The property

With parts of the cottage dating back over 400 years, High Fold offers an opportunity for you to enjoy a holiday in a real character cottage in the heart of one of Lakeland's most picturesque villages. Troutbeck sits high in the hills above Ambleside an ideal spot from which to explore the high fells around or take easier rambles along pretty country lanes. You can take your choice from two excellent local pubs well known for their food. Windermere village and Lake, Bowness and Ambleside are only 3 miles away. Visitors are welcome at Windermere Golf Club a short drive away. High Fold oozes character with its beamed ceilings, Westmorland panelling, deep set windows with ancient oak lintels, and uneven floors and walls, complemented by modern facilities to keep you comfortable in any season. Accommodation: Covered entrance porch with front door opening into a small inner hallway and then into cosy open plan living/dining room/kitchen with log effect gas fired stove (Free wi-fi broadband, TV with freesat channels, DVD,). A door from the kitchen encloses the bottom of the stairs which lead up to the double bedroom and the bathroom (bath with shower over, basin and wc). The cottage is comfortably furnished with beamed ceilings throughout downstairs, some fitted carpets and some feature period oak floors with rugs. Oil central heating and hot water. Outside: Seating to the front of the property and in the garden to the rear. The extensive main fellside garden is behind the property reached by a path round the side. Here you will find sloping paths and steps on various levels and a tumbling stream set against the lovely background of the Troutbeck valley (younger children should be supervised). Parking for one/two cars. Nearest Pub The Mortal Man - 5mins walk.

About the location

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
