Elm Cottage

This is the fifth time we have stayed here and the cottage is lovely.

We have booked it again for next year

Lovely cottage in a great location to explore the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales ,quiet clean enclosure garden for our Dog, lovely friendly owners who make you very welcome , Highly recommended

We had an enjoyable stay at Elm cottage.

Judith & Fred were really friendly and helpful. It was a good location for touring the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.

Very welcoming hosts. Located in a quiet lane. Secure garden for the dog. Lovely conservatory that has the sun most of the day.

The cottage is beautiful and charming and has everything in terms of equipment that one might need.

The views from the windows are stunning and the hosts are very friendly. It is set in beautiful countryside and is within easy reach of towns and lovely walks. We are a family with 2 children and a dog and loved our stay.

Our 7th visit at Elm Cottage, well I think that says it all.

Great place to stay, very comfy beds, very well stocked with every thing you need for a complete cottage and very nice surroundings. The wildlife was amazing and so were the cows!! Will stay here again, can't wait for our next visit!

Lovely cottage with friendly owners.

Well stocked and very comfy bed. Well situated just off main road to everywhere. Loved the froggy bathroom tiles! Nice garden room to watch the many birds.

A very comfortable cottage in a quiet rural hamlet.

Within easy reach of Appleby, Kirkby Stephen and Penrith for grocery shopping. Not too far from the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District for day trips. Ideal location for walking the fells and short drive to Appleby golf club. Remember to take a supply of bird food and watch the wildlife from the sunny conservatory. Would go back anytime we take a break in Cumbria.

Fantastic holiday base for visiting places around the North West.

Lovely cottage and owners.

So quiet and peaceful, yet close to places of interest. Lovely conservatory with small secure garden for our dog. The cottage has everything you would need for your holiday. 2 large comfortable bedrooms. Bringing your dog with you. There is a nice morning dog walk, from leaving the cottage turn left, walk past the few cottages and up the grass public footpath to fields. I recommend this cottage.

This is our 4th consecutive stay and we’ve already booked for next year.

I think that says it all. The owners are lovely and friendly. The cottage is clean, quiet and has absolutely everything you need.

Such a relaxing holiday, great hosts.

Some superb walks short distance by car, pity overgrown grass on walk near cottage . Cottage had everything we needed and garden for dog to explore and meet his little friend next door. Good nights rest meant we could get up early and visit nearby towns. This was a clean cottage, well presented and in an idyllic location. Neighbours friendly and chatty couldn't have asked for more.

What a wonderful stay we had at Elm Cottage!

We are a family of four and it was perfect for our stay. The cottage itself was so lovely and cosy and extremely well equipped with some lovely extras - so thoughtful. It was brilliant to have a log burner in the evenings to cosy up to! We have just had a wonderful weeks stay there and it is ideal for good access to the beautiful lakes and surroundings. This was a lovely place to stay.

It was quiet and peaceful, and the house was warm and cosy. The front room had a log-burning stove. I would stay here again.

Ideally situated for the Lake District and Northern Pennines.

Cottage was warm, comfortable and cozy, with everything needed for self catering. Towns and quant villages nearby for meals out. Very dog friendly, with small enclosed garden. Plenty of dog walks from your doorstop. Hosts were welcoming and friendly. Highly recommended and didn’t want to leave.

The cottage was a very nice place in a good remote area,we spent a week there we had a fantastic time there!

Everything that we needed was there and the owners were really kind and helpful.We 100% reccomend this cottage for anybody else coming to lake district and we will definitely come back some day. Polish family.

The position of Elm cottage in the landscape is very good for it is a dead-end street so there is no traffic, only birds singing in the morning and an occasionally tractor.

Furthermore Elm cottage is placed exactly between the major tourist area's (Lakes/Pennines/Dales/Bowland) so you have a lot of choice to make daytrips. We loved to sit in the little conservortary after our daytrip, even on a cool day you can sit outside.

A good value for money well equipped cottage situated in a well positioned hamlet.

Our hosts were very helpful in enabling us to get the best of the local walks and nearby towns and villages etc. This is a very comfortable cottage with a useful enclosed rear garden which our dog thoroughly enjoyed. Would recommend this cottage for anyone wanting to walk the Cumbrian fells and who likes a degree of comfort when they return back to base. In sum, an excellent cottage with kind hosts and one which we would wish to return again to in the near future.

Wonderful cottage, everything you could wish for and the rest!

Absolutely a gem of a cottage. Stayed for the last three years and booked for next year too. We love the scenery, the countryside, the rabbits and the cows; they are so inquisitive. The cottage is central to where we want to visit. The owners are welcoming and if anything isn't right I am sure they will put it right. Just wish we had found this ten or so years ago!!!!

Lovely place to stay really homely and comfy.

Had everything you would need and more. We loved everything about the cottage and would stay again. Owners were lovely and left clear instructions on how to use the facilities. The bed was very comfy and there was plenty of leaflets about what to do in the area. Cottage is in a good place to travel round the lakes as close to the main road to get you anywhere without it being to close to hear the traffic noise. Only sounds we heard was the birds which was lovely

Cottage was idyllic!

Middle of nowhere, away from busy the ads, just bliss. Woodfire was provided and lasted 6/7 days, a sweet welcome treat and a drop in on leaving day by the owners. Great communication, we will be back!

Perfect for having a dog the garden is very secure. Owners are lovely. Very cosy. Will be staying again.

Our hosts were very welcoming and made sure our stay was perfect. Cottage was cosy and comfortable with everything we required for our stay. Loved being on the farm and the seclusion it offered as opposed to staying in town. We would recommend highly and definitely stay again if the opportunity arose.

We had a lovely week - the owners have really thought of everything.

