“Coniston Cottage is in a great location, being in such a central place in the Lake District but also as it is surrounded by beautiful countryside and with plenty of walks right on the doorstep.”
There is a footpath from the cottages down to Esthwaite Water and it is also in very easy walking distance of Hilltop (Beatrix Potters home, now owned by the National Trust) and the pub (booking required for meals)! I would thoroughly recommend walking to Wise Een Tarn from the village.
Coniston itself is a clean, ground floor apartment set in a courtyard of other holiday cottages/apartments. Unfortunately the noise from the upstairs apartment did somewhat spoil our stay. There really isn't much sound proofing between the two floors and the floor itself creaks, loudly, whenever anyone walks over it. This was unbearable at 6am in the morning. I feel that a bit of time/money spent on the upstairs apartment, even to just secure the floorboards, would make a big difference.
