Frazer “Lovely cottage very comfortable lovely location”
- Frazer, August 2024 -
Jan “Lovely location but should mention reversing down the road and parking in the listing and not waiting until you've booked, as this may be a problem for some.”
House itself was generally clean but very dated in some parts. Fridge and freezer extremely noisy, TV x 2 absolutely dreadful, need updating. Basic lack of everyday items usually available eg. salt, oil, cling film, foil, washing up liquid etc. Very poor welcome pack, a complimentary cleaning pack containing a cloth, scourer, 2 bin bags and 5 dishwasher tablets when no dishwasher available. Grubby saucepans had to be scrubbed before use. Grubby sofas, glad we took throws! Not really impressed but would guess lack of interest as it's up for sale. It was a hefty price and would expect better.

Alison “Even though we had a very bad week for weather, the holiday cottage couldn't be faulted.”
The location was excellent for touring around on buses, it was super clean and the beds were very comfortable. We cooked quite a bit and the kitchen contained everything we needed. I can't think of anything that was missing. It was very handy having 2 toilets. There was the small outside space which would be great for a meal outside whenever summer arrives! We would definitely stay there again if we were coming back to the Lakes, There is really no need to choose an alternative. Thank you.
- Alison, June 2024Amao “Beautiful cottage within easy of the high street.”
While it wasn’t too much of an issue, the provision of a shower mat for the bath would have been welcome for safety, plus there was a lot of condensation in the bathroom as extractor fan was inadequate. A little confused about the instruction to not take the dog on the park as there were many dogs, often off leads, running around said park. Once again not too much of an issue & certainly didn’t spoil our enjoyment of the cottage
- Amao, September 2023Mary “We use Gable lodge regularly and we love the location, the neighbours are also lovely.”
But there is still no dishwasher, we're used to that, so not too big an issue. But the TV has always been very bad sound quality, but now the old TV seems to have been replaced with the exact same model which is just as useless, very bad a sound quality. Come on Lakelovers come into the 21st century.
- Mary, September 2023Elise “The property is lovely and located well, the beds are unbelievably comfy, excellent nights sleep.”
However, on arrival the whole of the downstairs had a stifling smell of what smelled like cat wee. It hits as soon as you walk in. There are stains on one of the settees that look like wee stains. I had to burn incense and aromatherapy oils all week to cover the smell. The kitchen bin was 3/4 full and the bin outside was full, there were notes to empty the indoor bins but we couldn’t, as there was no room in the outside bin. All the pots and pans had to be washed before using, either dusty or grimey. Could have done with more toilet rolls and hand soap. Free view TV would be nice to have and a few logs in the basket would’ve been a nice touch too. Although it was comfy and clean upstairs, the smell downstairs and the lack of cleanliness downstairs was really not worth the money and disappointing really. It could be a lovely place but it’s a bit of a rip off price when basic things can’t be seen to prior to renting out.
- Elise, September 2023Mary “We always stay at Gable lodge when we are in Windermere because it is quiet and convenient to the towns amenities.”
The cottage itself has a lovely atmosphere and well furnished but some aspects need updating; the TV isn't great, there is no dishwasher, and the heating system and fridges are very noisy (leaking badly as well). The past two times we stayed the bathroom sink has been blocked and extra bedding stored in the wardrobe wasn't clean. Minor issues are usually put right quickly with a call to Lakelovers. Overall we enjoyed out stay.

