smooth and stress-free. Highly recommended for families or groups looking for a relaxing and memorable getaway.
- Diane, August 2025Cariss “Our only gripe was the village shop accuracy - maybe our expectations were too high.”

- Susan, February 2024Cheryl “Guests need to be made aware of the very busy main rd that the property is on !”
Also general tidying of the areas outside is required some areas very untidy and tired and looks like a building site with Eris fencing around. Nice cottage inside
- Cheryl, February 2024Janet “This is out 3rd visit, a group of friends using the property for an early festive break.”
Beautiful location and stunning views across the valley from the hot tub. Bedrooms and property comfortable, the kitchen containing everything you need. Owners are very helpful and reply quickly if you need to ask questions.

- Karen, July 2022Tracey “Lovely cottage lovely view shame about the weather”
- Tracey, May 2022Joan “Cottage was lovely but not suitable for disabled.”
The stairs were a problem. No taxis so could not go for a drink. More for younger people who really enjoyed it.
- Joan, April 2022Chris “We enjoyed our stay and enjoyed exploring an area of Lakes we did not know well before.”
The cottage was a great space with lots of comfortable bedrooms and the hot tub was one area we particularly enjoyed. The various staircases we a challenge ifelderly or suffering from a disability but a thoroughly enjoyable experience overall. Thanks
- Chris, November 2021Craig “Had a great stay here, was ideal for a group of us cannot fault the property or the owners.”
Hot tub was a bonus, would definitely go again.
- Craig, November 2021Bery “Home from home we had a lovely week, would definately go again!”
- Bery, October 2021Rebekah “The cottage was as described.”
However I think a floor plan would be handy. We had a part of 9 here from all ages, it was difficult to organise rooms without a floor plan provided as the bathrooms were need to be pointed out on the top and lower floor for out elderly family member who struggled with the stairs after having dinner in kitcken. The place could have been cleaner with covid. The description could have been clearer as it mentioned a high or cd player and dvds for us to watch, however, these items were removed due to covid but board games that could have been used by anyone were left. We took cds with us but no cd player which was very disappointing, if it was mentioned before hand we would have brought one. Over all with everything being said I had a great holiday and the views from the hot tub were amazing! I'd recommend but not to anyone taking an elderly family member due to toilet and bathroom issues only. The beds were comfy and the sofas. Maybe small cushions for the dining room chairs (slightly uncomfortable after a while). Thank you for a great stay!
- Rebekah, September 2021Julie “Loads of room, perfect for all of our family needs.”
We all had a great time even the dogs. Hot tubs views are amazing.
- Julie, August 2021James “Lovely big lodge plenty of room, very clean and a nice garden with a great hot tub with fantastic views.”
Great place to stay if you cycle and want to ride hardknott pass.
- James, August 2021Nicola “With Covid 19 in mind.”
The cleanliness could have been better!
- Nicola, August 2021Elaine “Lovely place great views”
- Elaine, July 2021Jill “Excellent location to access the Zoo, the Ravenglass railway and Lake Coniston and Windermere.”
Views from the hot tub were lovely.
- Jill, July 2021Jay “Super...”
...... Great cottage, Great weather, Great walks from the door, Great pub just a stroll away, Great location for Coniston activities, Great views from the Jacuzzi.....
- Jay, June 2021Sarah “Lodge was so clean and tidy everyone was so friendly.”
A short walk to the local pub fantastic food and so friendly .Only thing is local garage not open till late morning and closes early you just need to make sure you have everything you need.
- Sarah, May 2021Andrew “The place was fantastic and exactly what we expected for a nice getaway to the lakes.”
We did find it hard to find any routes for walking and had to travel by car to get to any type of attraction. Highly recommended.
- Andrew, September 2020Joanne “The lodge was really well equipped with everything you could need on a holiday and more, we all really enjoyed it, our only negative was the alarm in the kitchen i believe it was a heat alarm but was located right above the oven so us cooking breakfast each morning triggered it!”
Very small thing though in an overall really lovely place.
- Joanne, September 2020Andrina “We visited as a family of 8, between 1 year and 53 years, both male and female.”
Staying a week, we were lucky enough to have fantastic weather. The house is well situated on a small hill, with super views. The gardens are nice and child friendly. Over all we found the house poorly maintained and it could have been cleaner. There were lots of cobwebs and the furniture is well worn. The kitchen has been very well used and its well past the stage that it should be upgraded. There was some Engagement confetti beside the TV unit, which I do not think was left there this month. When you sit on the upstairs toilet in the shower room, it slips to the side. General finishes around the showers, sinks and bath have mould and is coming away at parts. The hot tub or should I say the hot bath, is like other things in the house past its best. Only one jet works, which means its more like a hot bath than a hot tub/spa. The house is handy for all areas in the south of the Lake District, however, its a bit of a drive to Bowness and Windermere. The description mentions 15 minutes then 25 minutes, which may be achievable as the crow flies. However, on about three occasions the fastest it took us was 40 minutes.
- Andrina, August 2020Mary “Beautiful location with amazing views.”
Gardens were lovely and beautifully kept. The cottage was very well equipped had everything you could think of. Hot tub was a lovely touch however only half of the jets worked which was a bit disappointing! Only thing I would recommend a hose outside to wash off the dogs after walks on wet days! Would totally recommend this cottage and we will certainly be back. Thank you so much.
