“Beautiful property, and an even more beautiful location, the views are lovely from the seating area at the top outside in the garden.”

We were fortunate enough at the beginning of October to have a day if beautiful sunshine and warmth to experience it. The hot tub is very nice and well kept, underfloor heating in the bathroom is a nice touch, and the log burner in the sitting room is amazing to snuggle up in front of. The facilities are great, nice kitchen and everything you will need is there. The walks in the local area are great, but Elterwater by far is an amazing day out, so much to see and take in, beautiful ...

The facilities are great, nice kitchen and everything you will need is there. The walks in the local area are great, but Elterwater by far is an amazing day out, so much to see and take in, beautiful landscape. Be sure to read the helpful information book in the lodge, it contains lots of useful information on where to eat and the different walks and locations of amenities. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to book. We will be back in the future to enjoy it again. Thank you

“It was a lovely cottage and the views outside the cottage were stunning.”

The only thing tjat was dissappointing was tje shower which wasn't very hot more like warm even though we boosted the hot water gauge. The other thing was the hot water from the kitchen sink which didn't come out of the tap very well it just ki d of dripped. I did get in touch with the landlord Ian who was very helpful but I think it was due to the pressure in the area as the cottage is remote. Loved the hot tub after long walks! The log fire was a bonus too!

“This was our second visit to the Lodge as we love the accommodation and the area.”

It is a lovely, peaceful location and has everything you need including a comfy bed. We really appreciated the wine, milk and little touches like the complementary toiletries (there is always something I forget). The hot tub is wonderful and is really the icing on the cake. “Lovely cottage, sadly situated on a main road way to a large caravan park, frequented by many walkers with dogs and caravaners, cottage appliances noisy (freezer crackles in night, radiators that popped, up stairs water tank which is very nosey 3.”

00am onwards, which woke us up). Log burner been made up for our use, but no facilities to light it. Hot water pressure in the kitchen was very poor. Otherwise the facilities where sufficient, jacuzzi was amazing, stunning views.

Thank you for your feedback and your positive comments about our lovely cottage, hot tub and stunning views. Context for reviews is always important – we sit at the end of a long single track road (500m) to Black Beck Caravan Park (Butlins it is not) – a very small number of people have previously commented about this both negatively and positively, but the vast majority of reviews make no mention of it. We always encourage our guests to reach out if there are any problems/ irritations with The Lodge whilst you are there. Unfortunately as you did not reach out to us I could not point you in the direction of the timer and off switch for the Immersion Heater (hot water), ensure the pump was turned on that increases water pressure in the kitchen, point out that matches can be used to light a log burner and help you in identifying an appliance that went “Snap” so you could have a full suite of “Snap Crackle & Pop”. “We have just had the most relaxing stay at this beautiful cottage.”

We had everything we needed and more. The bed, although a standard double was comfy and clean. The hot tub was an absolute game changer. This wasn’t something that we’d normally be looking for but wow, it was amazing to come back to after a walk. The dog enjoyed it too with plenty of room for him to mooch and with so many lovely walks from the door step, he’s had a fab time. Although he was plagued by ticks from the grassy fields so be prepared for tick season. I was concerned by some previous comments regarding the lane to the caravan park going past the cottage but this was not an issue at all. All in all, this is a beautiful home that has everything you need for a relaxing break. We will certainly be there again.

Great new bathroom with a walk in shower and under floor heating. The whole Lodge is excellent and a real delight to visit. The hot tub was incredible to relax in after a days walking. We will definitely be returning and would recommend this location to friends. The owners were easy to contact should there be an issue. 10/10 on all scoring.

“What a treat this beautiful little cottage was!”

This was our first little holiday away together as a couple and it was SO perfect! Set in the beautiful countryside, it was clean, modern but still had a lovely cottagey feel.. a lovely big squidgy sofa in front of log burner which we fired up every night, beautifully comfy bed, and a lovely warm bubbly hot tub to come home to and stargaze after a day out hiking.. The kitchen was clean, stylish and fully kitted out with everything we needed, including a dishwasher (who wants to wash up on holiday!) and washing machine. The bathroom had underfloor heating which was ideal for getting towels dry after hot-tubbing, and a lovely big shower.. All bedding, towels, and complimentary toiletries are included and there was even a welcome bottle of wine and a box of local fudge waiting on our arrival.. The whole cottage is beautifully decorated and looks amazing inside and out.. We thoroughly loved our stay and would come back in a heartbeat.. The owners were lovely and very helpful and easy to contact if needed.. This cottage is a firm 10/10 and we would highly recommend it.. ❤️❤️❤️

“What a fabulous little gem to find!”

