“We returned again to Goody Raise for the fourth time and whilst the weather last week was dreadful we did enjoy our week in Grasmere.”

Unfortunately we had one or two maintenance issues. The main feature lounge fire was not working and could not be fixed. The front door became so hard to open we had to use one of the patio doors which was fine. A bathroom door would not lock either. I guess most issues were as a result of recent decoration improvements and easily sorted. I did find Sykes not that great as they failed to get back on the fire problem. That would never have been the case when it was Lakelovers. We all missed the ...

I guess most issues were as a result of recent decoration improvements and easily sorted. I did find Sykes not that great as they failed to get back on the fire problem. That would never have been the case when it was Lakelovers. We all missed the hot tub as it was a really nice place to be even in poor weather. I think next year we may go for a change but still a lovely house.

All the magic of a secluded rural Lake District holiday cottage, at the very heart of the Lakes and only a short walk away from the centre of Grasmere.

Slightly north of Ambleside, Grasmere is a picturesque village next to a small lake of the same name.

The spectacular area is hugely popular with walkers for its backdrop of tempting fells, with routes such as Helm Crag and Loughrigg Fell promising rewarding views over the lake below.

Grasmere is also famous for its connections with the poet William Wordsworth, who lived in the village at Dove Cottage (now open to the public as part of the Wordsworth Museum) and declared Grasmere as 'one of the loveliest spots that man has ever found'.

The inspirational nature of the place is further proven by a number of watercolour and artists' galleries in the village, including the Heaton Cooper Studio displaying the work of the talented Cooper family. In the village, you'll find everything you need during your self-catering holiday in the Lake District.

From supermarket to market square, pretty tea rooms to restaurants such as the Good Food Guide-listed Jumble Room, and a number of excellent country pubs both in the village and in the surrounding area.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
