    No hand towel in the downstairs wc, lack of toilet roll in the en-suite (yes we had brought some), no bin liner in the master bedroom.

The property

Swallowdale is a splendid semi-detached cottage which sits in the peaceful village of Torver, close to the activity-packed Coniston Water in the Lake District National Park. Many excellent outdoor opportunities are available right from your doorstep, making this the perfect base for a fun-filled holiday in the Lakes. Situated in a peaceful area, enter the property and discover a refreshing, well-stocked kitchen dotted with attractive black and white features and a charming little breakfast table to enjoy your morning coffee at. Also on the ground floor there is a comfortable sitting room; as well as hosting snug seating and a woodburner, it also offers a large dining table to seat the group around at mealtimes. Swallowdale's three well-presented bedrooms can be found on the first floor; the master double bedroom benefits from a crisp en-suite. A pristine, all-white family bathroom with a shower over the bath tops this delightful holiday home off splendidly. To the back of the property lies a well-maintained lawn for the kids and dogs to run and play on while you deservedly kick back and relax with an ice cold drink in hand. Torver's characterful 14th century inn is just a short walk away, you can choose to cosy up by the tremendous log burner, or sit out in the beer garden and enjoy some of the tasty food on offer. Just a couple of short miles away is the well-known village of Coniston, home to the Ruskin Museum as well as the superb Coniston Water, here you can take advantage of the wealth of activities on offer or simply watch on from the charming Bluebird Café. A number of idyllic walks are available in the area, displaying some of the finest scenery imaginable. Also close by is the marvellous inland resort of Bowness-on-Windermere, offering everything you could wish for from water sports and lake cruises to the Beatrix Potter Museum and much, much more. Whether you're after a holiday bursting with fun and adventure, or simply some time away from everyday life, Swallowdale is a pleasant getaway for you to enjoy.

The small hamlet of Torver peacefully rests amidst some of the Lake District's most beautiful scenery and provides a 19th century church, built on the site of an ancient chapel. Torver has a fantastic pubs on offer, a Deli and Undercrag studio & cafe, so you will be spoilt for choice for great food. Renowned as one of Wordsworth's favourite haunts, today it’s known locally as a starting point for exploring the local fells and the Duddon Valley and offers a superb base for exploring nearby Hawkshead, Ambleside and Windermere.
