I felt I had to put this in writing to you as we leave and head home at the end of our holiday.
We arrived at Columbine Cottage on Saturday, ready for a relaxing family break after a horrid few months, family bereavement and my long term illness. We wanted somewhere I could relax and recuperate. We have used Sykes cottages many times in the past and have never had any issues and as Lakelovers is part of the Sykes group we were confident in our booking.
Considering the current COVID regulations and your promise of enhanced cleaning we were so disappointed. The cottage itself is quaint, the bedding clean, however that's about as far as it goes, the cleanliness was much below par. I had to go out and buy cleaning products on arrival and spent 2 hours cleaning the best I could. , The tired, dated kitchen and equipment was such a let down. I brushed and cleaned the kitchen floor albeit not down the side of the units or cooker, they are still horrid, cleaned the worktops, the fridge, the toaster, and washed enough cutlery, plates and cups to use throughout our stay. The scissors were dirty, the knifes dirty in the knife block. The cooker was awful, the side of the units, fridge etc were full of dirt, crumbs and the top was thick dust, sticky and greasy. The bin lid was filthy dried on food waste, the mug tree is awful it really needs binning, the rusty dish rack, the chopping boards are not fit for purpose, I wouldn't of used these to prepare the dogs food let alone ours. We wiped the banister with anti-bac wipes they were filthy. The windowsills throughout the house dusty and not much hoovering had taken place. The lounge carpet has numerous stains and could do with a deep clean. The cushions (soft furnishings) were immediately put into a corner they were dirty and frayed. We did try to contact you however we were unable to get through and we decided to enjoy our holiday rather than complain as I the reason for our break was total rest and relaxation for me. The bathroom was grubby, slats missing of a bed, pillows were terrible. Luckily it was only on removing the bedding this morning it became clear how stained the pillows were. I am attaching just a couple of photographs for you.
It has impacted on our enjoyment and we feel that we should let you know the quality of cleanliness is way below par and that you can hopefully put this right for future guests.
We would be grateful to receive your comments, feedback and compensation in some way even just for refunding the cost of cleaning products. We look forward to hearing from you by return.
