The property

The Hermitage is a welcoming two-bedroom lodge set within the private, one‑acre grounds of Lonsdale Villa Retreat, right in the centre of Penrith, an unusually spacious and tranquil setting for such a central location.

Positioned within the gardens of a former Victorian manor house, the lodge enjoys a leafy, peaceful atmosphere while still being just a short walk from Penrith’s shops, pubs, restaurants, and historic landmarks.

The Hermitage can also be booked in conjunction with Lonsdale Villa, accommodating groups of up to 18 guests who can enjoy the entire retreat for celebrations or extended family stays.

A shared driveway leads you to the lodge, where an open-plan living area awaits.

The well-equipped kitchen, dining space, and inviting sitting area offer a relaxed environment after days spent exploring the Lake District.

Soft lighting and the glow of the electric fire create a gentle ambience indoors, while the decked veranda provides an ideal spot for alfresco meals.

As evening falls, the private hot tub provides a soothing retreat to unwind, surrounded by the estate's mature gardens.

Two thoughtfully arranged bedrooms, a double and a twin, provide a pleasant end to each day, served by a modern shower room.

With Penrith town centre just moments away, you’ll have easy access to independent shops, cafés, the Penrith and Eden Museum, Penrith Castle, and Thacka Beck Nature Reserve.

History enthusiasts can visit Brougham Castle and Mayburgh Henge, while the wider Lake District offers endless opportunities for adventure.

Head to Keswick for museums, watersports on Derwentwater, and scenic walking routes, or explore Aira Force near Ullswater for breath‑taking woodland trails.

Carlisle is also within reach, offering culture, dining, and heritage sites including Carlisle Castle and the cathedral.

With its rare central setting, generous grounds, The Hermitage provides a memorable stay in the heart of Penrith.

Note: this property can be booked with Ref. 1125802, together sleeping 18 guests.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.

About the location

PENRITH

Keswick 17 miles; Carlisle 20 miles.

The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District, the Westmoorland Dales and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle, Brougham Hall (The Windsor of the North), Lowther Castle and Gardens, Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
