“In short, Greenstyles is a wonderful cottage.”

It's large, easily holding a busy family of four - gorgeous conservatory for reading the evenings away, big windows to sit and read in whilst watching the cows out the front or the boats on the lake out the back. Wonderfully laid out spaces and we were so very happy in our time there. Its really nicely maintained, clean and has an incredible view across its huge garden. If you could transport it away from that road its sat upon (where cars speed past day and night and make it dangerous for dogs) ...

If you could transport it away from that road its sat upon (where cars speed past day and night and make it dangerous for dogs) it would be dream home territory. But you do have to consider some points if you're coming with a small family or with a dog. More detailed response: The house itself is an old stone cottage that has been extended with a really really useful utility for wet things. You go in through this way from the driveway and it expands across the kitchen diner, then hallway and lounge. Leading to the conservatory. All tastefully maintains and decorated. A real credit to the owners. It has a beautifully huge, long garden on a steep bank that's perfect for kids to explore, but less so for dogs. The problem is that to the right of the garden is a drive way for the house at the bottom of the garden, of which I'm guessing is also a rental as they boomed music out at night and kept on leaving the gate to the main road open. (And no one who has ever lived in the countryside would do that). The un-secured garden (which would only need some chickenwire to be made safe btw) in the countryside would be less of an issue if the road wasn't a busy, fast one. Which is the biggest frustration with this house. It is ideal in pretty much every way bar the noise of the traffic that regularly speeds past at all times day and night. It means that you can't walk from the house anywhere really as it can be quite dangerous which is a shame. It could have just been because we came over bank holiday but from coming from farming stock - the kids that were driving at those speeds knew the roads so doubt that it would diminish once tourist season was over. The main roads its set upon means that, with no paths and walking (dodging) alongside those roads, there's no chance walking into Bowness. I took my life in my hands going for a run and won't be doing that again. So in short if you want a frankly incredible house with a stunning view in a location which is a short 5-10min drive too Bowness (and Ambleside with the ferry) - then this place is perfect. Oh and go for food to the Brown Horse inn a couple of miles away. Its superb.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Greenstyles so much and found the cottage to be spacious, beautifully maintained, and a comfortable retreat for your family. It’s wonderful to know the conservatory and garden added to your experience, and we’re especially pleased that the views and layout made your time there so memorable. Regarding the road traffic you experienced I can only assume that this was due to some sort of road closure and diversion during your visit. It is a B road and many guests have commented on the peace, quiet and tranquility of the location and having enjoyed walks from the door. Walkers, joggers and cyclists regularly pass our door. When staying we regularly walk to the excellent cafe at Blackwell and there are two nearby bridleways (300 and 450 yards from the cottage) giving access to the open country of Rosthwaite Heights opposite. Less than 200 yards down the road is a lane that gives an almost traffic free cycling and walking route to the ferry and Bowness Bay. We’ll work on providing more detailed information in the cottage to help guests navigate the area confidently. We appreciate your comments regarding the large garden and its suitability for dogs. While many guests have found it secure, subject to first checking that the gate to the driveway hasn’t been inadvertently left open, your suggestion about adding chicken wire in certain areas is very helpful and we’ll certainly look into this to improve peace of mind for future visitors. Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Feedback like yours is invaluable in helping us enhance the stay for future guests. We're so glad you enjoyed the house and the surrounding area, and we agree, the Brown Horse Inn is a fantastic recommendation! Property Owner
