“Hi. This is a lovely property.”

We stay in cottages and holiday homes quite regularly and I am sad to say that I wasn’t going to leave a review as I would prefer not to feedback negatively but as you have persisted with multiple emails I will let you know my thoughts. I am coeliac and had to clean crumbs up from the kitchen drawers, bread bin also had crumbs in it - also had to wash a few mugs and plates and pans before we could use them. The bedroom door of the second room can’t be closed unless once in the room you ...

We stay in cottages and holiday homes quite regularly and I am sad to say that I wasn’t going to leave a review as I would prefer not to feedback negatively but as you have persisted with multiple emails I will let you know my thoughts. I am coeliac and had to clean crumbs up from the kitchen drawers, bread bin also had crumbs in it - also had to wash a few mugs and plates and pans before we could use them. The bedroom door of the second room can’t be closed unless once in the room you pull the bed out of the way, I’ve never stayed anywhere where you are unable to close a bedroom door. ( removing the headboard may give you the clearance you need to close the door.) The bedding and beds were lovely and comfortable with varying degrees of whiteness, I feel if you have white bedding it has to be white, and the towels were awful, when you held them up they had yellow stains running through them and smelled sickly sweet. Quite unpleasant. We were only here for a short stay. It was all we needed and worked well for our trip. Sadly I had not realised there was no freezer until after I had shopped. That was my bad as I hadn’t realised the details say freezer box. I had just assumed there would be a freezer. I am aware that this is my experience and my thoughts. I don’t like to leave negative reviews as what one person doesn’t like another person hasn’t got a problem with. The cottage is a nice size with parking for a small car and a back garden with some furniture to enjoy the sun. It’s in a great spot to walk into Keswick and drive and explore the lakes. I personally would not recommend this particular cottage to my friends as we all have a similar expectation of what we like when we go away. We like a home from home experience but with a bit extra, something a bit more special than home so it feels like a holiday. This cottage was a home from home experience. It just lacked that extra. I did pay a bit less for this to what I would normally pay, when I consider the three of us using the property for the 4 nights the price for what we got was ok. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip over to the lakes and had never stayed in that particular spot before. I can imagine why some people would return over and over to this cottage as it’s easy to use and make your own for a short while.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. I was really sorry to hear that your expectations weren’t met. I will pick up the issues regarding the crumbs, towels etc with the letting agents as to hear this is disappointing. We always recommend raising issues like this with the letting agents so they can rectify them as soon as possible. The smaller bedroom should be set up to ensure that the door shuts, albeit I know the room is small- again I will raise this with the letting agents. And sorry about the freezer but as you say this is in the detail provided in the website. And I will also look into the bedding. “The kitchen utensils need reviewing.”

Frying pan awful I had to purchase one for my use. Not really enough utensils. Also I found the instructions for the refuse and recycling very confusing. We did what the next door neighbour did, assumed that was ok.

Thank you for your feedback - we would always encourage guests to contact Sykes/Lakelovers during their stay if there are any issues as these can normally be rectified at the time. There are two new frying pans in the house now (one large and one small). There are a a variety of utensils provided in the drawers and cupboards including colander, sieve, bowls, oven dishes, pots and pans and a selection of spoons, turners, etc. We have reviewed the refuse and recycling information to ensure that it is clearer that the wheeled bins at the front of the house should be used - I appreciate that the collection dates are varied but these are governed by the local council collections. “Clean and comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen and bonus of a porch area which meant we could leave our boots and wet weather gear out there to dry each night.”

The living room is so warm and comfortable, as are all the beds. Plenty of towels provided. Lovely powerful shower as well. No complaints, will absolutely look to stay here again when we're next in Keswick.

“Shared drive quite steep and narrow .”

Addition of an electric charging point to be used night time only when rates are cheaper would be really good . Also extra ? maybe a small counter top dish washer in the kitchen , otherwise the bungalow was really well equipped and clean , lovely find , thank you .

“Fair fell was extremely comfortable and had all we needed for our stay.”

The walk into Keswick was easy Overall the cleanliness was good but one or two areas had been missed by the housekeeping staff. However this did not impact our stay at all. The bungalow was provided with plenty of kitchen and cooking equipment but could do with one more dessert spoon and one more small mug for when four people are staying. A towel ring or hook near the wash hand basin would be useful. We noticed that you can unlock the back door to the porch from the outside but you can’t unlock it from the inside and the drainage from the shower is very slow. However we really enjoyed staying at Fairfell It was everything we wanted and more. Thank you very much

“Great bungalow and lovely garden would definitely stay again .”

Two things a bit annoying but didn’t spoil our stay freezer needed defrosting old ice cream left in it . Twin bedroom having to move the bed so you can close the door is a bit of a pain maybe sliding doors may work . Fabulous bathroom

“Main light in bedroom did not work, needs a proper bulb.”

