Honister Cottage

We loved the position of Honister cottage and the view was amazing.

However, we were disappointed with a few things. The property wasn't as clean as we'd have liked, especially in terms of dust, and did smell a little damp. There were no instructions on how the heating worked or what time it was set to come on. There was no thermostat and we turned up each radiator individually but felt this should have been explained. The upstairs bedroom window handle was rather loose, the bed upstairs had a ridge in the middle and the settee was rather uncomfortable. We did enjoy our stay on the whole but wouldn't book again.

Disappointing second visit,felt standards had slipped,several issues which weren’t the eowners fault but the cleaning companies.

1) fingernail on bed side chest,2)no key to open bedroom window.3)2 bath ,2 hand towels insufficient for 2 weeks holiday.4)general cleanliness not brilliant,cobwebs under and over the fire and they’d been there for quite a while.There were several other things which could easily be rectified.We would seriously think twice about going back which is a shame as it is a lovely little cottage in a good location.

Great cottage, great location, we had a fabulous week with the bonus of the eclipse and meteor shower.

Honister Cottage is delightful.

It is clearly a much loved property, with a great deal of thought having gone into what makes a comfortable holiday home. It was cosy, well maintained and well equipped, all in a delightful setting with wonderful views. Parking is right outside the front door, there’s a useful porch for walking shoes, all mod cons, as well as the choice of a drinkers’s pub in the village or a gourmet inn a short walk away. It’s also conveniently situated; close to many attractions, yet away from the crowds. We would happily return.

The accommodation was great,good location and quiet,but going forward modernisation is key,there was no smart TV,so no netflix, no amazon prime and no air fryer,these are all part of a modern home now so I feel your cottages should have these facilities for the price we pay

Another wonderful week at Honister.

Everything you need for a comfortable week. Comfy beds and well equipped kitchen. Lounge with great views and because the weather was perfect every evening out on the patio. Pub was within a short walk for hearty meals and the bus stop ideal for trips out. What more could we want. Booked again for October.

We spent a week at Honister Cottage.

Everything was very clean and the kitchen was well-equipped. We felt comfortable from the start and almost at home. Thanks to its convenient location, we were able to do a lot in the surrounding area.

Cottage very clean and comfortable. Lovely walk both to pub/restaurant just five minutes away which did lovely meals as was walk to Hawkshead about two miles away - bluebells were in full bloom and were a delight to see. Would recommend.

This was a pleasant, well-equipped, spacious cottage with lovely views from the living room.

The peaceful situation and restful decor made for a very relaxing stay.

My friend and I stayed in Hinistercottage for a week.

She is from Scotland and myself from Lancashire. It was nice when we walked in and were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness. The wildlife was great to see. We had a syoat visit us and some voles. Lovely views from the window and bus stop close by. No shop as advertised nearby but a great pub. The food we had wasn't brilliant though.Loved the place overall, however it did lack lack a welcome pack so no milk, tea coffee sugar after a long drive. Which everyone would love. Also the window in the upstairs bedroom needs sorting as it let the wind in. And the bed upstairs was not comfy for one person. There seemed to be some kind of ridge in the middle which had you at a slant so not good for sleep. We would definitely return again and all the better if the few issues were sorted..

Lovely property,everything you needed for a pleasant stay,A little tired in places and perhaps a better information pack required .

Very cosy especially when it was wet outside.Pub a short walk and a good bus service to Coniston and Ambleside.Would recommend a bath mat in the en suite.Wouldn’t hesitate to go back in fact looking for next year now.

This was our second stay at Honister which is a lovely comfortable cottage in a good location for the Langdales and Ambleside.

We were somewhat surprised at the lack of basic cleaning materials, not even a dishcloth was provided. Also what has happened to a welcome basket , not even a pint of milk in the fridge or a teabag to welcome us after a very long drive!

Very comfortable cottage.

Warm and cosy with nice view. Pleasure to stay in when rain stopped play. Good location to visit plenty of Lake District gems. Would like to visit again.

Another wonderful week at Honister cottage.

Warm and very comfortable. Pub is open just down the road with good pub food and a friendly welcome. Bus stop close by so travel around the Lakes very easy and convenient. I have booked again and can’t wait to return. Highly recommended for a great holiday. Rev. Idris Vaughan

We love staying at Honister Cottage.

A lovely cosy and clean cottage based in Outgate. It is close to a pub and bus stop with secure off road parking. Walking routes close by and the lovely scenery from the windows an added bonus.