With such an amazing location and great access to anything we needed. The log/coal fire in the evenings with a movie on will be hard to beat! The hot tub.... well that's in a world of its own, after a long day hiking that was just brilliant. We also discovered the pie and pint night at the White Hart (local pub) one of the best pies I've ever had hands down! I also cant leave out the fabulous Sunday roast at The Swan in Newby Bridge. All in all, this stay was exactly what we needed to relax and reset ourselves and we will definitely be returning in the future! Thank you for an amazing stay away.

“We stayed at The Lodge for Christmas week and were also incredibly lucky to have beautiful weather which really showed off the views from the accommodation.”

We found the heating system a little noisy in the morning but ear plugs would work for light sleepers. Having said that the cottage was lovely and warm which made it very cosy. Also the fire place and hot tub were big selling points for me when looking for a place to stay, and they did not disappoint especially after lots of walking and making it festive for Xmas eve and Xmas day night. Our final night the sky was completely clear and we could see all the stars whilst relaxing in the hot tub which was a great way to end our stay. The kitchen is so well equipped and I was even able to make a full Christmas dinner for us both which I was nervous about in a kitchen that wasn't my own, but it had everything we needed. The cottage was really clean and felt modern, yet in keeping with the Lake District charm. I'd certainly recommend it to friends and family and would stay again. It was in a nice quiet location, yet a short drive from all things we needed. Many thanks for all the small touches too. We loved our stay and it contributed to a wonderful, calm Christmas. “This accommodation was absolutely perfect!”

! It had the best equipped kitchen I've ever seen at a cottage. The hottub was ready to use and the couch was super comfy. An ice cube tray was the only thing we missed, but we managed to find some ice cubes at the shop at the holiday park down the road. We would love to come back :)

“Just enjoyed a fabulous week at The Lodge.”

The accommodation is clean and well looked after. Also the reassurance of knowing the owner is happy to be contacted in case of any problems. The hot tub was great after a day out walking, not overlooked so no trunks no problem! I recommend a visit to The White Hart, nice ale and great food. If you're returning after dark a torch and some high visibility clothing is a good idea. Fond memories.

we love its location and the single level open plan accommodation. the hot tub is a definite plus point but the garden isn't the most dog friendly. it's safe but not ideal for a quick toilet trip in the morning or if your dog needs to go in the night. the lodge is well equipped and comfortable but the shower is not hot enough even on the highest setting. overall very nice place

“We have just spent a week at The Lodge and it was absolutely fantastic.”

It was so spacious, clean and everything was there to accommodate our stay, with many added extras and touches. The area was great for lovely walks with our dog right on our doorstep also with nothing being to far away when exploring and visiting places, everyone we met was friendly and polite. The mobile fish and chip visit on a Saturday at Black Beck was a nice treat for a chippy tea! Waking up and having our coffee on the outdoor seating area with breath-taking views and gorgeous sunshine was lovely as was seeing the butterflies on the bush the cattle in the fields also the farmer bailing. Great communication & welcome pack with milk and wine in the fridge which was appreciated. At the end of our busy days and visiting places of interest the hot tub was an added bonus to relax in and enjoy. I have never slept so well which boosted my well being whilst being able to enjoy the fresh air, relax and enjoy this holiday. Thank you so much for a wonderful and delightful 5 star stay. “We loved our stay at The Lodge.”

When we first arrived everything was lovely and clean plus the welcome pack of milk and wine was appreciated. Overall it is well equipped and placed in a beautiful part of the world. We found lots of lovely, level walks on our doorstep which our elderly cocker spaniel loved. Plus it is a great base to check out other attractions in the area. The hot tub is the icing on the cake, lovely to relax in with a glass of wine. Plus it is well maintained. If, like us, you are looking for peace and quiet, love birds and wildlife and looking to get away from it all then this is the place for you. We cannot thank the owners enough for sharing this gem with us. We liked it so much that we have already booked for next year!

