“We had a great time visiting Cumbria and the Lake District these past 2 weeks.”
The cottage was exactly as described and was perfect for my wife and I along with our 2 boys, (12 & 9) On arrival we were met by the owner who showed us around the cottage and gave us some info on the local area, despite being right next door there was no intrusion and we were left to enjoy our break, as we began to unload the car, she said to the boys, these walls are 3 foot thick, make as much noise as you want :-). The cottage had everything we needed from a cooker and microwave to all of the utensils and pots and pans for those nights where we wanted to save a bit of cash and cook in. Bedding and towels were all provided, and on the middle Saturday we were asked if we wanted fresh and clean of everything. The upside down layout of the cottage was amusing to my youngest with the main bedroom and bathroom/shower on the ground floor and kitchen, living room and 2nd bedroom on the 1st floor. The living room was nice and homely and mid way through the holiday we were already dreading having to leave.
If you want to want to eat out and have a few drinks, the Nateby Inn, which you can see from the front door of the cottage is a lovely place to spend an evening and have some good food. Im not a regular pub visitor but could happily sit in there for the evening. A short trip down the road is Kirkby Stephen which has some great little shops along with a Co-Op where you can get any bits and pieces you may need, should you need to do any washing there is a good launderette behind the chippy. If you fancy a breakfast I highly recommend the Mulberry Bush. The area as whole is stunning, we travelled out everyday taking in York to the east and then over to St Bees for the beach to the west whilst also taking a motor boat out on Coniston and Derwent and then walking/hiking up The Old Man of Coniston.
If you are looking for somewhere to go with your family to see some of the bet sites the UK has to offer, then I would say you have to visit Cumbria and the Lakes and what better place to stay than the Old Cottage in Nateby, I have nothing but good memories of this trip and a few thousand photos.
