“Lovely cottage.”

Ideal for dog owners as no carpeting to worry about. Comfortable sofa's and lovely evenings with the log burner lit. Kitchen had everything that you need - even a slow cooker tucked away at the back of a cupboard. Lots of crockery and cutlery so you don't just have 4 of everything. Bed was really comfortable and shower pressure good. No issues with hot water or heating at all. The only (very small) negative was that the welcome pack is very basic and no personal touch - some sachets of ...

Bed was really comfortable and shower pressure good. No issues with hot water or heating at all. The only (very small) negative was that the welcome pack is very basic and no personal touch - some sachets of milk and biscuit packs with 2 in a pack. There are cleaning items, salt and pepper plus tea, coffee and sugar there as well. However, we had got a supermarket delivery booked so we had everything we needed. Beautiful views and only a five minute drive from Keswick one way and Bassenthwaite Train station cafe the other.

“A very well maintained property with new furnishings throughout.”

The kitchen was well equipped and bedroom/bathroom had lovely decor. The property felt spacious and was well heated with the log burner being a bonus (although very little wood was left for our use). The only downside was the lack of a utility area to hang wet clothes but we managed by using the bathrooms and store cupboard. The lack of carpets (wooden flooring throughout) was perfect for our dog and the tiled kitchen area was very useful to dry him in when when he was wet. Good off street parking and a lovely quiet location within Thornthwaite with it being just close enough to walk into Braithwaite to eat in the evening.

“We thought the cottage was lovely with stunning views, however when we arived we found very little crockery ,and then found dishwasher full of utensils crockery etc.”

The fan in main bathroom did not work along with outside light at rear of property. We also found the drawer under the oven full of crumbs, which we left. On our last morning which was frosty and icy, we were unble to activate theheating to enble us to take a shower before our long journey home. We feel these points needed to be made ,however it did not detract from a nice stay in a lovely cottage.

Thank you for your feedback we’re very sorry to hear about the issues you experienced. I have looked into the issues for you and the extractor fan has an isolation switch on the wall outside the bathroom which must have been turned off previously as it is working when turned on. Our apologies for this we will ensure it is checked and raise this with our management company. I have also checked the historical data on the heating which monitors the room temperature and can see the heating was working and responding so I am unsure what has happened there. I will ensure the back light is checked as soon as possible and pass on your feedback regarding the draw underneath the oven as this is not what we expect. Please note there is also a contact number for the management company in the handbook and they would have been happy to resolve any of these issues for you during your stay. “Very comfortable and cosy cottage.”

Warm. Everything works, tea, coffee and cleaning items provided, a little difficult to find initially, showers hot, log fire to use if you wish, good off street parking. beautiful area.

“Probably one of the most pleasant and comfortable properties we’ve rented in our decades of annual visits to the Lakes.”

Of particular note was the quality of the beds - we all enjoyed a week of excellent nights’ sleep. We lacked for nothing as regards facilities and the fixtures and fittings were of the highest quality. For the sake of completeness we have to mention some minor glitches - the icebox on the fridge freezer wasn’t usable as it had frosted up and, while the accommodation was clean, there was significant dust under a bed (discovered when something rolled underneath). Also, there were a couple of items of clothing left by a previous occupant. None of this impacted our enjoyment of our stay and we’d very happily use Fox Howe again.

“Lovely cottage and great location!”

Clean, well stocked and with comfortable beds! No issues with anything and it was good to be on one level for people with mobility issues. The only suggestion I would have is to put handrails in the shower and bathrooms.

“The cottage is well-equipped, comfortable, cosy, and with the use of a small sitting area outside.”

Parking was easy. Perhaps the most delightful aspect was the peace and quiet, away from main roads, yet easy to access from the A66. One additional bonus - seeing osprey (according to someone local) hovering above the hill behind us. Thank you very much!

“Beautiful property tucked away with breath taking views.”

Completed some nice hikes from the doorstep with the dog and cosied up in front of the fire on an evening. The facilities in the property are perfect for a short/long stay. Myself, partner and Dexter (dog) stopped here for 3 nights. We look forward to returning.

“Beautiful accommodation in a truly stunning location.”

Extremely comfy beds and great family layout. The only neg was that there were a few unclean pots, pans, cutlery in the kitchen drawers and cupboards and the drain catcher in the kitchen sink had egg and beans in it from someone's washing up. The oven was quite slow to cook in. An air fryer might be a handy addition to an otherwise beautiful kitchen space. We will return. What a beautiful part of the country. Booking was easy and efficient. It was a last minute getaway and couldn't have gone smoother. Highly recommended!

Sitting at the foot of the Whinlatter and Thornthwaite Forest and between the magnificent northern lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, is the village of Thornthwaite. Thornthwaite boasts a contemporary art gallery exhibiting many local artists and its teashop and the Church of Thornthwaite St.Mary with its origins dating back to 1240 The beautiful Comb Beck runs alongside the village into the nearby lake. Thornthwaite affords fantastic views towards Skiddaw and access to both leisurely strolls and challenging fell walks from the doorstep. The beautiful Newlands Valley is close by and is great to walk or cycle, especially if you like to stumble across pubs and tea shops and its ‘buggy friendly’!
