“Very nice but not quite as amazing as we hoped for the cost.”

The house has been built to a high standard and the views over the lake to the hills are stunning. The garden is a lovely space and although it wasn’t the weather to enjoy it, the dog very much enjoyed having a private space (and it’s pretty secure for a big dog!) The house has been built to a high standard and the views over the lake to the hills are stunning. The garden is a lovely space and although it wasn’t the weather to enjoy it, the dog very much enjoyed having a private space (and it’s pretty secure for a big dog!) The kitchen was adequately equipped and the lounge area was perfect for the family relaxing in the evening. The children also loved having their own TVs to watch in the morning as a treat. The roll top bath in the bedroom was also a great attraction. Our experience was probably soured a little by our arrival, being greeted by large number of dog mess bags wasn’t a good start, swiftly followed by the fact the house was cold, the fireplace hadn’t been cleaned and there was no starter pack for the fire as advertised. Not ideal for a sub zero February night! Once the house was up to temperature the next day it was nice and cosy and actually the fireplace was almost too much! Need to knows: The house was well equipped and most of the essentials were included but expect bring extra things like salt, tinfoil and toilet roll. There is a huge American fridge freezer downstairs which is great for a family. The internet was fine for checking emails but at 2mb/s don’t plan on streaming or working (but that’s not why you holiday in the lakes anyway!) The water pressure is negligible as expected in the lakes so be aware that although the bathrooms are very nice, you won’t be having a power shower! The patio doors upstairs are INCREDIBLY heavy, I was the only one able to open them so be aware of this! The property is overlooked by the neighbours and the footpath, however there are blinds on the two edges. It’s a shame the blinds were not fitted to the end windows to allow total privacy, however the two ends are not overlooked to any great degree. The driveway has plenty of space for a few cars but the lead up is incredibly steep, we were thankful for the 4x4 in the icy conditions.

Bowness is a contemporary Lake District village on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere, England's largest lake and one of the most scenic destinations in the UK for a romantic break.

The village is alive with cafes and restaurants, as well as plenty of choice for a special evening out.

There are handy groceries, supermarkets and sophisticated shops for leisurely browsing.

There is a cinema, a theatre and even a lakeshore nightclub to guarantee you a lively night out if you want one! Stunning Lake Windermere offers all sorts of activities.

You'll enjoy taking a sunset wander on the lakeshore or hiring a rowing boat for a bit of fun.

Steamers run from Bowness Pier all year round, taking scenic cruises to Lakeside and Ambleside.

A great way to explore without the car.

You can also take a car ferry from Bowness to the west shore of Lake Windermere, where Beatrix Potter's magical countryside and the honeypot village of Hawkshead are waiting to be explored. Walkers will love exploring the paths and fells around Lake Windermere.

For example, Gummers How is a short steep route to a viewpoint high above the Lake (well worth the effort!) and the Mason's Arms at Strawberry Bank, Bowland Bridge, is the ideal pub to visit for refuelling afterwards.

If you are a serious hiker then many of the most spectacular and challenging mountains of the Lake District are within easy driving distance.