A cafetiere for nice coffee and a hoze pipe for bikes would be useful additions please. Cleaner needs a kick up their backside - Cobwebs, muck behind doors, oven stank when used as not cleaned around top grill and dust under beds is incredible. The place needs a deep clean and not just the spray of air freshener that greeted us when we entered. Otherwise it was comfortable and we had a pleasant stay.

“The only negative was that the fridge freezer part of the fridge was thick with ice and left little room for anything.”

Turned fridge off before leaving to allow defrosting with bowl to catch drips. Bathroom lovely with a very powerful shower and comfy beds and cosy. Great we could still watch Netflix and WiFi was beneficial and within walking distance to,town

“This was our 2nd stay here.”

And would like to stay again. It's a great location. Nice views. And neighbour was fine. Saw him a few times and was friendly. The bungalow had everything we wanted. The double bed was very comfy. But my sister in law who slept in one of the single beds said mattress was hard and couldn't sleep. The 2nd night she placed the duvet from the 2nd bed onto of her mattress and slept much better. So maybe a mattress topper could be the answer. The bungalow is around a 10 minute walk from derwent water. And closer to main bus stops outside of booths. Weather was perfect. And had some beautiful walks. . Look forward to returning and staying here again. Can't wait to see the new barhroom

The property was in a good location within walking distance to the centre of Keswick clean and with modern decor and very cosy nice garden with views across the fells The smaller twin bedroom had very little storage space for two adults sharing the room whilst this isn't always a problem (,depending on the party staying there)I feel Sykes cottages could note in the property description that storage in the twin room is very limited other than this it's a good back for a holiday in Keswick

“Property felt damp, clothes left on shelves had a damp feel to them, 2nd bedroom door didnt/couldn't close as bed over hung doorway.”

Not very good room for children as stopped them getting to sleep easily. On checking under units and behind beds to see if we'd left anything, there was lots of dust and a baseball cap from a previous guest so not being fully cleaned. Double matress was incredibly soft, and single mattresses incredibly hard, uncomfortable for all parties. Parking, stopped at top of drive to get kids out, neighbour complained straight away. (His exact word... if i wasn't going out, I'd be TELLING!!! you to move!) Explained getting kids and bags out and kept chat amicable but totally unnecessary. Yes, it's in notes to park at bottom but to be fair it's surely his problem if he can't get on his own drive. Can't get over the fact he thinks he can TELL me, an adult to park somewhere particular when I'm within the property boundary of accommodation.

We have tried to ensure that it is welcoming and comfortable, and do get a great deal of positive feedback from our other guests. In terms of your specific points regarding the property, 1. I have checked the property and can see no evidence of damp. 2. The door in the small bedroom will close so long as the bed is not pushed up right against the wall. I will ask Sykes/Lakelovers to ensure the bed is left in the correct position for future guests. 3. The beds are all high quality and I am sorry that you did not find them comfortable - we get lots of feedback to the contrary. 4. In terms of the parking. “A very comfortable and compact bungalow, perfectly situated for Keswick town centre, with road links to other areas.”

The kitchen is very well-equipped and the beds are comfortable. The garden is well kept and pleasant to sit in, with lovely views of Latrigg and the other local fells. The handrails on the steps were useful for access; a handrail in the shower would be useful too. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

“We had a nice stay and the place was clean and tidy.”

Everything we needed for a one week stay and a good location just a few minutes from the centre but nice and quiet. Parking was OK, we parked on the road with no problem. The garden at the back is a good size for sitting out weather permitting. Perhaps some photos of this would help market it more.The neighbour was a friendly chap and always had a bit of a chat with him. Overall good stay.

“The property was fine but the main reason ruining our stay at Fairfell was the vile neighbour who half an hour after our arrival threatening to smash our car up and said he would make our stay terrible as he wanted to use our drive to turn his car into his own drive.”

He said he was sick of F/ing tourists staying there.Had to leave on the Tuesday.

“The property is well furnished and is great for accessing the town.”

It was well equipped. The furnishings are lovely and the style is modern. However, the porch has large damp patches with a strong smell. We have had to wash everything we had with us due to the smell throughout the house. The house itself smells musty. I was particularly concerned about the dampness as I have asthma and our daughter is just 2 years old. The kitchen was cleaned to a reasonable standard but when looking behind or under things there was often mildew or dust. The hoover had not been emptied. There were cobwebs throughout the property. Much of the paintwork needs updating. The corners and skirting boards were dirty. In the smaller bedroom, the door does not shut without moving the bed. Cleaning materials were kept in one of the under bed drawers - this is unsafe for children. Luckily our toddler did not find this. The radiator leaked and marked the bed covers. The white grout on the bathroom floor was brown, yellow and dirty. The shower wall was covered in mildew and the fittings needed a good clean. The toilet was leaking at the base. In the main bedroom, there was a damp patch in the top corner and mould on the carpet below. We let Sykes know about this and they offered to send a cleaner but, having arrived and realised we had no other option (we have a toddler so not all properties are ideal for us) I cleaned a lot of it myself to make it liveable. I have taken photos of all of this so that we can follow this up. Having stayed in a four tick rated Sykes property in the summer, we were shocked at the difference in standards, particularly cleaning.

