“We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this beautifully decorated holiday cottage.”

The interior was both trendy and cosy, making it the perfect retreat. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was lovely – just what we needed to unwind after exploring the stunning surroundings. The location was ideal, easy to access yet nestled in a peaceful and picturesque area. A lovely touch was the thoughtful welcome gift of rosé prosecco and scones, which made us feel so special upon arrival. One small consideration: the cottage might not be the best fit for very tall guests. My boyfriend is 6’5” and bumped his head a few times on some of the lower beams and doorways. That said, we still thoroughly enjoyed our stay and found the charm of the cottage well worth it! The only other minor hiccup was the Wi-Fi, we couldn't get it to work on any of our devices or the TV, but we easily resolved it by using a hotspot and I am sure this is a fixable issue we just didn't bother raising it. This didn’t detract from our stay, though, as everything else was simply perfect. Annie, the host, was so friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home. We’d definitely love to stay again and would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a cosy, stylish, and relaxing escape – just mind your head if you’re tall!

Thankyou so much for your kind feedback and we are so pleased that you had such a comfortable and relaxing stay with us. We pride ourselves on trying to ensure our guests all have the best stay possible. Both The Byre and The Fold are part of a Cumbrian long house which is over 400 years old and the cottages are former barns / byres. You are correct that some of the entrances and doorways are quite low due the age of the building and maintaining its original features and character. However if you are tall you may need to "duck" in a few places! Re the WiFi, thankyou for bringing this to our attention. The WiFi is powered via 4G sim / gigacube as this is the most reliable generally given our rural location. If there are ever any issues like this we encourage guests to just give us a message and we are always happy to assist. We have tested this and it is working as it should be so could have been a Vodafone outage locally which does happen. Re the TV this is automatically programmed and connected so as above it sounds like there was maybe an outage during your stay as the TV also runs off the same broadband for it's "smart" TV features. We will however monitor this and remind people if they have issues to let us know. Thankyou again for your lovely feedback and once again we are so pleased you had a lovely stay and we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back soon. Best Wishes Annie and Christian Property Owner

About the location

TROUTBECK

Keswick 9 miles; Penrith 9 Miles; Ullswater 3 miles.

Troutbeck, near Penrith in Cumbria, boasts a long history deeply connected to its Lake District setting. The village's origins trace back to Norse times, evident in its name, which derives from Old Norse—"Trout" for the fish and "Beck" for stream, reflecting the area's abundant trout-filled waterways.

Historically, Troutbeck was a rural farming village, with its economy heavily dependent on sheep farming and agriculture. Its rugged landscape and proximity to key mountain passes made it a vital stop for traders and travellers throughout the centuries.

The village’s location in the Lake District turned it into a favoured destination for walkers and tourists, exploring the surrounding fells and lakes. Over time, Troutbeck evolved from an agricultural centre to a tourist haven, renowned for its scenic beauty. Historic inns, like the Troutbeck Inn, have long been central to the village’s tradition of hospitality, offering rest to travellers visiting local peaks such as Blencathra and Helvellyn. Despite its growth, Troutbeck retains its peaceful, picturesque charm, blending its agricultural heritage with its role as a serene retreat in the Lakes.
