“The reason I did not give you 5 Stars is due 2 factors which are very personal.”

I have limited mobility and I was not able to negotiate the Struggle and I also found the entrance into the garden hard because the steps were very steep. For these reasons alone I would not give you 5 stars. Once inside, the bungalow was excellent!

One is 15 years old, and the other is losing her sight, so we were unable to set them free in the garden & had to be observant at all times.

A steep ten minute walk from the town to the property but no problem if you are reasonably fit. Very peaceful and quiet will definately be rerturning in ther future. I loved it!

A delightful property, comfortable and all you need for a stay in The Lakes. Superb views overlooking the fields and the fells. Whilst we had mixed weather during our stay, this in no way detracted from how much we enjoyed our holiday. We’re hoping to visit again.

“We were 4 adults and a dog travelling to the Lakes for the first time.”

The Cedars was well presented, clean, well kept, and had everything you would need for a holiday. In particular the wrap-around conservatory was the focal point, a bright, warm place to eat, relax and play games. The cottage had plenty of cutlery, plates, dishes, mugs, glasses etc, so we didn't want for anything. On the odd cooler eve, the heating worked well, and there was always plenty of hot water for washing up, or showering. We used the microwave and oven only, and hand washed as we ate out (or had takeaway). There is a modern dishwasher and washing machine, together with an electric hob, kettle and toaster. The living room has a large flat screen TV, BT TV box and DVD Player, there is a good selection of DVDs and books to read. The Cedars is up a hill, around 8-min from the town, but my wife of 60 and small dog were able to make the short climb without issue. We found the slight separation from the town was great, it provided great views of the hills and made the cottage very peaceful. I would highly recommend the Cedars, and we would gladly stay again. “Great cottage , only small niggle was that there was a lack of outside clothes line , maybe on the garage but couldn't open the garage door , apart from that we had a really nice comfortable stay , the views from the front were superb, neither my wife or I wanted to leave so thanks for letting us stay at your home.”

It was at the top of a hill but that didn’t bother us and resulted in great views. Ambleside is a great place to explore Windermere and surrounding areas. Highly recommended

“Garden and outside area badly needs attention not good.”

. living room carpet smells musty not good.. windows need a good cleaning we had to clean the kitchen window to see through it not good.. kitchen badly designed no cupboard space to put any food and have to get steps out when you need anything not good when you are 89 , 84, and disabled.. bedding and towels clean but had big holes in.. I think for the price you pay things could be a lot better.. thank you susan

“The bungalow was a great find!”

Easy to access. Steep driveway and steps to the property. Hey, it's the Lake district! One useful carparking spot. The views are stunning from the back bedroom and conservatory overlooking Loughrigg fell and if you are lucky behind that you can see The Langdales. The property was well stocked as many have said. We stayed in mid Feb, it was cold and sometimes misty in the morning and we loved the homely feel. From The Cedars you can walk to so many of Wainwright's walks. Loughrigg Fell, Red Screes, Fairfield to name a few. Ambleside is at the bottom of the hill about a 10 minute walk. We would definitely stay again.

Lovely position and we had some spectacular sunsets and sunrises over the Langdale's. Please ignore people who moan about there being "too many hills", it's the Lake District what did you expect? One of the best places we have stayed and we have been coming to Cumbria for years.

“Perfect. I was sorry to leave.”

The property is very clean, well maintained, faultless. I have a small poodle and so not totally doggy minded and the property showed no signs of other dogs having stayed there which is what I want. The location is so fabulous, just 10 mins from the shops etc. We even loved the climb back up The Struggle I have every intention of returning.

“We had a wonderful stay at The Cedars.”

It is perfectly located at a short walk to Ambleside town centre and elevated on a peaceful lane. The cottage was clean, well presented with a great conservatory and patio lending stunning stunning views of the Fells. The kitchen was superbly equipped and a cosy living room with an open fire, WiFi and HDTV. The owners had obviously paid a lot of attention to detail to make us feel very much at home. We'll be back! “A superb holiday cottage with spectacular views and perfectly situated just a 10 minute picturesque walk into Ambleside.”

The owners have thought of everything to make this a complete home from home, thoroughly relaxing experience. Very comfortable beds, lovely linen and towels, every utensil and item of crockery you could ever need. All mod-cons and beautifully clean and cosy. The conservatory overlooking the hills and open fields is a stunning spot to relax at any time of day but we especially enjoyed watching the sun go down after our active day. The walks straight off the doorstep are stunning and plentiful. Just one small suggestion as a dog friendly accommodation- maybe an outside tap and hose to facilitate a dog wash on return from muddy walks. We coped well with the watering can but a hose/tap would be even better outside. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. We are already looking at your availability for next year.

“Beautiful, comfortable home.”

Ideal for dogs. We loved the location as it was away from the main Ambleside traffic but still accessible. Be aware it is a 15 min steep hill to get you into Ambleside. Without a pavement for a short time. This was not a problem for us and we had a wonderful time.

Small toilet didn’t work or vacuum and it would have been nice if there had been an attempt to fix the toilet. It was a very comfortable house and beds were great.

The property

Admire the stunning surroundings of the Lake District at The Cedars, a delightful two bedroom bungalow near Ambleside. The Cedars, located in a quiet location and a short walk from the town centre, offers spacious living for up to four guests. On arrival at the property, head through the enclosed garden and up a few steps where you will find the front door into the kitchen, here you can kick off your walking boots, and cook up a meal for you and your guests in the well equipped kitchen, consisting of a fridge, freezer, electric hob and oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and a small table and chairs to enjoy your breakfast. Settle down and relax with the open fire in the living room, a great space to enjoy a film after a long day of exploring the Lake District, or you can even enjoy some quiet time with a book in the conservatory looking out to the terrace and garden and beautiful views in the background. There is a double bedroom with a wardrobe to store your belongings, and the second twin bedroom which can be a king-size if needed with zip/link features. The bathroom is complete with shower cubicle, WC and wash basin and there is an additional WC located in the hallway. Grasmere 4.4 miles; Windermere 4.7 miles; Keswick 16.7 miles.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
