“Overall we had a very good visit to Stair Cottage because it’s hard not to in such stunning surroundings; my summary rating would be 3.”

The highlights are: - location is fantastic - the cottage is beautiful, and quirky - well equipped kitchen - fantastic watching the numerous wildlife in the garden - beautiful and spacious main bedroom The lowlights are: - cleanliness: whilst we appreciate that this is a very old property, we found the cleanliness a bit lacking particularly with regard to cobwebs and dust. For example, the shower in the bathroom had some large cobwebs in it - and they were at eye level not in a hard to reach corner. The same was true of things like lampshades throughout - it was obvious the dust and cobwebs had been there for sometime - whilst the kitchen was well equipped, there was a very small set of wine glasses and one of them was chipped; also a few of the crockery items were chipped - the second bedroom really needs a bit of a glow up; it could be just as lovely as the main bedroom despite it being a lot smaller - whilst we all love a wild garden, the side garden was just a mess. The front path was also covered in petals and leaves making it very slippy - we did sweep the path ourselves

Mrs Young - thank you for your review of Stair Cottage. We're really glad you enjoyed your stay overall. We appreciate the helpful comments you've made and we immediately asked our housekeeper to make sure the lampshades were dusted and to do a thorough check for cobwebs - we're sorry you found some in the main bathroom. We can only apologise about the side garden as we are in the middle of repairing the wall. Unfortunately, after a major tree in the side garden came down in the last storm, smashing into the drystone wall and bringing it down, and we then thought it best to have the three major fir trees removed as they were too close to the house. Previously the side garden was like woodland. Until we have finished rebuilding the wall, we are unable to plant or layout that part of the garden. The tree damage was significant. When we asked our gardener about the petals on the path ( the rhododendron flowers), he confessed he hadn't been able to visit for two weeks prior to your stay as he had been without a car. Our apologies you had to sweep the path. There are normally about 20 wine glasses in the cottage on top of the 10-12 water glasses and 16 good quality plastic wine glasses for the garden. Our housekeeper sent me a picture of the wine glasses and there were only 15 remaining - 6 champagne glasses and 9 wine glasses. Unfortunately, we don't always get told about breakages or chips in things. We are adding 8 new wine glasses this week, as we realise that for four people, you may need more. Thank you again for your helpful comments. kind regards Linda and Stan Property Owner
