“Peter and Susan are the perfect hosts they couldn't do enough for us.”

Their home is immaculate and has everything you need for the perfect stay with gorgeous walks from the front door and pubs within walking distance. It was so peaceful and so relaxing we will definitely be going back .

“The Coach House is a great place to stay.”

It is roomy, comfortable, cosy, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. The owners are very helpful and respond quickly to any enquiry you have. We have now stayed in The Coach House twice and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. It also has the benefit of being a 15-20 minute walk to the train station from which you can get to many locations. The only drawback is that it's limited service. If you like fish and chips, then the chippy in Arnside is a must and they deliver! Another must is Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve. Great birdwatching and a reasonable cafe. If you go by train it's very near Silverdale Station. If you like Laurel and Hardy, then a trip to Ulverston, the birth[lace of Stan Laurel, to visit the wonderful Laurel and Hardy Museum is another must. Once again, this can be reached by train.

“The Coach House on arrival was immaculate both outside and in.”

There is room on the drive for two large cars comfortably. The top garden/patio area was peaceful and attractive and with the enviable(!) log bird table/feeders there were lots of different birds to see from the main bedroom. Inside the property was very comfortable indeed. The beds, pillows and linen were comfy. The kitchen was perfect for a rental accommodation and had everything you need to cook meals (crockery, cutlery, ovenware, pans and utensils). The fridge was large and had lots of freezer space. The kitchen appliances and kitchenware were quality. The property was very warm and toastie with the heating on (our stay in October) and turned it off when I lit the gas fire which was warm and cosy. Our only criticism we have is that the television is too small for the lounge. When you have been out and about during the day and the nights drawing in, a larger television that you can see and watch comfortably is a must in the evenings! There is not much to do in Arnside, but there is a lot of local history to learn going back to the 1600's. There are two pubs on the Prom which are very welcoming and friendly and the menus are varied and decently priced. A walk from the property to the Prom is 10/15 minutes. A "Londis" shop is a 3 minute walk on the same road as the property which sells everything. Finally, the location of The Coach House is great to see more of the South Lakes (only 30 minutes to Windermere for example). We "Googled" things to do and see in the South Lakes and had plenty of choices to visit. Any time of the year The Coach House is a "home from home".

It met all of our needs for a relaxing time away. Arnside is a beautiful village tucked away on the Kent river estuary with magnificent views over Morecambe Bay. This place is ideal for a quiet break or as a base for the nearby Lake District and Lancashire coast. Very highly recommended.

There was a nice quiet area for sitting outside and plenty of space to park two cars. Ideal location for anyone who is interested in walking the large number of footpaths in the area or wishing to visit many places of interest.

“Expectations were high considering glowing reviews from previous guests.”

Location very good as a base for exploring the area and only a short walk to the shore. Off street parking appreciated. However, there were numerous cobwebs behind the settee, the TV, radiator in the kitchen and in the main bedroom behind the wardrobe, the headboard, on top of the curtains and on the patio door runners and also on the outside lighting. All easily remedied with a stiff broom to the outside and a vacuum for the inside.

“Lovely property & certainly the cleanest we've ever stayed in - looked as if the decorators had moved out the day before!”

Very quiet & peaceful with lovely, rear outlook over the garden from the master bedroom - maybe a couple of small, easy chairs to appreciate the view & birdlife, for use in winter when it's too cold to sit outside? Very handy for Arnside village, shore & station, altho a steep walk back up to the house Nice having a smart TV, even if rather small for the size of the room. Would certainly recommend this property - it was good to return to somewhere warm & welcoming after a day out exploring the many places in the area (Morecambe, Grange, Kendal, etc).

This is a lovely holiday Cottage and I have to say the most immaculately clean property we have stayed in and a credit to the owners Susan and Peter, we had a lovely time here on our first visit to Arnside, The cottage was well equipped, snug and warm , we had good correspondence with the owners who kept in touch through text messages, The value for money for a week stay was outstanding, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend both the cottage and lakelovers Thanks again Terry Marie and James

“We’ve just spent a lovely week staying at The Coach House.”

Checking in and contact with the owners was very easy. The property itself was spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming. We like to cook for ourselves and found the kitchen to be very well equipped. It was nice to find the owners had left a welcome pack of milk, tea, coffee and biscuits which was very much appreciated. The property is very well positioned to do lots of local walks and we also had a visit to Heysham. A big thank you to Mr and Mrs Barker, we loved it.

The Coach House, a charming detached cottage, rests in the former fishing port of Arnside, Cumbria.

Beautifully presented with a traditional, homely interior, this delightful retreat offers an ideal base for a family adventure in The Lake District.

Guests are greeted by ample off-road parking on the gravel driveway, perfect for leaving the car behind and exploring the local sights on foot.

Step inside to a handy vestibule, ideal for storing muddy boots after a day of walking, complete with an adjoining boiler room housing a washing machine for freshening up your gear.

Continue through to the inviting sitting area, styled with light, airy décor and traditional wooden furnishings, where you can unwind on the rustic leather sofa in front of the living flame gas fire.

The open-plan kitchen/diner boasts a striking exposed stone feature wall and wooden cupboards, equipped with everything needed to prepare hearty meals to enjoy around the dining table.

Upstairs, choose between a king-size bedroom with patio doors leading to the raised garden, or a twin room, both finished in neutral tones and retaining the property’s character.

The contemporary family bathroom completes the first floor, offering a bath with overhead shower for a relaxing soak or a quick refresh.

Outside, savour a glass of wine in the evening while admiring the greenery.

Arnside itself offers quaint shops, cafés, and The Albion pub on the waterfront, while nearby attractions include the Cross Bay Walk across Morecambe Bay and the historic market town of Kendal, home to Kendal Castle and the Quaker Tapestry Museum.

About the location

ARNSIDE

Kendal 10 miles; Windermere 17 miles.

Arnside is situated on the southernmost tip of the Lake District in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where low limestone hills, marshy plains and deciduous woodlands characterise the surrounding land. This former fishing port has retained many of the features from its past. The beautiful pier and port areas of the village offer stunning views across the Kent Estuary, as well as providing an enduring reminder of Arnside's illustrious history. To the south of the village are the 15th century Pele Towers, which were constructed to defend against the marauding Scots. The local surrounding area is a nature lover's paradise with stunning limestone pavements and wonderful woodland walks through countryside alive with rare plants, trees and wildlife. The internationally renowned Leighton Moss RSPB Reserve is also just one mile away. Guided walks across the Kent Estuary are available, showing the full splendour of the shore and surrounding area. Within easy touring distance are the Lake District and Lune Valley, the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland.
