The property

This detached, stone-built cottage, a former smithy, is set in the grounds of the owner's farmhouse alongside the river Rawthay.

It sits amongst beautiful rolling countryside, just a mile from Sedbergh, in the beautiful Howgills.

This premier cottage is simply oozing with character and charm throughout, creating a lovely, romantic retreat, just perfect for couples looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and discover the beauty of this outstanding area.

Situated solely over the ground floor, a great deal of time and energy has been put into creating a holiday home of real charm and character, from the exposed stone walls to the unusual, but charming telegraph pole in the roof apex, Speight Cottage ticks all the boxes.

Small and cosy throughout, the open-plan living area contains a modern and well-equipped kitchen, a dining and sitting area and a lovely woodburning stove.

Doors provide access to the patio area and the lovely views down to the river and the fells beyond.

A contemporary shower room and double bedroom are located either side of the main living area.

Stylish and well thought out accommodation, every care has been taken by the owners to provide a truly outstanding holiday home.

Outside, a spacious patio area and dry stone walling provide the backdrop for a luxurious hot tub, where guests can sit and enjoy the views of the donkeys, the farm cockerel, the three resident Highland cattle, sheep and cows in the adjoining meadows, whilst relaxing after a hard day’s walking on the nearby fells.

A great base, ideal for keen walkers and cyclists who can make use of the secure bike storage.

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