King “Perfectly located within walking distance from shops, restaurants and walks.”
Lovely comfortable rooms with comfortable beds. The spare small room upstairs was perfect for the baby to stay in the travel cot. The living room could be a little cosier with a bit of colour perhaps but it was great for our family. The children often sat at the small table colouring whilst we used the sofas. The only thing that I would say would have been helpful would have been to supply firewood/matches/lighter or to let us know where to get firewood from as we spent the first 2 days trying to find this. The heating was however very efficient. Overall a lovely stay
- King, October 2022Claire “Brilliant break away at Gable lodge.”
It was very Clean, well equipped and in a fantastic location in Windermere. If I were to be picky, I’d say the tv could be bigger and have more channels or smart tv. Though this is nit picking. Also a welcome hamper would have given it an extra welcoming touch. Other than that, lovely cottage, fab location, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Claire, October 2022Lesley “Lovely comfortable cottage, like home from home.”
Would definitely stay again. Just noticed a couple of things, a new toaster as the present one only toasts the bread on one side and also maybe a clothes airer for drying washing.
- Lesley, June 2022Andrew “Our stay exceeded our expectations.”
Central location in Windermere giving easy access to transport links. The lodge is well equipped and my only negative would be the toaster, which has been reported before only toasts on one side but honestly this is the only negative in a lovely lodge.
- Andrew, May 2022Mary “We love Gable Lodge and have stayed there twice.”
It has a lovely homely feel (even the neighbours are lovely) and this time we even stayed for an extra five days - almost three weeks! The downside is the lack of a dishwasher. It is also very low on wine glasses (only one good one this time) and the mattresses aren't brilliant. Other than that we love staying there and didn't want to leave!!!
- Mary, May 2022David “Great place to stay and lovely neighbours.”
Very central yet amazingly quiet. The only thing that could improve the property is a dishwasher.
- David, May 2022Samantha “I would love to write a glowing report but it’s just not possible.”
The location is amazing and so handy, annoyingly the end of the road was blocked off so reversing down the narrow drive was ‘interesting’ The house itself was really well equipped although the two slice toaster is still there and only heating on one side. Pretty sure it wouldn’t pass PAT testing! I would take an oven glove too as there wasn’t one provided. The hot water for the bath needs to be looked at as you had to turn the tap to a slow speed to get any hot out. The taps in the kitchen were hotter. The heating system clunks and bangs in the main bedroom with the smaller room left freezing as it has a tiny radiator under the window. The draft from the other end of the room kept my son awake as he was so cold and the bed is located under a window far from the radiator. To be noted the duvets and pillows are all feather. I asked for replacement pillows and they were provided the same day by the letting agent. The bathroom, it’s worse than freezing as it’s only got a towel rail and appears to be an extension off the back of the property. The bath is tiny and the water luke warm, not pleasant at all. We didn’t try the shower, far too cold to be standing up. The last thing I would mention is the tv, hardly any channels even though it was free view, my son was not impressed. The saving grace has to be the view of the ‘park’ in front of the house. It’s the reason we booked, nowhere better to take the dog or so we thought. Big signs up saying do not exercise your dog on the playing field. It’s a kids football field and not a park. Overall I would not recommend this property, we left earlier to get a hot bath and quiet nights sleep!!
- Samantha, April 2022Jarad “Great location just off the high street yet lovely and quiet overlooking a playing field.”
Lovely modern kitchen and spacious rooms. Bathroom was always very cold and you will need the log burner if the weather isn’t great. Would be nice if some necessities were provided such as tea, coffee, salt, oil, shower gel etc which we have had at other properties we have stayed at across the uk. Avoid the Chinese nearby as this made us both sick. Adjust the heating off auto when you arrive or it will keep constantly turning off.

Could do with a knife set new toaster needed needs a dryer washing line pegs new sofa which doesn't block of radiator in living room
- Lynette, February 2022Ann “Property in great situation.”
Cosy rooms. We found not very warm first day but our fault didn’t realise we were able to reset heating.Would definitely stay again. Thanks for great property.
- Ann, February 2022Gareth “Great location in Windermere and very convenient for local independant shops, mini supermarkets (Sainsburys and CO-OP) and restaurants.”
Bowness is also nearby and within walking distance. The house is clean and well equipped. The two bedrooms are large (one king-size bed and one double) with plenty of storage. You need to reverse park down the driveway, which can be a little tricky if you are not accustomed to doing this. Other minor negatives for awareness are that the bathroom is located on the ground floor, there are two short flights of narrow stairs to the first floor and the second bedroom has a few steps down. Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend this property as a good base for exploring the Lake District.
- Gareth, October 2021Mary “We had a wonderful time at Gable Lodge after we dealt with the lack of cleanliness.”
The location was great and the place was well enough equipped with basic kitchen utensils and towels. The main issue was the fact that it hadn't been cleaned properly for quite some time, some areas were very dirty and grimy. Sinks, sofas, rugs, windows and some cupboards. It needs a good clear out! And, it really could do with a dishwasher, the last thing you want to do on holiday is to have to wash dishes. It would be a great place to stay if the owner resolved these issues.
- Mary, June 2021Martin “The cottage is in an excellent positio within Windermere.”
Central for all restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs (i.e. a couple of minutes walk) but away from the noise of people and traffic. Cottage is also situated sotyou can miss the traffic through Windermere whether you are going to Ambleside in one direction or Bowness in the other. Cottage is spacious and comfortable and with all the amenities that we require. The mattress in the main bedroom is new (this is written June 2021) but very soft. We found that the person using the shower second had water that went from hot to cold regularly even with just the hot tap on. This cottage is recommended and if we come back to Windermere we would have no hesitation in using it again.
- Martin, June 2021Fiona “Great location, bed lovely and comfortable for a good night's sleep after a day of exploring.”
