From here, take advantage of the stylish kitchen and rustle up mouth-watering meals for your group to enjoy at the dining table. In the warmer months, throw open the patio doors and let some fresh air in, or make your way out onto the decking to savour your morning coffee in the crisp air. When sleep calls, head to the bedrooms to rest your eyes; the lodge hosts a king-size with an en-suite basin and WC and a twin, both with plenty of storage so you can unpack your belongings. Completing the lodge is a fitted shower room, perfect for rinsing off after an adventurous day. Give the chef of the group a break from cooking and head out to the local pubs for some dinner; Shills of Cockermouth rests in the centre of Cockermouth just a short drive away and offers a trendy setting and contemporary menu. Just a short and scenic drive will take you to Wordsworth House and Garden, the historic former home of William Wordsworth, which is now open to the public and boasts picturesque gardens to explore. If you're feeling extra adventurous, head to Honister Slate Mine to discover the climbing opportunities deep in the old mines, or Go Ape Whinlatter to swing your way through the treetop courses. Children and animal lovers may also enjoy Lake District Wildlife Park, home to over 100 species of animals in a stunning area, where you can also stop off at the café to fuel your next adventure. Great Broughton is a quaint village resting in the Cumbrian Borough of Allerdale and the civil parish of Broughton. Home to a Post Office with village store, three pubs and a Royal British Legion branch, it has all you need and more for a self-catered stay near the Lake District. Sitting amongst the River Derwent, there are plenty of scenic walking routes within the local area, with both coastal footpaths and rich terrains available all around. Head into Cockermouth to find a wider range of amenities to choose from as well as the National Trust wonder of Wordsworth House and Garden, the former home of romantic poet Wordsworth himself, here you can enjoy a tour of the Georgian townhouse and roam the riverside garden that gave William his inspiration, where you will find 18th-century varieties of vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers, as well as a welcoming flock of heritage chickens.
