“Post-booking : The customer service from Sykes pre-arrival was very disappointing.”

I made numerous calls to the office about some questions ( not covered by FAQ’s) but the phone was never answered. I finally had to call the emergency number in office hours to get a response which then had to be referred to the main office. On arrival: We had a problem getting into the house. The door latch appeared to be stuck at the top & bottome with no instructions on how to access the property. I called the maintenance line & was told they would come out the next day to look at it ...

I called the maintenance line & was told they would come out the next day to look at it - they didn’t. We ended up using the patio door throughout our stay. Cleanliness: Whilst it’s a beautiful property, several things let it down. The stairs had not been properly vacuumed. Bits of paper, fluff & plastic film were all noticeable & had to be picked up by us. On the first landing there were even nail clippings present ( either toe or finger!) The towels smelled dirty as if either washing powder had not been used or they hadn’t been dried properly. One towel even had a long black hair on it ( not from our party). I purchased some washing tablets & washed them myself. On opening the washing machine, I then found a pair of dirty hiking socks in there! There was dust on both mirrors & all 3 lamps in bedroom 3. The balcony hadn’t been swept for a long time & was covered in leaves, cobwebs & dust. There was dirt on the hob, a dirty bread bin & dirty marks on the shelves in the fridge . The downstairs wc was filthy & badly stained. Something that could have been rectified by a proper cleaning process & bleach. I took photos & videos of everything All of these things could be easily addressed if a best practice cleaning schedule is put in place. I certainly don’t expect to pay to stay in a property & have to start cleaning it myself. Maintenance: I advised the maintenance company of the problem with the front door. The window in bedroom 2 was open when we arrived (room was cold) & once shut it was a problem to open. Again it was reported. Hanging rail in front cupboard near the door is loose so needs fixing. There is a flashing bulb in the room on the top floor. Positives : We loved the property, the location & layout- it was ideal for our party of 6. As it was a special occasion we were disappointed that there were things that so easily could have been prevented & I would suggest a proper checklist is put in place to avoid others experiencing the same issues. I don’t live in such uncleanliness at home so do not expect to pay for a property & experience it. Would we stay again - yes if guarantees of cleanliness were in place. We ensured we left the property in an immaculate condition & I took videos of every room before leaving. I would like a response to my feedback & would appreciate a call.
