Sarah “Lovely stay.”
Perfect base with access to lots of walks. Lots of wildlife to see in the centre and the most beautiful view. Bedrooms were big, clean and comfortable. Overall cottage needs a bit of updating and a few comforts wouldn't go a miss. Still some basic kitchen equipment missing such as an oven tray, dish sponge and bin bags but we managed. It wasn't too much of a problem as dogs were always on leads but for a pet friendly cottage it's not obvious that the garden area is open and not secure.

Alison “Great location, wonderful view, clean and comfortable.”
We had a wonderful time and would love to come back. Previous reviews mentioned a lack of kitchen equipment - this seems to have been addressed as there is now a chopping board, cheese grater and oven dishes.
- Alison, October 2023Steve “Great cottage in peaceful location (despite the adjacent buildings) with great views.”
Larger inside than it looks. Just right...
- Steve, September 2023Alfred “Bedroom door latches need fixing.”
Would be nice to be told if key is available earlier if it is ready.
- Alfred, July 2023David “We loved this place, the view is vast, beautiful and ever hanging, the wildlife coming to visit the bird feeders ( red squirrel, woodpeckers)was amazing, The accommodation was very comfortable with lovely hot water and very comfortable beds.”
All the staff were so friendly and helpful Thanks for a wonderful stay.
- David, June 2023Elizabeth “Thoroughly enjoyed the space, the garden, the view, the gorgeous red squirrels, the peace and quiet (despite the fact that I probably would not have booked if I had realised it was a centre that hosted loads of children - this property is well out of the way).”
Felt very comfortable there. Could maybe do with a washing machine, but otherwise had most things you could want. I'd have liked a couple of tall stools so you could sit up high enough to watch out for the red squirrels that run along the fence.
- Elizabeth, May 2023Ray “The cottage is in a great location overlooking keswick at the base of blencathra .”
The facilities are adequate, just needs some additions to the kitchen equipment e.g. oven trays, cheese grater, garlic press, sharp knives, matches (the lighter was out of fuel),perhaps a dishwasher),extra binbags etc.It may sound picky but it just takes the gloss of the holiday experience when these things are missing
- Ray, March 2023Simon “We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.”
The cottage was warm and comfortable.
- Simon, January 2023Deborah “We had a wonderful stay at Latrigg cottage last September and have just booked it again for my birthday.”
The views are just amazing and I really like that it's the 'end' cottage so you feel secluded, especially in the little garden which leads into the woods. The interior is fine, functional although maybe a little dated. My side of the double bed was a bit uncomfortable and could do with a new mattress, we moved into the twin room and it was much better. The only other negative was that as I have some knee problems I found the outside step a bit high, a small handrail or handle by the door would be very helpful but other than that, I'd move into the cottage tomorrow, loved it :)
- Deborah, September 2022Donna “Latrigg view cottage is a perfect getaway.”
The view was spectacular! To be greeted by that surroundings every morning and the many different birds, is just food for the soul. The blencathra centre was also very concerned in protecting the environment and recycling, which are things that I consider important in my life. My whole experience was incredible! Thankyou
- Donna, August 2022Mark “I provided this feedback face to face.”
The cottage is very cosy, in a lovely position, but is now badly in need of internal refit and redecoration. The standard of decor was not up to the standard generally found in holiday cottages today. The cotttage, although it had been generally cleaned before our arrival, is badly in need of a total deep clean. Unfortunately a lot of the kitchen items were also found to be dirty on arrival.
- Mark, October 2021Peter “We really loved this place and the electric car charger was a bonus but you could do with one for each cottage or a couple in the main car park.”
Also the cottage could do with a washing machine and dish washer. Other than that the views and walks outside are amazing.
- Peter, October 2021Roger “The cottage is basic but made up for it by the location.”
Anyone wanting a luxury LD stay would luck out here but anyone wanting a good location for walking, a great view and basic comforts would be very pleased. We were in the latter category.
- Roger, October 2021P “The cottage is functional and is what you would expect of a field studies center.”
It lacks the feel of a family home. The lighting was rather harsh as well and as the cottage is quite dark, even in summer, this is a shame and again could be an easy fix to make the cottage feel more cosy. The coal fire was not working (not an issue in summer but would be a real minus in winter.) Also there was an issue with the water supply which could not be drunk and so the centre provided bottled water. This was beyond their control and the staff were helpful. The positives are the views and location. It is handy for reaching all parts of the Northern Lakes and Keswick. Most of all, there are amazing walks from the door. This is a good cottage if you just want a clean, warm base to return to, to sleep and cook in with endless walking options.
- P, August 2021Jessica “This is the second time we've stayed in this cottage.”
We LOVE the location, sitting out in the garden with those views make up for any negatives. My only criticism is that the cottage could do with a bit of updated decor, I think the others on the same site have been so it's perhaps happening soon. Prices had gone up since 2020, understandably, but this was a bit disappointing when booking the exact same week and arriving to water not being drinking standard (not their fault and bottled water supplied.) and the fireplace being out of action. The cookware could do with replacing, the knives are so blunt they're not really usable and we bought a new pan to use after the first day. There's a lot of crockery I wouldn't expect, which is great, but we couldn't find a measuring jug or oven tray. None of this would have really bothered us at all, but having paid even more this year, it was a bit disappointing to find a slightly lower standard. The location is perfect and very peaceful. The staff were helpful and friendly. We used the cottage as a base for walking and family activities, mostly in and around Keswick and the location was great for that. We took 2 dogs and had plenty of space, the garden isn't fully secure but good enough. Parking is convenient and we all had comfortable sleep.
- Jessica, August 2021Linda “I felt that the beds were not very comfortable and the settee and armchairs also were uncomforable.”
The reason we gave a good review was the view, which was wonderful. However, looking at how much you have increased the price for same time next year by over £300, I will not be rebooking. Shameful behaviour to rip people off this way.