Lovely cottage with great views.

Bus stop 2 minutes walk away and we used it nearly every day to get around without having to use the car, a real bonus. Used free bus journeys to Ambleside, Grasmere, Kendal and Keswick. Plenty of lovely walks close by that weren’t too strenuous. Disappointed that there were no “extras”. Empty tea and coffee canisters, not sure why they were even there. A welcoming pint of milk would have been a nice touch. Would recommend staying at Honister cottage.

For us Honister Cottage is perfect in location, size and amenities.

So much so, we have already booked for Easter 2026!

I have stayed at Honister many times and love the cottage and it is always very comfortable and well equipped.

Any problem is dealt with swiftly. It is very convenient for buses to all of Lakeland and the pub 5 minutes walk away is very friendly with delicious food. I would recommend Honister for a wonderful stay in the Lakes. I have booked again for October! Rev. Idris Vaughan

An immaculate property in a beautiful setting.

Really well equipped and comfortable as well as spacious. The views and the wildlife in the garden was stunning! 50 yard stroll to the local pub which serves good food. Great location for exploring a wide area.

No welcome pack a problem with there being no local shops.

Another wonderful stay in Honister and already booked again for next year!

The cottage is ideally placed for walks in the countryside. Pub has re-opened and a wonderful meal there. Bus stop five minutes away so rides into Coniston, Ambleside with links to Grasmere and Windermere. The cottage is warm and VERY comfortable. There were cobwebs everywhere, as if the place has been empty for weeks.

Downstairs bedroom smelled damp, bathroom had spiders and a worm in the bath. Overall cleanliness could be improved.

The cleanliness of the cottage was disappointing, on arrival we found that all sinks and toilets required cleaning.

There were cobwebs all round which we cleaned some of them but it looked as though there had not been any proper cleaning for some time.

Another wonderful week at Honister cottage.

Comfortable and clean with good facilities. Two en suite bedrooms are perfect for a stay with friends. No queuing for the bathroom! Showers in both and a bath in one if you want a good soak after an energetic walk! Easy pleasant footpath to Hakeshead and a regular bus back to Outgate. I saw some work being done on the pub so who knows it may re-open Already booked for October

Spacious cottage with comfy beds.

It is nestled in a group of other cottages with wonderful views out the front. Welcome pack containing dishwasher tablets was nice but would have liked some washing up liquid and condiments. The washer dryer did not work very well - took ages to dry anything. Local pub is shut but the Drunken Duck with amazing views is a short drive. We liked the location and no noise from neighbours.

A lovely cottage, warm and comfortable and tastefully furnished.

Ideal for adults with a car (nearest pub/ shop/ restaurant 2 miles). Enjoyed the views from the little terrace, the shared garden was pleasant but very steep.

A wonderful stay yet again at Honister cottage.

Warm and welcoming. Two en suite bedrooms, a comfortable lounge with great views, a well equipped kitchen and spacious dining area. Sadly local pub closed but hopefully will re- open. Buses at the bottom of the road run to Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside and Coniston so very convenient. Have already booked for next year. Thank you. Rev Idris Vaughan

Yet again e we had a great stay in honister cottage it has to be our favourite one setting location and cottage it self fantastic we are going back .

Also just a quick note to the cleaner who cleaned cottage on are arrival was excellent

I WAS DISAPOINTED TO HAVE TRAVELLED 6 HOURS AND NOT EVEN A PINT OF MILK IN THE FRIDGE!

WHEN WE ENTERED THE PROPERTY WE WERE MET WITH A REALLY FUSTY SMELL WHICH WE NOTICED STAINED CEILINGS IN BOTH DINING ROOM AND KITCHEN WHICH WAS VERY OFF PUTTING AND NOT WELCOMING. WE JUST DIDNT GET THE FEEL FOR THE PROPERTY WHICH WAS A SHAME - JUST TO REMOTE FOR US AND THE PUB BEING CLOSED DIDNT HELP EITHER. WE CAME HOME EARLY ON TUESDAY.

Overall a lovely property in a great location.

However, there are some areas that need some maintenance. The kitchen ceiling has clearly suffered water damage and the artex is actually looking as though it is likely to come away in the area as you enter the kitchen. It looks as though there is possibly some water seeping through. The ceiling halfway down the stairs is showing signs of damp. although this was there last year. Some paint would improve it. Finally, why has the ability to use the catch up feature on the Sky box been disabled, It worked fine in October. We were most disappointed about that (even worse it took several chats with your help desk to find out that that was the problem)

Our fourth visit to Honister Cottage.

