“Good house, attractive and convenient location.”

But.. Can opener didn't work One light bulb not working Location of WiFi code not easy to spot No egg cups Couldn't figure out how to stop CH switching on.. Could't figure out how to watch TV....we are switch on and choose channel kind of folk. A welcome pack would have been helpful

Thank you very much for your review, we are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Hilber. We really value your feedback and will be able to take action on the points that you have mentioned. The kitchen is pretty well equipped but may well be missing some niche items such as egg cups! The cottage does have a welcome pack which explains many things about the cottage, including WiFi and TV instructions. I’m sorry that you were not able to find this, however we will ask the property managers to ensure this is left available and easy to find for guests in future. Thank you again for staying at Hilber. “We had a lovely week at Hilber Cottage, it’s a charming cottage.”

It could do with a really deep clean, including hoovering the beds as every morning we were all waking up sneezing with blocked up noses. Also then heating and hot water stopped working 2 nights before we left which was a pain. The decorative cushions on the sofa in the living room and table place mats could do with replacing too. Other than that though, all good, thank you.

“A lovely cottage and in a perfect location; just outside the main town but just a 5 minute walk to all the shops and restaurants etc.”

Everything you could possibly think of or require for cooking is provided in the kitchen, although we only ate breakfast. And when the evenings got chilly the almost instant heating quickly made the cottage warm and cosy. Our only complaint is the mattresses in the bedrooms could do with being replaced as they are about past their best. Not that it stopped us sleeping after enjoying the hikes and walks around the area. Highly recommend this cottage for a stay In Ambleside.

“Firstly we had an excellent time at Hilber Cottage and we would definitely stay again when back in the Lake District.”

The cottage is large and the interior had been furnished to a high standard, photo's don't really do it justice. There are some improvements/ things to note which could make the cottage even more perfect and without people saying the owners would never know. - a mirror on opposite wall then coming out the drive, it is dangerous coming out the drive as you can't see left or right, a mirror would help so much. - bath taps, the hot and cold water taps are fitted the wrong way which could lead to someone scalding themselves. - no wardrobe to hang clothes in the main bedroom - basics / necessities, we know it's minor but little things really do do a long way. It would be nice to walk into the cottage where the basics such as salt & pepper, toilet roll, firelighters, logs etc had been topped up. Overall our stay really was fantastic and we have already recommended it to our parents, and we would recommend it for anyone looking to stay in Ambleside (as long as you don't mind a 10min walk back up hill to the cottage).

“Great cottage, great views, fully equipped, only 3 of us stayed in the end therefore only having one bathroom was not a problem.”

Close enough, to be able to walk jnto Ambleside but you needed a reasonable level of fitness to walk back. Parking one car was fine but would have been pushed to get two in. Would book again.

“A short hike up the hill from Ambleside, this end-terraced cottage was beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and contained everything you could need.”

Our long-weekend stay was made possible, that with permission from the owner, we could charge our car with a granny cable. We'll definitely add this to our list of return-visit holiday properties.

Mattress on double bed uncomfortable and big tear in duvet cover. Kitchen well equipped and appreciated the cleaning kit . Vehicle access is tricky and some users would find very difficult. No starter kit left for fire.

Thank you very much for the feedback, we genuinely appreciate you taking the time to let us know how you found the accommodation and the service. We only recently took the decision to let the cottage that has been a family holiday home for over 15 years, and as such we are doing what we can to ensure that clients have the very best experience possible. Over the past 6 months we have equipped the cottage with brand new beds and mattresses, but I appreciate that mattress choice is very personal and may not be to everyones taste. We are sorry to hear that you found the duvet cover to have a tear in it and have feedback to Heart of the Lakes as they provide all towels and linnen. Sadly we are unable to provide a fire starter kit as we do not live locally, but it is usually the case that there are some left over firelighters and kindling from the previous guest. We are sorry that you found parking tricky, there is off road parking for 2 vehicles and have previously been able to accommodate 2 large 4x4’s at the same time. “Great little cottage just outside of Ambleside, very cosy with the log burner on in the evenings, 5 minute walk into the village which has everything you need in terms of shops / pubs / restaurants etc.”

It’s worth noting the walk back is up a very steep hill, wasn’t a problem at all for us but may be for others. The cottage itself was clean, comfortable and well equipped, with allocated off road parking directly outside the property, which can sometimes be hard to come by in The Lakes. The log burner was easy to use and the cupboards were well stocked with various board games - there is a TV however we did not use it. Phone signal is intermittent however there is adequate wifi. Although there was only the two of us, you would comfortably fit 4-6 humans in this property. The bed was very comfortable and it was pleasant to wake up to the sound of sheep and tiny horses, with lovely views onto Wansfell / Loughrigg out of the windows. We queried if we were the first guests in this property as no one had signed the guest book or left a review online prior to our visit. Ultimately, having stayed in many Lake District properties over the years, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would absolutely consider staying here again. The only constructive criticism is that there was no welcome pack - it is rare for properties not to leave these in this day and age - some milk and biscuits would have saved us from having to go straight out to the shop on arrival before we could have a brew (however in fairness there was some tea / coffee left in the cupboards, as well as various frozen items, ? from previous occupants).
