“We were a family of 8 staying at the property for a 1 week holiday August 2024.”

Pros - Property is in a good location close to Windermere village and easy walking distance also 15-20 minute walk down to Bowness. The house is spacious with lots of room for larger families. Kitchen facilities are good and had all required utensils. Cons- The heating was not working properly on the first night, despite it being summer due to the weather conditions lots of rain the heating was needed to warm up the property. The loft bedroom needs some tlc, mattress on bed was really tired and uncomfortable, window in this bedroom did not close properly, radiator wasn’t working properly and toilet blocked. This took a few days for someone to come round and unblock the toilet and fix the radiator. We were advised the window could not be fixed. Due to the radiator not working properly and the broken window this made the room very cold. The loft bedroom has en-suite, however due to slanted ceiling it would be difficult to get in and out of the bath so had to use one of the showers in the other bedrooms. Our family member went home from the holiday early due to this bedroom having the above issues and lack of comfort. The outside security light was also not working properly which I reported but was not fixed throughout the holiday. This resulted in the light flashing on and off throughout the night and directly into the back bedroom. The first bedroom on the first floor also had uncomfortable mattress and bathroom in need of updates. If you have small children with you as we did there was no high chair or cot that we could locate in the property. We have been to other cottages where this is standard. I did not see any pre arrival information advising we would need to book these pieces of equipment. There was no welcome information in the house, we know lots about the local area but other guests may find this helpful e.g places to visit, restaurants, supermarkets, health services etc. or who to contact if we needed assistance, hence why we needed to contact Sykes with the issues. There was only one set of keys available and although there was a key safe outside this would not practically work when you need to lock the back door from the inside if some guests are in the house and others not. Unfortunately I would not stay at this property again which is a shame as the house is in a great location.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at Oldfield House. Just giving some context and clarity:- we do not advertise that we provide high chairs or cots and would advise you make adequate arrangements yourself in the future. The security light was not reported to us. Lakelovers contacted us with your other issues and we responded within a couple of hours of that call. The toilet was blocked with excessive toilet paper and cleared when flushed and assisted with the toilet brush. The radiator was bled and it was not possible to fix the window. It should be noted that this window was an upper small window and the lower window operated perfectly. We are sorry that you found some mattresses uncomfortable, we have a programme of updating mattresses to try and offer guests a comfortable stay. It is really disappointing that you state some of your party felt it necessary to cut short their stay, due to the "lack of comfort". We do provide some guest information but will review the content in light of your comments. We provide a front and back door key to the property and have never had any guest issues. We note that you also had issues with the blinds in the lounge (not reported) as these were broken when the cleaning was completed. It is also noted that you must have struggled with the heating as the property was stifling hot the day you checked out with the heating on in the high 20 degrees. We hope that you find accommodation that fits your needs in the future. Stephanie and Jon Property Owner
