    “Great location, small but cosy and fine for short stay.”

    Lot of comments about parking but diagram in porch explains where to park and not as difficult as some people make out even when other vehicles are also parked. Would stay again if visiting Ambleside.

The property

This charming stone-built cottage is one of six in a short, early 20thC terrace set in a little cul-de-sac close to the centre of Ambleside and handy for all the village amenities. Briardale Cottage has been designed to accommodate two in comfort. There is no need to use the car on a daily basis - plenty of walks, for all abilities, start from the door, including the famous Fairfield Horseshoe, which rises to almost three thousand feet just beyond the village. Other walks include Loughrigg Fell, Wansfell and Todd Crag, whilst there are easy valley rambles to Grasmere, The Rydal Round and beyond or to the lake for cruises in any season. Ambleside offers a fine choice of places to eat, pubs, cinema and daytime facilities including tennis, bowls and mini-golf making this a year-round destination. Accommodation: Enclosed entrance porch with room to store your outdoor gear. Sitting room (TV, log burner, CD/radio and free wi-fi). A door leads through to the fitted shaker style kitchen with dining table. Small rear hallway with downstairs wc, back door out to the shared rear garden area.Upstairs there is one good sized bedroom with king-sized double bed and ample fitted wardrobes. A fully fitted bathroom (bath with shower over, basin and wc).The property retains a traditional feel with some modern touches - leather sofas, some polished wood floors with rugs downstairs and carpets upstairs. Outside: Shared use of the large and very pleasant rear garden (belonging to Briardale along with the other cottages in the terrace), with lawns, shrubs, garden table and chairs and a pretty view. Private parking for one small car (Fiesta/Polo) at the front of the cottage. There is no passing traffic. Few hundred yards to shops and village facilities.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