“We had a lovely weeks stay at the Lodge, and on first entering the cottage, we couldn't fault it, but as we got more settled in the cracks started to appear, the hot water tap in the kitchen was an absolute pain, if you put it on full the water stopped coming out, so you could only open it slightly, it was quicker to boil a kettle, the internet wasn't really usable, it was very intermittent and streaming was a no go, the double bed was tiny, and we aren't large people, I slept on the sofa a couple of nights, and lastly, I tried to puff the pillows up on the sofa and the amount of dust that came out gave me an asthma attack, I would like to return but if these things are fixed, for the amount of money you pay, I would have hoped there wouldn't have been any of these faults.”

Hi Mandy, Really glad you had a lovely weeks stay at the Lodge. I encourage guests to get in touch with me in the welcome email I send, and during their stay. Its pointless allowing things to spoil your break if there are any problems which can be resolved whilst you are there. If cracks exist that are worthy of mention in this feedback then I would have hoped that you would have contacted me during your stay, however I’ve had no contact from you between the welcome email on 12 March and today (7 April). In terms of the points let me take them in turn: • The property is an old cottage and there can be some problems with hot water pressure. That is why we have pumps on the hot taps in the bathroom (which I assume you had no issue with because its not mentioned) and kitchen. If you had contacted me I could have ascertained whether the pump was actually turned on and/ or whether we needed a plumber. • Unfortunately the property does not have fibre as this is the Lake District and its not yet available to this location. The broadband/ WiFi connection is the best we can get and is usually good for streaming to laptop/ phone but not as good to TV. • The double bed is a standard double bed (as listed in the property listing) – 4 feet 6 inches by 6 feet 3 inches. • The sofa is regularly steam cleaned by a professional cleaning company – this includes all cushions. It was subject to a recent clean within the last 3 months. We would love to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

“Myself and husband came to stay stay at the lodge to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary this weekend.”

The lodge was located in a beautiful area, nice and tucked out of the way and we woke to beautiful views (& sheep) every morning! We was fairly close by to alot of attractions and only a minute drive from lake Windermere. The cottage itself was lovely, had everything you could need for your stay. The only thing I would say it’s that there could have been a few more fire logs for the fire for an evening as we had to limit it them to make them last for our stay. Lots of memories made and our dog loved it too! Overall our stay was very pleasant and the location of the cottage was perfect for us and we very much enjoyed our time there. Also great touch having a list of recommendations of places to visit

As in the welcome pack it was stated that there would be a visit on a Monday and Friday morning to check the hot tub unfortunately nobody came on Monday morning whilst we were there by Wednesday we felt restricted by the amount of water in the hot tub although it didn't stop working for us,also the views were amazing and walks around the lanes were quite breath taking

We encourage all our guests to get in touch with us throughout their stay if they are having any issues with the property and therefore its disappointing you didn't contact us during your stay as any issue about the level of water in the hot tub could have been easily resolved. I checked with the Hot Tub company we use to maintain the tub and they confirm they did attend on the Monday morning - presumably after you had gone out, they also confirmed when they revisited on the Friday that the water level was not unusually low. “This is our 4th stay at The Lodge and again it was a lovely stay.”

Overall we have no complaints as everything is as described and will certainly be back. However, there was an issue with the pressure of the hot water in the kitchen and that needs addressing. The bedding was lovely clean and fresh but the throw at the end of the bed could maybe do with a freshen up as it had a smell of dog. Overall we had a lovely stay and would always highly recommend the lodge as it’s beautiful and great base to explore the Lakes.

“We had a lovely short break at The Lodge.”

Very clean and well equipped and the owners were responsive to our queries. There is an entrance to a caravan park adjacent with some passing cars as mentioned in other reviews, but that did not bother us. We appreciated the proximity to local towns and villages whilst also feeling like it was an escape from hustle and bustle. There are a few nice walks on the doorstep and we enjoyed watching the sheep from the kitchen window waiting for the kettle to boil. The log fire was lovely and the hot tub is a bonus after long day out walking and exploring. We are used to a super-king bed and this was only a double - one night I slept on the sofa to have a bit more room but that was the night my Garmin gave me an 'excellent' sleep score so I can vouch that the sofa was comfortable too!