We especially appreciated the table top freezer as we raw feed our dog. Owners live next door and really go the extra mile but we never once felt bothered by them. I simply can’t think of anything negative to say at all.

Elm Cottage was very comfortable and cosy and nice to have a sofa each.

Kitchen had everything we wanted. Appreciated the bottle of wine and cake. The garden at the back was very nice. The conservatory was very peaceful to sit and relax. The beds were very comfy. It was lovely to look out onto fields with cows. Very close to A66 but we didnt notice much noise. Would love to return.

The cottage is so beautiful.

You couldn't say it is small because the rooms are spacious. Everything we needed was there, it was so peaceful living in the countryside. If i win the lottery i want to buy that cottage.

We enjoyed a lovely family break with plenty of good countryside walks straight from the front door as well as easy access to Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District

Clean and tidy cottage with a cool living area which was appreciated during the heat. Option of conservatory and enclosed garden was important to us and were the prime reasons for booking this cottage. Plenty hot water and lovely soft towels. Appreciated the bookcase as an avid reader!!

Judith and Fred were very welcoming. They were there in case of any queries, but not intrusive. Minnie the border collie was very welcoming to. Cottage was spotless, very cosy and well equipped. A real home from home. It was ideally situated to explore the surrounding area, even got to Gretna. Would highly recommend a stay here. Pauline Lancashire

Overall comfortable and a nice cottage in a good location for exploring the lakes, dales and pennines, however the heating tends to sporadically knock loudly waking you up early which adjusting the living room radiator thermostatic valve quietens temporarily, so we just turned that radiator off unless needed but couldn't have done this in winter.

Appreciated the flowers and bottle of Pinot!

We had a wonderful week at Elm cottage.

The owner gave us a warm welcome and was friendly throughout the week without being intrusive. The cottage had everything we needed and more (games, books, DVDs, bird feed, plenty of logs for wood burner, plenty of towels, blankets and pillows and a well stocked kitchen and cleaning supplies). The location was great as it was peaceful but there was easy access to the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines thanks the the A66. There are plenty of leaflets in the cottage with suggestions of days out. The welcome bottle of wine and fresh flowers were a lovely touch. The enclosed garden was fantastic for our dog. Thank you for a lovely stay, we would highly recommend this cottage.

Fabulous cottage, very gentle stairs which were perfect for our 3 yr old Grandson.

Outdoor space just enough, and a sun trap. Plenty of tractors passing by at the front and cows in the field at the front. Entertaining for the little ones. Would definitely go back again. Owners live next door, but aren’t intrusive at all.

Everything you needed for a great stay. Lovely enclosed garden for the dog. Lots of walks from the doorstep. Handy for the Lakes and Hawes. The owners were lovely always asked if we needed anything. A great week away, was sad to leave.

When we arrived at the cottage we found it had everything from games, cushions .

We found the print out a little confusing . It was optional for us to take bedding which we decided to do, Things were all provided for our every need .

The cottage was a perfect base for our walking holiday.

The cottage was well equipped, supremely clean and we wanted for nothing. We arrived on a cool day, but in entering the cottage had a lovely warm welcome. Beds were made up and there were plenty of towels. Judith and Fred introduced themselves over the garden gate due to social distancing and although we saw them on several occasions, they were not intrusive. Would love to visit this place again. The cottage is quiet with lovely views from the front of the property and has a lovely little conservatory, there was plenty of wildlife to see as, well as cows and sheep. Can’t fault the write up about this property.

Lovely comfortable cottage in a great location

Elm Cottage is a lovely cosy comfortable property, fully equipped with everything you need.

The location is superb for visiting the Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales, The owners are lovely friendly people, and more than helpful, Kirkby Stephen is a few miles down the road and has many unique shops as well as pubs and tea rooms.

We had a really relaxing holiday at Elm cottage.

The owners Fred and Judith are lovely people and very helpful. Our little Border Collie can be nervous but she settled really well. We enjoyed walks from the door and trips out to various places including watching a steam train go over the Ribbleshead Viaduct and a great walk in a hidden Nature Reserve. The cottage is really comfortable and has everything you need for the week. The Co -op at Kirkby Stephen is recommended for a food shop.

Had a lovely time in the cottage the owners were fantastic very welcoming and helpful.

Our daughter loved the dog and enjoyed the garden. Would definitely recommend staying here was a great base for the week and we didn’t want to leave. All the comforts of your own home.

This is a lovely little cottage with everything on hand to meet your needs.

Although it snowed rather heavily at the beginning of our week we were lovely and cosy and enjoyed the wood burning stove. The cottage is perfectly situated for visiting the Lake District, the Scottish Borders and the Yorkshire Dales (we did all three). The small garden is very secure for visiting dogs and the conservatory is a real suntrap. We really enjoyed our stay at Elm Cottage and will definitely return.

Getting away from the day to day hustle of daily life, The cottage was as it stated on the web site, The owners contacted us re-guarding key collection end even left us a nice present in the fridge, which was nice.

Overall a very nice clean and well equipped cottage.

Lovely holiday.

We got blocked in by the snow as it was a few foot high and snow drifts were huge. Couldn't get out in the car for 3 days. The cottage is a little out of the way, no pub or shop in walking distance and we needed essentials from the shop. Also, the double mattress very hard so I'd recommend taking a mattress topper. Shower is amazing and we were warm and cosy each day. Overall it was a lovely holiday and got to use our snow sledges so very happy!

Elm Cottage afforded every comfort and we were made very welcome.

A great base to explore the Dales, Lakes and County Durham, stunning countryside. Local people very friendly.

Cosy well equipped cottage.

The cottage exceeded expectations, there were many little extra's that made life easier.

The only reason we wold not go back there is we like to try out new venues and areas. Judith and Fred were very accommodating and friendly.
