The property

Style, serenity and scenery are at the heart of this luxury Lake District lodge, one of only five lodges set in a rural location and only a 10 minute walk from Hawkshead, yet surrounded by idyllic Lake District walking landscapes. This superb retreat is light, airy and spacious providing flexible self-catering accommodation for couples or families. In the wonderful living area, luxury furnishings, extensive entertainment system and cosy woodburning stove are all set on elegant oak floors. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow you to soak up the scenery whatever the weather, but the real treat is the large furnished veranda, equipped for al-fresco dining and BBQs. Everything you'd expect from a deluxe holiday lodge, at the heart of the Lakes. This property has also been awarded the Visit Britain Gold award for self catering holidays. == Accommodation in detail Entrance hall with space for walking boots and hanging equipment. Light and airy, open plan living / kitchen / dining area. The living area features oak floors, vaulted ceiling, woodburning stove, large leather corner sofa and large flat screen TV with Blu Ray, DVD, CD-player and iPod dock incorporated. Access to the large, furnished verandah with BBQ. The kitchen is modern and extensively equipped, with a large oak table in the dining area, which also opens on to the verandah. Master double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, including large shower. There is a second double and a twin bedroom available. Separate 'family' bathroom with shower over bath. Location Hawkshead in the Lake District is world-renowned for its connections with the children's author Beatrix Potter, and has the feel of a village steeped with Lakeland history. Romantic Lakeland cottages, pretty cobbled streets, lovely local shops and cosy Lakeland pubs make for endless days of pottering and exploring the village. The surrounding landscapes are full of leisurely Lake District walking routes. One of our favourite easier walks is around nearby Tarn Hows. Grizedale Forest is great for the whole family, with sculpture trails and cycling routes, whilst nearby Esthwaite Water is excellent for fishing. Hawkshead lies between Windermere and Coniston, so provides an excellent location for a varied Lake District self-catering holiday. Once you've explored the pretty village, you're set for easy drives to all the must-see areas of the Lakes.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