“Lovely little lodge with everything needed for a cosy romantic break, nice modern and spacious bathroom, bedroom was cosy and we slept well, kitchen and lounge area has high ceilings and some nice little touches throughout, the chess set and range of games were a nice y and the log burner was lovely to use on a cold night in January and the mezzanine was nice little extra surprise.”

Didn’t get to use the hot tub due to the awful weather but would have been a welcome luxury after a hard days climbing. The stars on a night were awesome, will definitely be returning!

“Lovely comfortable cottage, well equipped with all the kitchen equipment you would need, plenty of towels too.”

Logs were provided for the fire aswel as coal if needed but could do with something better than cigarette lighters to light it, like a safety gas lighter. Hot tub was great but could do with some kind of overhead cover so it's useable when raining. On the down side the economy 7 water heating was very noisy during the early hours of the morning and the hot water pressure was very low and we only managed a small trickle of water from the hot tap in the bathroom. I would advise to take torches as we had a power cut for one and have hours on one night and the neighbouring cottage said it was very common and always happens. Short walk to the White Heart pub which is worth a visit and lots of other places to visit nearby.

I’m glad you enjoyed your stay at the Lodge. We agree with you that the Lodge is a lovely well-equipped, well-located holiday cottage. I am glad you were able to make use of the plentiful supply of logs and coal for the log burner which are provided at no additional cost to all guests. As regards the cover for the hot tub we prefer guests to have an uninterrupted view of the night sky and find that the experience of the hot tub in the rain is one to be enjoyed (given that only your head is not under 39C water). I am sorry about your issue with the water heater, which could have been remedied by a call to me or simply switching it to come on during the day when you were out. Finally on the water pressure we were experiencing some issues with this during your stay, however these have been resolved by the recent refurbishment of the bathroom which has resulted in a new large walk-in shower, new underfloor heating and new vanity unit Property Owner

“The property was warm, but lacked comfortable chair or sofa.”

The existing sofa was a bit grubby and smelly. However the rest of the property was generally in good order. We could not open the top drawer on the freezer because it was iced up. The passing traffic entering and exiting the caravan park can be a bit loud. However the stand out feature is the hot tub, which more than balanced out, any negatives.

Thank you for bringing to our attention the issue with the freezer top drawer - however there are three other large drawers in the freezer which should have been more than sufficient for your requirements. I am sorry that you found the corner, well upholstered, sofa uncomfortable and grubby. We regularly have the sofa professionally steam cleaned and have not previously had any comments about comfort. Sofas can be very like beds in that its very much a personal preference about what is comfortable and what is not. Property Owner

enjoyed walks directly from the cottage and is a good base to explore windermere, Ambleside and our favourite, grasmere. we would also recommend roanhead if you like a good dog friendly beach. the local pub is friendly and we can recommend the Sunday dinner which is served both lunch and evening. the hot tub was a welcomed addition after long walks the only slight niggle was being at the entrance to the caravan park. we always search for isolated cottages which this was listed as such. it is isolated but traffic in and out of the caravan park detracted from that a bit. didn't spoil anything though. we would definitely use again

The lodge has everything you need for a comfortable stay and the hot tub and log burning stove were perfect after a day exploring. Despite the fact we stayed in January I would have liked to have a table and chairs in the garden outside to sit and enjoy the views and read but it didn't take away from our experience which was 5 star ⭐ we will definitely book again. Beautiful location for nice walks. Down side was the Internet connection was poor and kept cutting out during our stay, streaming films on the TV was interrupted and mobiles kept loosing connection, we had no mobile service in the area so relied on it to contact relatives when in the property, the central heating wasn't quite enough given we came this time of year and it reached -8 at one point, we didn't have control of the central heating but could do boosts with the electric heaters and fire once I practiced how to use it lol, the hot tube wasn't at temperature for the first night but got to use for the rest of the week with no issue, good communication with the owners who were helpful and prompt, overall lovely property just got caught out with the cold and snowy weather

Only 2 minor gripes, the patio set atop the stairs in the garden was rusty, broken and unusable. Also the mop and bucket were stored damp in the closet, creating a mildew smell within the bedroom on arrival, this was easily fixed by placing it outside, a small point but important for first impressions. Overall a comfortable, enjoyable, problem free stay, hotub was fantastic.

