“The Willow's living areas were perfect for our group of 10 adults.”
The downstairs space with pool table and large screen TV was huge, so we could spend time as a group together comfortably. Having a toilet and fridge down there were a bonus. The hot tub was also a treat, not massively hot though.
Although the kitchen had enough space for us to sit together to eat, the resources weren't all good. There was chipped crockery, a pair of children's scissors rather than proper kitchen scissors, no tongs, not enough coasters or place mats etc. We always look for accommodation to go away at the same time each year and we cook a huge Christmas dinner on the Saturday of our stay and although we managed, as self catering accommodation, the kitchen could be better equipped. During the last 17 years of using large accommodations, this is possibly the first one that didn't have a welcome hamper with milk and local treats.
We would definitely recommend The Willows for a group of adults but be aware of its faults.
One 'en-suite' can be made do with, but not great, with the shower virtually over the toilet and the shared bathroom really belongs as an en-suite to one of the rooms. As we've holidayed together so often, it was manageable.
We were there at the same time as storm Darragh and two of the rooms, with lakeland slate as walls literally let a hooley blow through and until getting into bed we avoided being in there, especially at the top of the house, as it was so cold. Once in bed it was fine because as with the other rooms, the bed was so comfy.
We needed a change of pillow in one of the rooms and this was provided by the amazing staff at the office, where we collected the keys.
We would recommend interaction with the local staff as they were very accommodating and friendly.
We would definitely return, probably next year, but a little bit of tuning of the smaller details wouldn't go amiss.
