“Great property and very near the town centre with easy access to all shops and equal distance to the lakes and sea.”

Our only problem was we had an elderly relative with us who uses a stair lift at home and we booked the property thinking it had a downstairs bedroom and toilet. It didn't the owner had changed the rooms around so the listing was out of date. We did have two grandsons who helped bring a single bed downstairs so it all worked out well and the owner was informed. Apart from this glitch the holiday was fantastic and I would recommend the property and Sykes have always been good too.

“An excellent property.”

This is our second visit and I'm sure we'll be back. Before I visited the property I got an email saying that the downstairs sitting room was now a bedroom but this was not the case. It didn't effect us at all but just to let you know.

“We had a lovely holiday at Woodville Cottage.”

It was the ideal location for easy access to the town of Cockermouth and for good walking in the area. The kitchen is very well equiped, we cooked Christmas lunch and every utensil or dish we required was there. A great time was had by all.

“Very well equipped and very clean house.”

A few issues need attention: 1. Lid on outside paper recycling bin has piece missing so contents get wet when it rains 2. A bin collection calender would be useful as the glass & cans bin was almost full when we arrived so had clearly not been put out for the last collection. We only found out which bin was collected the week we were there by consulting the Allerdale website 3. The heating system appeared to have a mind of it's own - it was fairly mild when we were there but we came home a couple of times to find it was on - some instructions would be useful.

Located in the picturesque Cumbrian town of Cockermouth, Woodville Cottage is a four-bedroom detached house with plenty of space and amenities. Woodville Cottage is an excellent place to stay for friends or family of eight wishing to visit the area for its convenient location near the Lake District National Park and easy proximity to local facilities. Unload your bags in one of the two off-road parking places before entering your new home away from home. A great feast for your visitors can be whipped up in the kitchen with the double electric oven and stove, fridge/freezer and microwave, as well as a convenient dishwasher for easy clean up! As the wine is poured and the day's plans are discussed, gather your group around the dining table to enjoy a delicious lunch. Relax in the ground floor living room, you can spend evenings on the sofa, watching TV, as you enjoy your evening entertainment. If you’re not ready for the evening to end, there is an addtional sitting area for children to relax in while you have beverages out on the patio after dinner by having them snuggle up and watch their favourite movie on the TV. A separate wet room completes the ground floor's amenities. As your eyes grow heavy, venture up to the first floor, where you'll find four tastefully decorated bedrooms, one of which is a king-size with an en-suite shower room. The other two are doubles, and the fourth is a twin, all of which have ample storage and are served by a beautiful bathroom, perfect for lazy morning soaks with a good book before a day of adventures. See what's available in the local town including the Wordsworth House and Garden National Trust property, where you can see the famous poet's former house, as well as two charming art galleries where you can browse a wide range of art walks and lovely strolls along the River Derwent. Cockermouth Golf Club offers a fantastic 18-hole course with stunning views over the valley to Lorton Fells for those in your group who enjoy putting. Bassenthwaite Lake, a short drive away, offers boating, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding opportunities. Beautiful hikes around the lake and amazing fishing chances await you if that's not your cup of tea. The Lake District Wildlife Park, a 25-acre park with over 100 kinds of wildlife, is nearby and promises a fun-filled day out. Mirehouse Grounds, a great manor house with beautiful gardens, is also nearby and just waiting to be explored! Continuing onwards, you'll find the Derwent Pencil Museum in Keswick, along with Theatre By The Lake and Derwent Island & House. The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
