“Was really happy with the property in terms of location and views.”

Unfortunately, the property is tired, in need of TLC, and a deep clean. Outside furniture needs replacing as is mainly unusable. I loved the venue but when I took a closer look I question how clean it really is. I had my dogs with me but it was clear dogs had been there previously and not cleaned up after. I'm not going to go into loads of specific detail here but suffice to say it needs addressing. We also had issues that warranted contact with Sykes but was unable to do so at a weekend ...

We also had issues that warranted contact with Sykes but was unable to do so at a weekend even on emergency numbers. The boiler packed up meaning that no hot water was available - no shower. This required a deep dive into Google to identify how to resolve a pressure issue. We were succesful but that's also because of having experience of dealing with boiler faults. Also, cows broke out of the adjoining field and entered the complex - luckily they were curious and took a wander off up to the main housing area not before trying to take on my vehicle. I appreciate that is Lake District Life but property fencing needs addressing. I don't want to be a downer on this property - it really is in a great location and is just fantastic sat outside until sun down but it needs to be cleaner and some of the damage in the property needs to be catalogued. Perhaps the owners would consider leaving a hoover and other cleaning materials - I don't mind cleaning up after myself each day. This would add to taking care of the overall cleanliness of the place. Great potential but wouldn't win a best of competition.

About the location

SAWREY

Hawkshead 2 miles.

The village of Sawrey is situated two miles from Hawkshead down the eastern side of Esthwaite Water, overlooked by the woods and tarns of Claife Heights. Sawrey consists of two separate hamlets - Near Sawrey and Far Sawrey - both with a cluster of picturesque cottages, tea rooms and pubs. Near Sawrey is famous for Hill Top, the 17th century farmhouse where Beatrix Potter wrote her acclaimed children's stories. Now a museum, owned and run by the National Trust, Hill Top is one of the most visited houses in the Lake District. Far Sawrey is the hamlet furthest away from Hawkshead and the nearest to the ferry point on Windermere. It offers a church and pub/restaurant with a beer garden. There are good walks in the area, including those to Claife Heights and in Grizedale Forest. It's also a great base for enjoying a wide variety of typical Lakeland pursuits - with watersports close at hand on Lake Windermere, fishing on nearby Esthwaite Water and, of course, fell walking.