The cottage was spotlessly clean and very warm. The kitchen is very well equipped so you can cook full meals ... if you want to! Loved the personal touches of wine, milk, and toiletries. We did 4 of the walks in the visitors book as well as a few of our own, including Hellvelyn! We arrived in a storm then had another during our stay which affected the areas power supply, including the cottage , the owner could not have been any more helpful, keeping us updated on information as to when the power would be reconnected, a lovely gentleman who lives behind the cottage also checked on us as did the man who cleaned the hot tub! We had a perfect stay and will definitely return for a 3rd visit!

Absolutely stunning accommodation which was far better in the flesh than online. Beautifully positioned in an amazing landscape you couldn't ask for more. There is also a good mezzanine area for storage. Hot tub and outdoor area were an absolute delight with stunning views from outdoor table. Think worth making it clear there is a small but well used road that leads to the caravan park, it wasn’t an issue for us and was lovely and quiet at night but quite busy in day. Double bed quite small so very little room to move about and shower door was rather fragile, often coming off it’s runners, again not a big issue but may bother some. Garden could do with a little TLC but we don’t mind the natural look. Overall a lovely relaxing place to stay

The Lodge was extremely clean and very well equipped, there was even milk in the fridge and a complimentary bottle of wine. The hot tub was just gorgeous after a long day exploring! We enjoyed the location as we were able to get out and walk with our dog through the countryside, there was a pub within walking distance and even an ice cream farm in the village, although we did drive to that. Our only slight annoyance was that the road that runs past The Lodge leads up to a lovely caravan park, however the road can be quite busy and a little noisy first thing in the morning, but to be fair we soon got used to it. All in all, we had a fantastic holiday and we would visit The Lodge again.

“Lovely cottage on the southern side of the Lake District.”

The Cottage is decorated to a high standard, with a modern fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. The underfloor heating was nice and hot. Nice touch to have a pint of milk waiting for us (and a bottle of red wine). The hot tub was great and nice to sit on the decking having a coffee in the sun. The owners supplied plenty of towels, so you dont need to bring any. Tea towels, toilet role and kitchen cleaning stuff provided, which was a pleasant surprise. The only downside is the dog friendly approach. Not the owners fault, but clearly some customers have had their dogs on the settee. When we arrived it smelt very doggy for a few days. The rug in front was worse, so we removed it up onto the mezzanine area for the week. A few more coats hooks by the door would be useful. There is a cupboard in the bedroom containing the cleaning stuff, again it smelt so we removed the mop. Maybe having storage outside would be better and this could be converted into more storage space. I am being picky, but if you are not a dog person, this could ruin your week. Not the owners fault, so a message to all you other renters, please abide by the rules and make it 100% for all.

Right on the doorstep there is wildlife, sitting outside you can watch all manner of birds flying across the causeway. A short drive takes you to the lakes and mountains. However there are some fabulous walks right from the front door. The hottub was great after some of those long walks. Just to say the cattle grid was not an issue. Will be returning.

“We had a relatively enjoyable weekend.”

The accommodation was excellent and what we expected it to be. However, I have now come to realise that 'dogs welcome' does not necessarily mean 'dog friendly'. There was practically no outdoor space for our dog and what there was wasn't secure. There was constant traffic to and from the caravan site - which we knew nothing about until a week before the holiday - not only did the vehicles go back and forth over 2 cattle grids, it passed within 2 metres of the windows. 6 metres away was the passing road which was busy with cars travelling a minimum 30 mph and certainly many travelling a lot faster. Certainly not the secluded lodge we were led to believe it was. All said the weekend was okay, just not as relaxing as we thought it would be. Fairly it was between 'failed' and met our expectations.

