“A great week staying over Xmas as the property provides loads of room for the family especially our nearly two year old grandson Arlo and the two dogs Milo and Ted.”
We had contacted Sykes before our stay to check there would be a Christmas tree, which they confirmed the owner said there would be and it looked great when we arrived along with a few other decorations. The house is great for quick access to Cartmel and fantastic pubs like the Cavendish Arms one of the best Sunday dinners you will get. Good walks on your door step without needing the car which was great on boxing’s day to get out as a family.
Unfortunately some issues that still haven’t been addressed by the owners despite other guests reviews advising them and that we mention previously after our last visit:
- Having previously stayed at the this property in June, where we gave feedback about cleanliness, floors were better this time but cobwebs are still an issue throughout and some of the windows and doors especially the door at the back need a good clean outside.
- When we stripped the beds all the mattress protectors had stains on and some pillows protectors too. They need deep cleaning or replacing!
- One lamp in lounge is broken on the neck and has been taped, goes off when you touch, really needs fixing correctly by an electrician or binning as not safe.
- Heating locked so could not adjust and at times each day was very cold given the temperatures in late December, especially with a 2 year old. (Reviews show previous customers have complained at about the same issue)
- Not enough glasses or champagne flutes for 6 people at Xmas this was a real disappointment and annoying. Only 4 flutes and 3 glasses for 6 adults!
Overall we would stay here again, however we feel the owners do need to address the issues guest are raising and ensure who ever is looking after these properties for them, cares as much as I’m sure they do about their property.

For the heating, we now provide both a contact number and WhatsApp so guests can have it adjusted remotely, as everyone has different comfort levels.
