Lakelovers can help you find a range of family friendly activities here in the Lake District. Read on to discover magic and adventure for all ages, from 9 weeks to 99 years old.

No visit to the Lakes is complete without a boat ride. A sail on a steam cruise on Windermere, Coniston or Ullswater will have babies and smalls tots enchanted. For the more adventurous, why not go it alone in a rowboat, canoe, kayak or try Stand Up Paddle Boarding, which are popular with teens. We love to find a secluded bay and stop to skim stones and have a paddle.

A family friendly cycle route is a fun way to soak up the famous sites of the Lake District and burn lots of energy too! There are plenty of cycle routes that take you away from roads, like the famous beauty spot of Tarn Hows, which is an easy cycle ride. From here, why not discover the magic of Grizedale Forest, which is filled with cycles routes for all abilities, as well as fun giant sculptures. The Lake District is full of country back lanes and for the more experienced cyclists, a cycling tour with a family friendly pub lunch is a great way to explore.

The many waterfalls and rivers feeding into the lakes make for rewarding family friendly walks. Nothing beats a riverside picnic and making your way together across steppingstones, over unusual bridges, fallen logs and giant boulders. We wonder what wildlife you will spot?

There are family friendly thrills aplenty too, here in the Lakes. From steam train rides and pony treks to treetop nets, and mountain-high climbing ladders, these are experiences to be shared. As well as safety harnesses and caution, an adventure in the Lake District can need a helping hand and a cuddle or two, and that’s what family holidays are all about.

Passions are fed and imaginations come alive with award-winning attractions like The World of Beatrix Potter, Lakes Aquarium and Lakeland Motor Museum. And whilst the Lake District is full of outdoor adventures, it is also jam-packed with rainy-day family friendly attractions too, like the Puzzling House and Pencil Museum, in Keswick, Wray Castle on Lake Windermere and Ambleside Climbing Wall.