“A year has past since we last stayed .”

We are happy with the property and it’s great location and only suggest the following points as improvements. The bathroom door sticks and is noisy esp if anyone goes to the loo during the night when it’s quiet . It’s enough to wake everyone else up ! The shower door still leaks from our last visit . As we also had a baby with us and did some washing, a few more pegs would be handy.

“We returned to Fairfell for a second time as we loved it so much last year.”

The location is fantastic and the bungalow is well equipped, comfortable and fairly well maintained. The only thing it really could do with is an extractor fan in the bathroom as it never seems to dry out in there and towels stay damp if you don’t take them out and put them on the clothes airer or radiators each day. A few times we put the heating on so we could use the heated towel rail but it was too warm for that really and seemed a waste of energy. The rest of it is lovely though and we would happily stay there again.

“We had a very wet week but it was a cosy property and very well appointed.”

The bed was particularly comfortable. The porch was very useful to take off boots and outdoor gear. It was well situated and we appreciated being able to walk into the town very easily and it wasn't much further to walk to the lake. We were a couple staying and so there was plenty of room.

“We enjoyed our stay very much.”

Parking on the drive is a problem - we noticed that other residents who rented this property wrote that they parked on the road, though this too has its problems. A dishwasher would have been great, but we realise space is limited. The lounge/dining area was smaller than we had expected, but everything was fine. Thanks for having us! For Sykes, we were frustrated by the number of marketing emails you kept sending us - we would recommend you reduce these considerably. We didn't want to unsubscribe because we feared missing something about our booking.

Great location for walking into/around Keswick and for short day trips out. Fairfell was very clean, comfortable and quiet (which was a surprise being so close to Keswick!) There was a lot provided with the property, but it would have been helpful to have a few more kitchen essentials, e.g salt and pepper, oil and kitchen roll.

“Lovely stay in a lovely cottage, walking distance to the centre of Keswick so very convenient.”

Well equipped, clean and nicely decorated and made for an easy stay for our family of 4. Fantastic views from the good sized garden, weather was poor for our stay but in better weather this is a real asset. Drive is cosy but our C-max fitted fine.

“We have previously stayed in this bungalow and it is perfect but I’m not sure I understand the extensive cleaning, there were grease marks on the side of the extractor fan and one of your previous guests kindly left a pair of socks under the sofa!”

Obviously the carpet under the sofa doesn’t get vacuumed?The vacuum cleaner looks like it hasn’t been emptied for weeks. I also emailed your office twice asking for a 10 am checkout, I know that you say you can’t accommodate this but every other company we have stayed with in Keswick has asked the cleaner if this is ok as we normally do the park run at 9am , if it wasn’t possible that wouldn’t have been a problem but to not even answer my emails is bad customer service especially as I received a text at 03.41 and also an email telling us how to checkout?.

“Very nice bungalow in a fantastic location.”

Quiet but also close to the centre of town. Bungalow fairly well equipped and well presented. Quite small for 4 people (we have 2 grown up children) but perfect adequate. Service from the agent excellent - there was a leak in the boiler that was fixed the same day. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would be happy to stay at Fairfell again.

“Our car wouldn't fit down the drive at the bottom as requested, so we had to park on the road.”

This was fine, but I feel it should be made clear on the info that larger cars may not fit. We specifically chose this property as it had parking.

“This property is advertised as sleeping four, with the twin beds in the configuration shown in the website photos this would be correct, however, in this configuration the bedroom door cannot be closed, the beds have to be pushed together and the bedside table moved to enable the door to close, this is not an acceptable situation.”

The garden furniture is child size and would be better if replaced with adult size seats and table. The lawn has not been cut in weeks and the climbing plant next to the garage is blocking the path.

Firstly, thank you for your feedback. We are really sorry to hear that you found the configuration of the twin room unacceptable; when the room is set up for guests, the beds should be configured as per the web photos but with the bed moved a small distance away from the wall - this allows for the door to shut. With regards to the garden furniture, it is standard adult sized furniture, and this is the first time that we have received this feedback. I am sorry that it did not meet your expectations. The lawn has now been cut and it had not been maintained to the standards expected.
