Susan “We had an amazing week staying at ' The potting shed.”
The cottage is just beautiful, it was very clean and homely, with lovely comfy beds and beautiful decor. Hazel, the owner couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful, giving advice on where to walk and eat etc. The position is just perfect, within walkable distance of both Bowness and Windermere, and the views from all of the windows are amazing, we saw deer in the garden most days ! Already planning our next visit

Everything you need in a self catering accommodation is available. The great week if weather made it a perfect stay. Hosts, Hazel and Hannah extremely friendly and helpful.
- Peter, September 2023Michael “The Potting Shed is a superbly maintained property with good quality furniture and fixtures and with all the comforts of home, in a stunningly quiet and beautiful location.”
We townies enjoyed seeing the sheep, chickens and deer. The owner Hazel is extremely friendly, helpful, approachable and chatty without being intrusive. The location is ideal for local walks, popping into Windermere or travelling a bit further afield for tourist attractions. There is nothing to fault for this stay, and we would definitely stay here again.
- Michael, July 2023Tina “Beautiful cottage, ideally situated to Windermere and surrounding areas .”
Host Hazel was really informative and friendly and happy to recommend places to visit locally. As a single female traveller it is a great place and very safe as close to the main house while remaining private , would definitely book again.
- Tina, June 2023Patricia “The Potting Shed gave very comfortable accommodation in a quiet and lovely location.”
The owner was kind and considerate and met us on our arrival. It was a pleasure to stay at the Potting Shed and its proximity to many of the attractions the Lakes have to offer.
- Patricia, May 2023Alan “Absolutely wonderful cottage in a perfect location.”
Hazel is a wonderful host and could not be more helpful. The cottage is lovely - everything you need and more and in a wonderful location. Where else do you get deer in the garden when you wake up! You can walk to Windermere and/or Bowness from the cottage with plenty of quiet country roads or footpaths to follow if you fancy a walk. Great holiday, great cottage - would thoroughly recommend.
- Alan, April 2023Joe “Ideal Lake district property, perfect stay and well located”
- Joe, March 2023Ian “Enjoyed our 5 nights at the Potting Shed.”
Although weather was dry, it was quite cold. Having a wood-burner and plentiful supply of logs was a great feature of the accommodation. The owner was extremely helpful with advice for places to visit which helped us see places around Windermere that we had not visited before.
- Ian, February 2023Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and all the area has to offer. We hope to welcome you back soon. Property Owner
Joseph “Loved our week here.”
Great wee house in a lovely quiet setting, yet only a short walk or drive to Windermere town. The house was warm, clean and had everything we needed (the log burner was great). Hazel the owner was great and on hand if we needed anything ( her eatery tips were bang on). Great spot to explore the entire area. Deffo coming back.
- Joseph, February 2023Dora “Excellent situation, it felt very safe and gloriously quiet, and yet close enough to walk for a bottle of milk.”

- Wendy, December 2022Anthony “Excellent in everything.”
Beautiful setting and cottage. The owner Hazel was extremely helpful and welcoming. The property was so well appointed and comfortable and so convenient for Windermere and Bowness. One of the best we have every stayed at with Sykes. Thoroughly recommend this stay to anyone
- Anthony, November 2022Kirsty “Beautiful property, very clean and comfortable.”
Surroundings are lovely, so peaceful. Excellent position on the outskirts of Bowness. We heard Owls and saw deer, it was perfect. Thanks Hazel x
- Kirsty, October 2022Molly “Just PERFECT!”
Myself and my partner visited and we found that we could not fault our stay at Potting Shed. The second we walked in, it was clean and tidy and the furniture is very tasteful and very comfortable. The views from the cottage are beautiful and it’s very quiet. The old owners live next door and they were extremely friendly and helpful when we needed advice on our travels around the Lakes (they also have the cutest dog, Ted!) The location is spot on, with everything so close by. Hazel, the owner, greeted us in such a friendly manner with some chocolate truffles which were delicious! (We are sorry that my partner greeted you at the door in a slightly… awkward way… I’m sure you know what I mean!) Anybody thinking about staying here should GO FOR IT!
- Molly, August 2022Paul “There are not enough words to describe this fantastic property.”
The Potting Shed was top notch. Not only in character it was warm, cosy, stylish, very well looked after and just simply brilliant. The Potting Shed gave us the opportunity to see deer everyday intense gardens and Owls at night. Stunning location near the town but also far away that you could hear a pin drop. Definitely a place to go to switch off from life at 100 mikes an hour, will definitely recommend and will be returning.