We have booked again for next year. Perfect property for us and the added bonus of lovely views and privacy. Nice pub nearby does good food and walks on the doorstep. Near a bus stop so can get about without the need to always take the car.

A fantastic holiday in a lovely cottage(couldn't fault it , in anyway)with marvelous views including Latterbarrow.

I was born near here many years ago and it was a pleasure to go back.

Cottage is comfortable but needs updating.

WiFi is very patchy!! And also needs updating. Otherwise we love the cottage and it's location. We probably will not go again until the above has been rectified.

Honister is a lovely cottage far better then the very good you list its more like excellent.

Had a lovely say with fabulous views only one downside weather was awful.

.what a welcoming sight....The views were amazing and everyday we opened the curtains in the lounge it was still gorgeous to look at ...the cottage was perfect in everyway possible... Everything we wanted was there...we could not fault it in anyway at all...we will be definitely booking again here ..A beautiful place to stay...and as always the Lake District did not disappear....so many places to visit and hawkhead is only 2 and Half miles away ..

Very comfy bed, we both slept well. We liked the property and location so much we have just booked it again!

The property was beautifully located for a peaceful stay.

It had everything we could wish for in terms of facilities.The welcome packs for cleaning and tea and coffee were useful. Lovely to have a bath and a shower available for use. Unfortunate that you were not able to recycle.I took my bottles and cardboard down to the pub car park rather than put them in with the general rubbish.

Think it should be mentioned that downstairs bedroom is very small.

Ideal location for walks into Hawkshead and beyond. Bus stop and great pub nearby ticks all our boxes and secure parking. Enjoyed it so much we have rebooked another week in October.

We love Honister cottage just had a great week it is the third time there love it we will be back 2022

This is our second visit to Honister cottage and we can’t wait to visit again.

The location is so lovely and peaceful yet only a very short walk from the Outgate Inn (which serves food) and a short drive from Ambleside.The village of Hawkshead.is a delightful 35/40 min walk from the cottage. The cottage itself is well furnished ,well equipped,comfortable and clean. We have no hesitation in recommending this property.

We had a great stay- the cottage is very well placed for several walks from the doorstep.

We especially loved Tarn Hows, a stunning 3 mile walk away. There is a bus stop with a hourly service at the end of the road and we enjoyed the Outgate Inn and a drink at the Drunken Duck. The accommodation itself is spacious and light and we appreciated the washing machine! Comfortable beds and excellent showers. All in all thoroughly recommended as a base to explore this fabulous part of the world.

The description of the cottage was optimistic in some respects.

However in all important respects it was excellent.

We love this cottage and have stayed here 3 times now.

I would like to tell you that the guttering outside the kitchen window is leaking very badly from a joint and is likely to cause rising damp. The freezer door is very difficult to open and the kitchen ceiling is badly cracked and likely to start coming off soon. Please accept this as helpful information as we love this cottage and want to see it maintained to its previous high standard. We had a lovely week and walked miles. The pub is just at the end of the road and good for pub grub and they are very friendly. All in all a great week.

We have stayed in this lovely cottage three times now & will stay there again, we love the location great for walkers, very quite, lovely views, we like the layout & decor, just wish it was ours.

Honister Cottage is compact, but beautifully furnished and appointed.

It is warm and cosy and equipped with everything you could possibly want. The wood burning stove in the sitting room is run on gas, which we hadn’t realised, so we didn’t need the logs we had brought from home, but it was a lovely feature to enjoy and provided instant heat on top of the very efficient central heating. Both the bathrooms were lovely with excellent showers. The location of the cottage is very good, and the pub, just a hundred yards down the road would be another asset, had it not had to close its doors due to the pandemic. The views from the front windows were lovely and we did not feel overlooked at all by the neighbouring properties. The two bedrooms are quite small, but the beds were very comfortable. It was a bonus that the second bedroom, whilst specified for only one person, actually had a double bed. Unfortunately we can to cut our holiday short, due to the region going from tier 2 to tier 4 midway through our stay, but the owner gave us a refund for the unused nights. Honister cottage has lots to commend it, and is ideal for a couple who like a beautiful quiet environment with lots of walks out from the front door, and many places to visit by car, when the pandemic restrictions are lifted.
