Climb the stairs to the first floor, where you will find four bedrooms and the main bathroom; a super-king-size, a king-size with en-suite shower, a double and a bunk with trundle. On the second floor, you will discover two further bedrooms, a king-size that provides far-reaching views across St Bees headland, and there are two singles that convert easily to a king-size. Outside is an enclosed, safe garden with extensive decking to enjoy alfresco dining; the various decking areas facilitate opportunities to soak up the sun as it moves throughout the day and there is a small grass area ideal for reading your favourite book, and by contrast a larger hard landscaped area, perfect for ball games. St Bees is a place where the coast, lakes and fells all combine to create a destination, full of exciting contrasts, adventure, and tranquillity, that you will want to return to time and time again; it also has a splendid, mile long sandy beach, considered to be one of the finest on the western Lake District coast, perfect for walks or a dip in the sea. The wide promenade is the official start of the Wainwright Coast to Coast walk to Robin Hood’s Bay, crossing the breath of North England, over Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Nearby is St Bees Head, a sandstone headland that is the only Heritage Coast between Scotland and Wales. It forms one of the most dramatic natural features along the entire coast of Northwest England and is home to an RSPB bird reserve, with the largest cliff-nesting seabird colony on the west coast of England. From St Bees, the four main valleys, Ennerdale, Eskdale, Wasdale, and Dunnerdale, each distinct in character lead from the coast into the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Lake District. Wasdale is the home of England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike, and the deepest lake, Wastwater. The radiant beauty of the shimmering lakes, uplifting forests and tranquil mountains attract walkers, runners, mountain bikers, climbers, paddlers, swimmers, sailors, divers, painters, poets, and sightseers with countless options of stunning routes, locations, and views to choose from. Five miles away lies the Georgian town of Whitehaven, easily accessible via bus service or railway, boasting an elegant port and exciting array of heritage, interactive galleries, and exhibitions. Venture into the Lake District, where you can explore Cockermouth the birthplace of Wordsworth and Keswick on Derwent Water for shopping, culture, eating and drinking experiences, all within an easy driving distance. West Lakes Retreat provides a wonderful base for exploring the Western Lake District and coastal regions of Cumbria.
