“My daughter and I had 5 nights in this lovely cottage in October 2025.”

Having 2 spacious bedrooms was a treat. One in the basement and one upstairs, both with their own bathrooms (not ensuite). Beds were comfortable and plenty of pillows. The fixtures and fittings throughout were of high quality and the cottage was clean and comfortable. We did need to use the heating which kept it warm and cosy. Plenty of hot water. The kitchen and lounge might be snug for 4 adults, but still comfortable. Parking outside wasn't an issue. As mentioned in other reviews, it is a walk ...

The kitchen and lounge might be snug for 4 adults, but still comfortable. Parking outside wasn't an issue. As mentioned in other reviews, it is a walk up hill to get home, but that is similar to many properties in Ambleside. The location was very convenient, a short walk to shops and restaurants. The addition of pocket torches provided in the kitchen was very welcomed as we hadn't brought any and the shoe drying rack was very effective in front of the radiator. The downstairs bedroom and kitchen have tiled floors so bring slippers. The only thing to note is no freezer. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely consider rebooking this property the next time we visit the Lake District.

About the location

AMBLESIDE

Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside with its numerous shops makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips, and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and the lakeside at Waterhead with parkland offering lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach. A walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre. Ambleside has plenty of restaurants and pubs to suit all tastes from great fish & chips to its two Michelin Star restaurants and all tastes in between are catered for.