- Mary, March 2020Samantha “We had a lovely time and loved the cottage, would definitely stay again.”
- Samantha, January 2020Barbara “Really good cottage.”
Very well equipped with good quality appliances. Exstremly clean. The hot tub made the weekend. This cottage is perfect for family celebrations and get togethers.plenty of space for the children and what was nice was a good selection of childrens books for them to read.
- Barbara, January 2020Andrea “We really enjoyed our stay at bank end lodge.”
It really was home from home. It had everything you needed. We really appreciated the fresh bunch of flowers in a varse on arrival and the Christmas tree and decorations which made it extra special as we went over Christmas period and new year. The location was fantastic for local walks / runs and there was a pub in walking distance that also serves food. The hot tub was amazing especially after a long walk. The views around the cottage was breath taking. Caint wait to come back.
- Andrea, December 2019Carol “Amazing place”
- Carol, November 2019Christopher John “Fantastic lodge, definitely coming back again!”
- Christopher John, November 2019Neil “Lovely house for a great family holiday.”
- Neil, August 2019David “The cottage was lovely, really clean, modern and had everything we needed and more!”
The hot tub was brilliant and the views were amazing, the local pub had plenty of choice and the accommodation was central to all local places (Conniston, Ulverston, Windermere etc) Emma was very helpful and helped putting up banners for us prior to our arrival for a family members Birthday, already thinking of booking again absolutely brilliant time had by all.
- David, July 2019Lynne “Lovely view from hot tub, very clean facilities.”
Perhaps a few extras in the kitchen would be good, no condiments , salt , pepper, sugar etc , no cling film or bags, or kitchen roll remnant which would very helpful. I did take my own kitchen roll but I do find that most places have these as standard. Tea and coffee welcome pack very basic indeed, did not include any sugar and were of the standard of pub rooms. Shower over bath very temperamental and on occasion would not turn on .
- Lynne, June 2019Jonathan “From the ease of booking at the start, the amount of information provided and the property being exceptional, it was a pleasurable experience throughout.”
Will definitely be recommending and using Sykes again.
- Jonathan, June 2019Helen “The house was lovely, but may be would be better if there were single beds in each room, as we were all girls, some people didn’t like sharing a bed, so we did have to take blow up matteresses.”
Lovely views, lovely hot tub very clean, may be a toilet by itself would be handy also
- Helen, June 2019Barbara “The cottage was amazing but I really needed peace and quit in the pictures it looks like one cottage but in fact its two there is a wall between the gardens so really need to update pictures there is a Jacuzzi in the other cottage that the group next to us was still using it at 3.”
30am in the morning plus playing football at 10pm they had no thought for anyone I suggest putting a notice up about having thoughts for others ... I never took my hair dryer but the owner was so helpful and lent me hers really great full. we where just unlucky with that group it has fantastic views the local put is lovely great place. Please update pictures.
- Barbara, June 2019Cassie “The cottage was lovely and set in beautiful surroundings.”
- Cassie, May 2019Patricia “Beautiful setting.”
House very well equipped. Safe for dogs and young children. Garden lovely and well kept.
- Patricia, May 2019Nicola “House was beautiful and spotless.”
Views are amazing. The gardens are lovely and secure. Good to know if you have young children/pets. The house had every thing we needed and more. Toys for children and board games/dvds. - Nicola, May 2019Kathryn “Great house really well stocked and it was very comfortable.”
There was 8 of us and it was perfect for us. Hot tub was amamzing and the views were stunning. The caretakers were really friendly and kept everything really clean and tidy. I would say that the top room has a beautiful dorms window, but could do with a blind.
- Kathryn, April 2019Pat “Ten of us holidayed as a family to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary, including our dogs.”
Very spacious and comfortable accommodation with the added bonus of the hot tub which was enjoyed by the younger members of the family. Plenty of outside space ideal for children and dogs. Really enjoyed our stay. Found the owners very accommodating, thank you.
- Pat, April 2019Denise “Lovely comfortable well equiped and spacious cottage.”
Ideal for families, was well equiped for children. Good location, the local pub was friendly and we had a good lunch there. Relaxing in the hot tub with a great view was bliss!
- Denise, March 2019Daniel “This lodge is perfectly equipped with all your home form home essentials, the hot tub is great after a days walking in the fells, there is a pub 5 mins walk away that sells food and the petrol staton is handy as it sells every day items like milk and bread, also there is a Chinese take a way 10 mins drive away in Askam.”
Coniston is about a 20 minute drive and Ambleside 30 mins away. Perfect place to stay in the southern Lake District.
- Daniel, February 2019Adrian “Had a fantastic weekend break,Friday to Monday,,the property was everything it promised to be.”
The 5-10 minute walk to the only pub in the village(but who needs a choice) was a little daunting when dark but with the torches on our phones only added to the adventure,,upon reaching the Greyhound public house you are greeted by the most wonderful people who are just pleased to help and make your visit a memorable one,,the food is fantastic and their company is better...will definitely be revisiting.. Thank you Sykes Cottages,owners/caretakers of the Lodge and all at the Greyhound Pub..
