“We returned again to Goody Raise for the fourth time and whilst the weather last week was dreadful we did enjoy our week in Grasmere.”

Unfortunately we had one or two maintenance issues. The main feature lounge fire was not working and could not be fixed. The front door became so hard to open we had to use one of the patio doors which was fine. A bathroom door would not lock either. I guess most issues were as a result of recent decoration improvements and easily sorted. I did find Sykes not that great as they failed to get back on the fire problem. That would never have been the case when it was Lakelovers. We all missed the ...

“The front door seemed to have a problem with the lock as wouldn’t open.”

Used the rear during our whole stay, but didn’t hinder our holiday. Fantastic house and perfect location to explore and enjoy the lakes. Weather was not the greatest, but having the advantage of staying in a house like this allows you to enjoy time with the family and enjoy the views. Again nothing short of fantastic.

“Another lovely stay at Goody Raise.”

This holiday home is in an excellent location with great walks on the doorstep and bus connections a five minute walk away. Our cars never moved all week. The views from Goody Raise are uplifting whatever the weather. Goody Raise is great for family groups as there is plenty of space for getting together or getting some 'me' time

“Goody Raise is a gem, gardens were a haven for wildlife and the visiting Tawny Owl a welcome bonus each morning.”

Only suggestions to improve would be to review the access to the hot tub, it's not easy to get in and out and a handrail of some sort would be a much welcome addition. Maybe consider access to a basic tv package and provide better information on tv usage too, as it wasn't that straight forward to use. Those two tiny matters aside, it's a cracking place in a beautiful setting and we'll definately be back at some point.

“We have stayed several times at Goody Raise and obviously really appreciate the high quality and comfort of the house.”

Whilst most places were clean, I have to take issue with some of the bedrooms especially the twin. All surfaced were very dusty and had not been cleaned. Evidence of hair on the floor again suggested not enough floor cleaning. Kitchen bins were filthy albeit with bin bags in, but once removed highlighted the issue. Some kitchen cupboards had crumbs in and felt skimped. This is a very large house for one person to clean and realistically needs two cleaners not one. I don’t think it’s the cleaners fault but you should send two people out given the time it would take to do a more thorough job. The overall comfort is great but as we have mentioned before, style of substance appears to apply to the sofas that leave you fidgeting for comfort. I’m sure we will be using it again.

“The cottage is beautiful in a stunning location.”

The only negatives were the slippery path and steps up to the cottage and the main fire not working.I appreciate the steps probably get slippery quickly but it would have been helpful if they had been cleaned before we arrived. Although we were warm, it would have been great to turn the fire on in the evenings. That said, we had a fabulous stay and would definitely recommend the cottage to others.

“We had the most fantastic stay in this beautiful property.”

We really appreciated all the quality of everything, even down to the coffee cups! I so enjoyed my quiet moments reading in the beautiful garden room too. I would LOVE to know where the chairs in the garden room were purchased? Enjoyed the Sonos too. One thing to mention that I appreciate you wouldn't know about unless someone mentioned it. The smoke/fire alarms went off several times, in all rooms simultaneously, very randomly & on different days. Once was in the middle of the night, twice. Each time was only for a few seconds but it did disturb us. Maybe a loose connection somewhere? We had a really wonderful stay and will treasure the memories and photographs of that amazing garden view. Thankyou.

“We have visited the Lake District for many years and Goody Raise is 'by far' the best property we have rented and its in our favourite location Grasmere!”

It's ideally placed for great walks and the bus route for getting around the Lakes, our car never left the cottage, which is what we wanted. We did not have a great week weather wise, but that's the lakes. The hot tub in the rain is a great experience. Just one comment, it would be a good idea to get a 'non slip' surface on the last step on the stairs. I would recommend Goody Raise if you want as place to relax and enjoy what the lakes has to offer no matter what the weather.

“2 things that disappointed Hot tub.”

Had to all get in it together as jets only worked once and not for long. Once had worked then had to wait hours for another 10-15 min session. No good for couples to get in separately Problem with utility (sewerage) that meant we had tractors and pumping station next to the house for 3 days 24/7. Constant noise and vibration The house itself is amazing

Thank for your feedback. We have spoken to our hot tub maintenance man. He tells us that the jets appear to be in full working order. They will stay on for 15 minutes or so, but if you press the jets button at that point, they should restart. We have asked him to check them again on his next maintenance visit. As regards the sewerage problem - we have spoken to United Utilities. The issue was not specific to Goody Raise - rather there was a general problem in the area due to excessive rainfall causing drains to overflow. Clearly this is not something we could have any control over and we can only hope that situation will not recur. We do hope that, in all other respects, you had a pleasant stay at Goody Raise. “We have stayed in 12 Lakelovers Properties during the last 20 years and this has been by far the most comfortable and well equipped.”

We did have problems with the TV Technology and it would have been helpful to have had some detailed instructions.The gas fire in the lounge area was difficult to ignite; help was sent and the maintenance person found a way of lighting it, which differed from the instructions that were left. “We had a fabulous stay just before Christmas.”

We arrived to a blanket of snow across the Lake District and Grasmere looked picture perfect. The cottage is an excellent location in the village with easy walking distance to shops, pubs and restaurants. It has easy access to many walking routes with lots of Wainwrights to bag right off the doorstep. The cottage itself is magnificent and had everything we needed during our stay; it offers real luxury, space and comfort. We could not wait to get in the hot tub after our winter walks on the high fells!