It is absolutely beautiful there. The cottage is extremely comfortable, clean, spacious and cosy. We love walking and there are amazing walks on your doorstep! The hottub is great after a day of rambling and there is a small patio area in the back garden, which is lovely to sit upon and look at the beautiful surrounding hills. This time we got to take our dog with us and he loved it there just as much as we did! The White Hart pub is just a 10 minute walk away from the cottage and is lovely to sit outside with a drink, they also have seating to the rear of the of the pub. If you take a short drive to Greenodd, they do amazing fish and chips there that stay warm until you are back at the cottage. Hawkshead is one of favourite places in the Lake District, from here you can climb Latterbarrow, there are two routes up this hill, one is quite steep but the other is much easier but do take care. The views are beautiful when you get to the top. Be sure to also look at the walks in the guest book at the cottage - the owners have included some great ones in there! All in all, the owners of this cottage are great! Nothing is too much trouble and are always on hand to help. I can't imagine anyone not loving their stay here. We will certainly return again!

“First impressions were disappointing.”

On arrival the hot water supply was insufficient with a slow trickle out the tap which fortunately was recifyed by my husband as he is a plumber. There wasn't any firelighters or newspaper to light the log burner. The hot tub was luke warm. We informed the owner of our findings and we were informed that the water in the hot tub may have been changed and would increase in temperature over the next few hours, which is fair enough but it would have been useful to have be informed of this information. We felt our other concerns were disregarded. We eventually managed to light the log burner using some toilet paper! There wasn't any safety gloves available when using the log burner as specified so had to use an oven glove. The logs were detailed as being included in the rental and then were asked for a contribution to keep the log store asesthetically pleasing, when there was only one shelf partially full not all the shelves as seen in the photos.The cottage its self was comfortable and in a good location to visit the lakes but unfortunately these niggles over road the positives. We've stayed in several lodges but unfortunately this wasn't our best experience and for us it lacked any wow factor!

It would be perfect for couples with a dog. We took our 3 month old baby and a small dog found the layout a little difficult with putting the little one to bed as the back door (to hot tub and courtyard) is in the bedroom. We would definitely go back if we were childless. It is a gorgeously decorated place with everything you need and more. The couple who own it really do go the extra mile to make the stay comfortable and relaxing. 10 out of 10.

It was a beautiful building in a great location. The interior was spotless and had everything you could have asked for. The owners have thought of everything from fresh kitchen clothes, new towels and explained everything well in the welcome book. The TV had Netflix, Amazon and Now TV which was excellent. They had plenty of coal and wood for the fire and I agree that replacing some of the wood was a reasonable request. The hardest thing about being at the cottage was having to leave. We loved every minute and would like to thank the owners for their cottage and Sykes for arranging it. Will be back as soon as possible.

The property

Newby Bridge 4 miles.

This wonderful, stone-built detached cottage is located on the outskirts of the pretty village of Bouth, which has a traditional inn and is just four miles from Newby Bridge.

This contemporary holiday home boasts superb furnishings and is set in an ideal location for discovering the Lake District, as well as the charming villages of Cartmel and Grange-over-Sands.

The cottage boasts a stylish finish throughout and the cosy open plan living area has a woodburning stove.

There is a superb bathroom and a comfortable bedroom with a large window, views across the river to Gummer's How and an external door leading out to a secluded patio, with a hot tub and steps to an elevated decked area.

Settle outside on the elevated patio and admire the views, or simply sit back and enjoy the quiet location before taking a gentle walk into the village.

An abundance of walks and cycle routes are available right from the doorstep, whilst the Lake District fells, Grizedale Forest, Lake Windermere and Coniston Water are nearby.

Why not travel over to Cartmel and visit the shop where the original sticky toffee pudding is sold?

This charming village is also well known for its superb restaurants and pubs and of course, the ancient Priory.

A drive up the pretty Rusland Valley will take you to the quaint village of Hawkshead and to Hill Top, where Beatrix Potter lived and was inspired to write many of her charming tales.

From here you can also catch the car ferry and cruise across Lake Windermere to discover the vibrant lakeside towns of Bowness-on-Windemere and Ambleside.

The small village of Newby Bridge takes its name from the five arched stone bridge built in 1651 over the River Leven. The famous Furness Railway, one of Britain's oldest working standard gauge steam railways, runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge. Visit the Lakeside Hotels and enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or enjoy the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats, bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life. Bowness-on-Windermere provides a lovely day out, plus the picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, and admire the views at nearby Gummer's How.