“Goody Raise is a fabulous property in wonderful location.”

It has a high quality feel with many expensive furnishings. This is our second stay and found this time the house was not as clean as it should be with cobwebs behind the tv and some corners. This is more down to your cleaners father than lakeloverrs who were excellent. We also found the sofas pretty uncomfortable which is a shame. The hot tub was great but again the cleaning contractors had not put it on for our arrival meaning we lost a days use of it. All in all a great place to stay.

“The best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in.”

So beautifully presented with top quality fixtures and fittings, super comfy beds and plenty of space. Everything we needed was there and the hot tub was fantastic with the maintenance of it done with no disruption to our holiday. Having so many bathrooms was brilliant for before and after hot tub use. Beautiful garden, well kept by the very friendly gardeners we bumped into during our stay. “Fantastic modern cottage in a wonderful location, clean comfortable well equipped and very quiet - fantastic.”

Minor points to make it an even better stay - don't top up the hot tub mid week, do it Saturday on hand over as we lost use of it for a full day. Check the batteries in remote controls - the DVD player didn't have any. More than 1 tea towel would help and soap in the bathrooms would be helpful - or state these items are not provided in advance. A basket of wood for the stove would also have been welcome. We struggles to get 4 showers out of the hot water system. Minor points that are worth considering, none of which would stop us from returning.

“A very nice house, beautifully furnished.”

Good position for some of the best walks in the Lake District. Our only criticism is that for such an expensive booking, there was penny pinching which took the edge of the enjoyment, eg no logs provided (normally cottages are provided with at least one basket of logs), no spare toilet rolls (in fact in one bathroom there was only the smallest amount), hardly any cleaning products (no washing liquid, fabric softener, toilet cleaner, hand soap, etc). Also thought it was unhygienic to not strip and wash the bedding mattress and pillow covers as well as the sheets and pillowcases. We enjoyed our stay but it seems such a shame to spoil it for the sake of spending a small amount on some real basic items.

Perfectly situated for wandering into Grasmere or further afield. The technology at the house all worked perfectly (in spite of storm Arwen!) the beds were very comfortable and there was excellent water pressure in the showers.... combined with the amazing views - what more could you want? (Sadly - our experience since Sykes have taken over was less than ideal and we were delayed being able to get in to the property due to having not been given the correct key safe code - which no one seemed eager to apologise about!)

“We had a fabulous time at Goody Raise in November.”

Given the time of the year we spent a good amount of time in the house and it has views at every window of the surroundings and the garden has space to wander in with different nooks and crannies. There is plenty of space downstairs and it is well equipped in the kitchen. For this time of year you need the log burner going and it would have been nice to have an initial supply of wood for arrival although it's not far to walk to the village to pick some up; the basket of goodies in the kitchen was very welcoming with wine, biscuits, tea and milk. You need to bring your own hand/shower washes for the bathrooms as these were in short supply/not supplied. The only negative is that we were a group of 3 so we were fine but a group of 6 could not use the hot tub all together and the seating in the lounge area is a little hard (this is being really critical as it was fine) and insufficient for 6 but there is another room with chairs in it. The dining room area seats 6 very comfortably. The bedrooms were really comfortable, roomy with lovely en-suites/bathrooms and there is plenty of room to come in wet and de-robe before going into the lounge and easy to dry wet boots/clothes. It is a perfect place for staying in the heart of the Lakes with walks right from the door, including to a variety of pubs and restaurants!

“The cleaning unfortunately was not as good as normal.”

I've stayed in a number of Lakelovers properties and never had a problem. Here we found food still in the fridge, coffee capsules in the machine, crumbs on the work tops and also inside the carousel. There were also a lot of dead fruit flies along the worktop and window sill in the kitchen and the doors to the outside dining area were unlocked which we only picked up the next day. In view of COVID, I would have hoped for a better cleaning experience, especially as you have to vacate so early and cannot arrive now until late afternoon.

This outstanding luxurious detached residence, occupies a sublime setting in an acre of glorious gardens, complete with slate terrace, watched over by the famous "Lion and Lamb" summit.

Its situation on the lane to Easedale Tarn is a perfect starting off point for many local walks or for the short stroll into the heart of Grasmere village.

There are breathtaking views in every direction from Goody Raise - what a soothing way to unwind and soak up the sheer luxury that this wonderful place offers.

It provides a peaceful retreat whether you wish to walk the Fairfield Horseshoe, photograph the spectacular waterfalls or simply escape from the crowds. All the magic of a secluded rural Lake District holiday cottage, at the very heart of the Lakes and only a short walk away from the centre of Grasmere.

Slightly north of Ambleside, Grasmere is a picturesque village next to a small lake of the same name.

The spectacular area is hugely popular with walkers for its backdrop of tempting fells, with routes such as Helm Crag and Loughrigg Fell promising rewarding views over the lake below.

Grasmere is also famous for its connections with the poet William Wordsworth, who lived in the village at Dove Cottage (now open to the public as part of the Wordsworth Museum) and declared Grasmere as 'one of the loveliest spots that man has ever found'.

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
